The Santa Rosa is one of our favorite Marriott Haciendas. Located about an hour from Merida, this 10 room boutique hotel will provide you with a once in a lifetime experience. The outstanding customer service and historic restoration is reason enough to spend two to three nights at this wonderful hotel. Here are some additional facts to help you decide to book your stay:

Marriott Platinum Recognition- We were upgraded to a wonderful suite with a large patio and pool steps from our room. We were given a bottle of wine and bowl of fruit as a special welcome gift. We selected the breakfast as our platinum amenity, which consisted of anything on the menu. The breakfast food was outstanding.

Room - Our suite was very large with a separate living room, bedroom and bathroom. There were two back doors that accessed the private patio with two hammocks, table and chairs. There was a beautiful pool steps from the patio. The private backyard area was so peaceful, with views of the hacienda’s famous red stack.

Resort Fee - There was NO resort fee. Yay!

Customer Service- We received some of the best customer service. From the check in to check out, everyone was so attentive and kind. This is a clear indication of great hotel leadership. There was complimentary valet parking and the attendants were always polite and responsive. Maid service was impeccable. The overall service received at this hotel is world class.

Location- The hacienda Santa Rosa was once a grand home of the owners of a sisal plantation. It has been beautifully converted into a luxury hotel. This property is very well maintained and picturesque. Our only complaint is that the property is located in the middle of a very, very poor town. To get to the property you must travel miles on narrow roads with huge potholes and extreme poverty.

Tips- We so enjoyed happy hour each evening at the hotel bar. At 6pm your first drink was free and your second drink was 50% off. Make sure to save an entire day to visit Celestún and the Flamingos. It’s about an hour away and the Flamingos were the highlight of our trip. Have lunch in Celestún and enjoy the beautiful beach too!

Overall, Hacienda Santa Rosa is a beautiful boutique hotel. Everything about it is top notch. We find it almost impossible to find fault. We highly recommend for a once in a lifetime old world experience!

This Hacienda is in every single aspect at least one star better than it‘s sister Hacienda in Ouiamon! Much more familiar, better service, better food, better lighting - just perfect (if you like hotels other than the boring american standard).
I never call people by their name, but in this case there is on guy in the service who really steps out positively: Fidel Noh. He is friendly, quick, precise, flexible and speaks quite good english. This man would fit into any service-team even of the best hotels in the world.

I found this hotel lovely and exotic. The buildings are beautiful, some quite dilapidated, some grand and elegant bursting with gorgeous colors. The rooms (we stayed in #9) are spacious and comfortable, with just the right balance of modern convenience and old world touches. The main pool is nice and there are great sitting areas, with hammocks throughout the property. We used it as a base to explore Uxmal and also visited some of the amazing cenotes in the area and the Loltun caves. There’s not much to do immediately around the hotel, but it’s a good location for day trips in the area.

Why not 5 stars? The restaurant could have been better, especially since it charged NYC prices which are a fortune in this neck of the woods. Also when we were checking out, the hotel misplaced our rental car keys. The lack of inaction on the part of the management made me realize that if any emergencies or anything unusual happens, guests are pretty much on their own. My husband ended up figuring out the keys were erroneously attributed to another room, but management was useless in solving the problem - complete deer in headlights reaction.

That said, I would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would love to also visit the other Starwood haciendas in the region. Just hold on to your car key :)

We had a mid-afternoon arrival in Merida (MID), so we were looking for a stop-off point between Merida and Campeche and Hacienda Santa Rosa (HSR) fit the bill quite nicely. It is a short drive and down a narrow country road not far from Highway 180, but is not had to find. We have now stayed at four hacienda hotels of The Luxury Collection and this was one of our favorites. It is a relatively small hotel, but it has a unique charm and the hospitality was excellent.

As a Starwood Gold member we were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a junior suite, room #10, (Gracias, Carolina!). The suite was huge, almost cavernous with its 18-foot high ceilings. It has a "rustic elegance" with clay tile floors and no wall decor to speak of, but it works. There was a separate living/seating room, a separate bed room, and a separate bathroom with large walk-in shower. Outside was a large covered patio with two hammocks over looking the swimming pool.

As other reviewers have noted, trees have been allowed to grow up around the old buildings, but the grounds are well kept (and the paths are well lit at night). This is not a large hacienda, e.g., like Temozon, but still very charming and peaceful.

I was surprised that some reviewers had faint praise (or worse) for the restaurant. We had the opposite experience and found it quite nice and have nothing but praise for the cuisine and service. We both had sea food dishes that were two of the best meals we had during our trip. Service was personable and attentive, but no intrusive. Meseros Wilbur and Fidel were both top notch, with friendly and charming personalities.

I'm not sure if we will travel to this area again, but I would recommend it to any other fellow traveler without hesitation. Nice unique lodgings, great service and hospitality (every employee smiles and greets you), and great cuisine.

Only one minor comment for The Luxury Collection management; almost every hacienda in your group needs to have their entrance signs repainted. Most date back to when the haciendas first opened and are now faded and peeling.
