The waterfalls were nice, but it was very touristy and there too many crowds. If you are looking for a secluded nature hike - you won't find it here. This is more of a sight seeing destination rather than a true hike.

The paint pots are so worth taking a gander. It is amazing to see tiny bubble rise from the bottom of the paint pot pools. The acid water carves the limestone of the Johnston Canyon walls. Nature truly is amazing!

The chance to walk the catwalks inside this canyon and view the twisting walls up close make this hike very enjoyable and interesting. If you can, definitely see the upper falls along with the lower falls. Also, visit early to avoid the crowds.

Lovely trip up on Sept 5th. Sunny and 26 above. About 10 miles past Banff townsite is the turn off for Johnson Canyon, well marked. 12 more miles and a beautiful walk. It's 1/2 mile to Lower Falls, 1 1/2 miles to Upper Falls and then a further 2 mile climb on a hillier path to the Ink Pots. Beautiful all the way. Climbed to Upper Falls in 1986 and 1998, and finally made the Ink Pots in 2013. Take water and snacks to Ink Pots. Took us 3 hrs. to reach Ink Pots and 2 hrs. back down, stopping for short rests and photos. Looking forward to walk again some day.

Was a wonderful attraction, allow at least 1hr and a half to slowly enjoy everything. The walk to the canyon was nice and lots of great photos to be taken.

This was a beautiful hike, but not my favorite. The canyon is absolutely beautiful and so are the falls. It's an excellent hike if you're looking for something not to difficult. I guess it just felt a bit less like a hike than some of the others since it was fairly crowded and a lot of the path was paved.
