We went to the White Lion on a recommendation after a long Sunday hike. We enjoyed a drink outside in the sun and then went inside for our dinner. We both had the onion soup to start which was delicious followed by the roast beef dinner which tasted good but we were both disappointed and surprised that we only got one slice of beef. For £12.25 for the main course we felt that it was overpriced.

We visited for lunch after being recommended by friends. We had 2 course lunch for £10. I had goats cheese tart which was very nice, followed by haddock and chips. Great value and all homemade food. Friendly service. Big carpark at rear.
So nice I'm going again tomorrow!

We read the very good reviews and thought it worth a try.
Two of us had the fish pie which had far too much mashed potato on it and the fish was rather tasteless. The portions were very large. One pie would have fed two people.
The staff were charming and deserved their tip.

We had two meals at this welcoming country pub during a week's stay in the Dales. The food was freshly cooked and of good quality, well presented and reasonably priced. If we lived in the Dales, The White Lion is a pub that we would visit regularly. We recommend it unreservedly to other travellers.

After a long strenuous walk in the mud and snow, the open fire, lovely decor and friendly staff made for a very pleasant evening. The food was perfectly pleasant, possibly slightly highly priced for what it was but very tasty.
