We took the Banff Discovery Tour and went ice walking. It was amazing! Nice hike, long but well worth it. Amazing scenery, just incredible to be surrounded by such beauty!

very popular place - try to get there before 9:00 (we actually arrived at 9:00 with two tour buses)... we spent two hours going up to the Upper Falls and back. Very lovely - well maintained yet narrow path... much less people from the lower falls to upper falls. I hear the Ink Pots are also lovely but much further than we had time for.

Lovely, easy, gentle climb to lower and upper falls over some interesting catwalks and through the woods along the river. A must-see. Perhaps avoid summer weekends if possible. We arrived at 3:00 on a Saturday and it was really too crowded on the trail up and back from the lower falls. The route to the upper falls which goes further was fine. This kind of trail done often would be perfect to keep one in healthy condition!

We went there in July 2013. It's a short drive from Banff on the Bow Valley Parkway. We were advised to go in the afternoon as the parking lot can get very full in the morning. We went around 3:30 PM and it was easy to find parking. My mom and aunt are over 70 so we only walked to the Lower Falls which took us 40 mins to go there and 35 mins to come back, it is an easy walk even for slow walkers. The view is beautiful and the waterfalls are amazing, I would have loved to go further up to the upper falls, it seemed pretty easy and I remember doing it fifteen years ago.

Johnston Canyon is a nice and easy walk both to the lower and upper falls. The Canyon is amazing and the trail is just above the water. It is cool and nice even on a hot summer day and the kids had great time. The trail to the Ink pots is not as easy, it is not paved and the elevation gain is much bigger (the total trail is 5.9km one way and elevation gain 330m). The young kids ages 5-7 had a bit of a crisis mid way, but seeing the 5 little springs each in a unique color was amazing!! We stops for a longer rest by the river and the way back was easy. The whole trail took us about 5 hours.
