We weren't sure about taking the hike up. We asked some people in the parking lot and they said it only took 1 and a half hours. So off we went. First item, bring a lot of mosquito repellent. They seem to enjoy the taste of Americans. We did pretty well the first 1/2 and then slowed down a lot. The stops were tough becuase the mosquitos really liked us. My guess is we took 2 hours and actually finished at the same time as our advisors in the parking lot.
This is not a casual strole. It says 5.5 kl or about 3 mi and steep. Would I recommend it, yes. There are some great views on the way up and fantastic views at the top. Like some others we took the Gondola down. I am in my late 50's so I had nothing to prove by hiking back down. They do have food at the top and a beer selection. Have one as you will have earned it.
And don't wear tennis shoes or sandles. Bring good walking shoes or hiking shoes.

At the bottom of the hill is a hot springs. Don't waste your time or money. More like a big swimming pool with warm water. There was definitely no mineral spring water.

we headed up after 6:00 p.m. (saving $5 each per ticket)... hoping to catch sunset but the last trip down is at 9:00 and sunset is closer to 10:00. We had lunch at the cafe at the top as the Panoramic restaurant was closed for a private party. Walk up to the top it is worth the 360 degree view. Disappointed for the lack of wildlife which I hear are often seen up there.

On vacation in Banff, we decided to hike up to the top, which took us 3+ hours. Since we live in Texas where it's flat and near sea level, we had to take several breaks along the way. Make sure you bring at least 2 bottles of water per person just in case and wear comfortable shoes. What a beautiful way to exercise and a great feeling of accomplishment. Once we reached the top we loved the gorgeous views and relaxed for a bit taking pictures and talking with other travelers. It was lunchtime, so we ate grilled hotdogs at the round restaurant and was delicious. We decided to take the gondola down which took more like 3+ minutes. It costs the total amount ($34.95 each) if you ride up and down or walk down, however if you walk up and ride down it's half price.

Worth a trip up the gondola to see the whole area and soak up the views of the mountains. No photos would ever do it any justice. You have to really see it yourself.

Sulphur Mountain is situated just outside Banff and overlooks the fabulous Fairmont Hotel. The ride in the gondola is good, but a little claustraphobic if you're that way inclined. Views from the top are brilliant but the best bit is the hot sulphur springs just a short way from the bottom of the gondola. We had a fabulous outdoor swim at a height of 6,000ft, surrounded by snow covered mountains and with the water temperature naturally heated by the hot springs to a constant 30 degrees, superb experience
