Review of Sunshine Village

Owner description: Sunshine Village sits high on the Continental Divide in the heart of Banff National Park, and is just minutes from the mountain town of Banff. Three sprawling mountains provide breathtaking sitelines, uninterrupted by any signs of civilization beyond the resort's leasehold. Ski or ride in Alberta and British Columbia in one run. Sunshine Village's seven-month season stretches from early November until late May - the longest non-glacial season in Canada. The Village's altitude of 7,082 feet ensures the snow stays dry. Sunshine can receive up to nine metres (30 feet) of snow in a season, and it stays all year.

“Great Skiing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

Went skiing at Sunshine over the New Years holidays and really enjoyed it. We arrived just after 9am and the parking lot looked packed already! We thought that we would be in a huge lineup for the lifts and gondola ride to the top. Not so!!! They sure can move the people through the lines. Actually got on the gondola within a few minutes of lining up. Went with the family (2 kids ages 11 and 13) and found that the green runs were perfect for the youngest in our family. Did the ski out early in the afternoon (around 1:00) and then rode the gondola up to the top again. Found that the ski out is REALLY busy later in the afternoon and not much fun because you're just dodging people on a narrow run. The ski out is a run you can do from the top of sunshine instead of taking the gondola to your vehicle at the end of the day. The lifts were fast and we didn't really wait at the top at all. The greens are wide and there is a lot of room to move for novice skiers. Some nice challenging blues for beginners and intermediate skiers as well. Lots of picnic tables when it was lunch time and it was never a problem to find a place to eat. Kids loved it and we will come again.

“Worst food/service at an expensive price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights at the village hotel, went out for a nice meal(or so we thought) at the Eagles Nest. Upon ordering, found our Calamari to be anything but well prepared, as far as we could tell it was from a bag and then deep fried, and by the time the poor service got us our meals, it was anything but "FINE DINING". Our entree was ok, nothing great and our service as mentioned was anything but "Fine", as for pricing of this, it was in our mind nothing better than a meal at Denny's at 2am.... Our complete meal was about $200 and we felt that once they have you on the hill, you really have no other options.

We also went for breakfast at the same spot, the buffet was almost empty and anything that was there was cold. We actually went up, put food on our plates and went to eat, once we noticed it was cold, not warm, cold, we told the waitress that we would like to order something. We had to get up to go to the computer to interrupt our waitresses' conversation with a fellow waiter and grabbed our own menus. We then walked back up to order, after we removed our own plates of cold food, and we did enjoy the egg's benedict, it was a very good meal but service was brutal and the buffet was even more brutal.

Overall, we will continue to go to the hill and snowboard/ski and enjoy beers in the lounges but as far as staying here or eating at the resort, we will pass.

“Heavenly experience at Sunshine Village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

We skied Sunshine Village during our Xmas break. The views were absolutely stunning. There were hardly any people on the slopes before Xmas day. Afterwards, it became busy, but the skiers are so scattered across the vast terrain that it never felt crowded. The conditions were excellent and the place has a vast variety of different trails.
