The gondola ride up Sulphur Mountain is expensive - we paid about $35 return each for the 8 minute ride, but it was well worth it for the views from the top. You can view from the main deck, go up to the observation deck, or even better follow the wooden walkway down and then up the next peak. We were plagued by flies on our visit so liberal coverage of repellent is advised. The café in the main building is poor - tables were dirty, coffee was poor quality and service was limited. Our judgement was that the Swiss do this sort of thing much better. But the views make it all worthwhile!

Get in early as apparently its an absolute zoo in the afternoon! Definitely do the ten minute walk to the other peak. Its well worth the view.

If you're with a tour group, make sure you leave the top 15 minutes before you have to meet up because the line gets ridiculous!

The site was well maintained, you can see everything and have an amazing view from all angles. This is not necessarily difficult but there are a lot of stairs. That being said there are also many resting spots. Take the time you need to make it up, it's worth it. Beware of the 'cute' little squirrel/chipmunk... they tend to bite and are always hanging around.

We have just spent 4 days in Banff and the view from the top of this mountain is probably our favourite memory. It us almost unreal - stunning 360 degree view of this area of the Rockies. The gondola is expensive but worth it if you don't fancy the hike up. You can get a one way ticket down but not up! We were staying very close to the gondola so got there at 8.00 in the morning when it opens. There were already 2 coach parties ahead of us! By the time we got back to the bottom the car park was heaving and people were having to park a long way down the road. Get there early! The cars hold 4 people. I'm not great with heights and hate fairground rides but it wasn't too scary at all. The scenery is breathtaking so not much time to worry! The ride takes 8 mins. At the top there us a great observation platform and you can also rake the boardwalk up to Sansom Peak. An easy walk and fascinating history. The walk takes about 40 minutes round trip if you stop along the way to read all the info. Having made an early start we decided to have a second breakfast at the cafe at the top. It was really quiet (about 10 am) and the food and coffee were great. It is a busy tourist spot and there are millions of photos being taken but it's worth putting up with that for the views.
