How a pub should be but very rarely is. Plenty of good, well kept ales. Also Leffe on tap & Old Rosie Scrumpy which is a rareity and delicious....Shame I was driving!

Has the Steak & Stilton Pie with chips which was lovely and packed with meat topped with crisp, buttery pastry.

Can't believe haven't been in before but will be returning soon for sure....Looking forward to their beer festival in October!!

Oh, very friendly staff and locals indeed too!

We spent the weekend at The Old Poets last weekend, booking out the cottage and several rooms. We were very impressed with all accommodation, they exceeded our expectations. They also catered for the "get together" after the Church service. The food and service was superb. Everyone commentated, we were looked after so well. So much so, we are talking about making it an annual event.

Room Tip: They were all good but my Sister in law recommended "Byron".

Excellent choice of real ales and ciders.Generous servings of good traditional food with a superb cooked breakfast. The staff are some of the best I've encountered anywhere. Our room,Wordsworth, was small and quirky but very well appointed. One small point;the automatic air freshener in the room was a bit too powerful and not really needed!Otherwise a brilliant stay...a delightful establishment!

Old Poets Corner is on our must visit again pub list, this was our fourth visit we always arrange to bring friends along and they always say what a great pub it is, good selection of beers, comfortable bedrooms, and excellent food, all this in the lovely setting of Ashover village. Enjoyed the quiz night and we came third place, hope to improve on that next time.

How pubs should be but often aren't - first rate beer, food and service; an attractively quirky environment; live music, but not deafening; a good room to stay in; a beautiful area, full of good walks. Like whatisname, I will return.

Room Tip: I only stayed in one, so can't say, but it was very good.

We went to The Old Poet's Corner on a Dog Walking break and the welcome we (and the dog) got was very friendly. The food was amazing - must try the Meat and Potato pie along with home made chips!
It is excellently located amongst fantastic walks and beautiful countryside so luckily the long walks made up for all the excellent fare!

We stayed at the cottage attached to the pub...perfect location. The cottage was very spacious and well equipped, plenty of space for us all (4 adults 1 baby and a dog) with beds to spare. Kitchen was large and easy to use, but why you would need to with a fab curry served at the pub and all the lovely ales to try I don't know why.
My only recommendation would be to either get new mattresses or memory foam toppers as the beds were very uncomfortable and that can spoil an otherwise perfect holiday.
Would definitely return but would bring my own mattress topper next time.
Lovely walks and beautiful villages all close by, great cycle ride around Carsington waters, much to see and do.

Thank-you for your comments, just to let you know that we have taken the advice on board and are currently looking into purchasing mattress toppers for the beds in our holiday cottage. We will not be purchasing new mattresses as the mattresses themselves were only purchased recently along with the new beds. Thanks again for your comments. Michelle Rafter.
