“A casual Japanese restaurant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2012

I had the ramen and my husband had chicken teriyaki. We didn't really love the taste of our food because it was different from what we had tried at other Japanese noodle restaurants. The noodle tasted different, not bad, but the soup tasted really good. Chaya is a good place to escape from those expensive steakhouse on the street.

“Great Japanese ramen at a fair price”

Want to relieve your hungered stomach with some hot yummy miso soup with freshly cooked noodles? This restaurant might be the right place in Banff.

This tiny little place on Banff Ave does various noodle bowls - all of them really well - always friendly and efficient

“Small location, yummy food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2012

Dropped into Chaya for a late lunch based on online reviews. It's a tiny, and I mean tiny, little place on Banff Ave. next to MacDonald's that serves Japanese Cuisine.

I had the Pork Ramen and my husband had the Tan-tan Ramen. Both dishes were extremely flavourful, we were very pleased! It was such a refreshing meal change.

Don't be fooled by the restaurant it's self when you first walk in, it is small and a bit cramped but where it lacks in decor, it makes up for big taste, promptness, and friendly staff.

The only negative? Even though a lot of the reviews mentioned the cheap price, we actually thought it was a little bit expensive for a couple bowls of ramen and two drinks. But all in all, we were full and very pleased.

We will come back.

“Cozy little spot for a quick, fresh meal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2012

Chaya is a small Asian cafe tucked in next to the McD's on Banff Avenue that serves a variety of Japanese-inspired soups, rice bowls, some sushi, and a few Thai-style bowls as well. It's low key but tasty, with friendly staff and good people watching from the seats in the window. Only gripe is that it is maybe a dollar or two more than you'd expect for the type/quality/portion size, but it is on the main drag of a major tourist town so I guess that's to be expected.
