Owner description: Scenic highway cutting through breathtakingly beautiful mountain passes.

We stayed in Canmore and took an entire day to see the views on this picuresque highway. Be sure to go on a clear day or you will miss the mountains and glaciers. Also, be sure you have a very good map, because there are virtually no signs or very little warning for many of the best viewpoints. We went to the Icefields center and took the Brewster Tour on the glacier. I would highly recommend doing this, as it adds to the experience. It is about $50 USD per person, kids under a certain age are free, but they will have to sit on your lap. After you go on the glacier, take the short walkway at the base of the parking lot, to see the bottom view of the Columbia Icefield, and an ice cave. We stopped at several viewpoints, one of them was Bridal Veil Falls, and another was Peyto Lake. Peyto lake is beautiful and there is a short hike to a wonderful viewpoint. Try to do this one! The road is great and if you get stuck behind a slow vehicle, don't worry, there are so many straight aways that it is not too difficult to pass. Bring your camera and get ready to take one postcard shot after another!

The drive from Banff to Jasper was awesome. The scenery was beautiful with plenty of photo op stops along the way. This drive was one of the most beautiful. By the time we did this, most of the snow was gone. Two-three weeks earlier would have been more snow on the mountains and perhaps even more scenic. However, limited food and rest stops so plan accordingly.

This drive is known as one of the most scenic in the world. It does not disappoint. We noticed even more this time. We love the way they have Wildlife overpasses. There are many scenic pullovers. It is hard to beat the combination of mountains, icefields, rivers, so many trees and just the beauty of the drive itself.
Have your camera ready, and if you see cars pulled just off the road it is usually an indication that wildlife is just off the road. We got some nice photos of a bear right at the side of the road eating berries, deer and other wildlife. Take time to enjoy the beauty of this special drive at a slower pace.
We understand that the icefields are shrinking. We were told for the Glacier bus ride that if you want to see that attraction, do it within the next decade before it is gone. You can see it and save the expense right from the Visitor center across the street also.

Words cannot adequately describe what an amazing journey awaits you on the Icefields Parkway. Stunning vistas, gorgeous lakes, wonderful hikes...I could go on and on. A trip to the Rockies would not truly be complete without a drive here. We spent half of our stay in Jasper and on the way up we stopped numerous times along the way; be sure to plan accordingly! You could drive along the Parkway many times and still see something new each time.

I would suggest you fill up your tank before getting on it as there is only one gas station on the Parkway which is very busy and more expensive. I also recommend you eat beforehand or pick up some lunch as well if you are going all the way to Jasper.

Great experience to walk on the Icefields and see the fresh running water from the ice caps. Staff were all very friendly and added to a pleasant journey and experience. Worth doing it at least once but it is pretty pricey.
