Dropped in for lunch one saturday in the snow, fire roaring away and lucky to get a table in the bar. Menu was great as was the service dispite how busy it was. Food was faultless, will remember it for a long time.

Well, I have never been more impressed with any accommodation / hotel / B&B / pub / restaurant in all my travels. Admittedly we did stay on the first night of our honeymoon, so we were a little starry eyed, but this place was 110% perfect and if I could move in permanently I would. It's ideal for a honeymoon and highly recommended - we wished we'd stayed longer.

We dropped in on our way to the Lake District (where incidentially we were utterly disappointed with Craig Manor Hotel in Windermere). We arrived in the middle of a huge thunderstorm so rather than step over the threshold looking elegant we looked rather like drowned rats with a lot of wet luggage! The welcome couldn't have been nicer and we were soon comfortable in our room. The room we had was, indeed, pretty small, but it was perfectly formed. A lot of thought had gone into the decor and furniture and it was tastefully decorated with contemporary pieces, in vibrant colours, among pale cream walls and carpet. It felt really luxuriously cosy, the bed was a decent size, there was a smart digital CD player / radio (I didn't play with it as it seemed too high tec for me but it sounded like it did everything!), DVD player with selection of DVD's (wish we'd had time to watch them!), excellent tea making facilities with lots of choice, a selection of interesting books, beauty supplies like cotton wool laid on and the bathroom which, although small, contained a corner spa bath where we instantly relaxed. In fact we felt at home so easily here - that was half the appeal. The building is obviously old but sensitively cared for and it was lovely to look out of the quaint windows at the village outside and to hear the rain falling heavily on the quiet road outside while we were so snug.

We went down for dinner once we'd made ourselves more presentable and to say that dinner was incredible would be an understatement. We had the full three courses (accompanied by champagne and excellent wine) and coffee and we were blown away by all of it. The atmosphere was great, relaxed, friendly and happy and the other diners seemed as pleased as us. The service was immaculate and I loved the decor - vibrant colours arranged in a tasteful way in front of a huge window that allowed you to gaze out on the darkening scene outside and the stream running past the door.

We retired early as we were exhausted but were equally delighted with breakfast, I had a selection of fish that was delicious and by the time we left we felt like lighter, happier versions of our former selves. Sounds fantastic huh?! If I could rate this place as better than excellent I would - for it's accommodation, food, customer service, every last detail in fact, it was perfect. We hope to return for our anniversary and spend more time exploring the area and enjoying the hospitality. We won't be going back to the next hotel we stayed at in the Lakes, which really suffered in comparison with the Devonshire Arms!

Stayed at the Devonshire for one night as part of a package with champagne and dinner included. From the moment we stepped throught the door, the staff couldn't do enough for us. We had one member of staff dedicated to look after us, show us to our room etc. and she checked on us all through the stay.

The room in the inn was delightful, cosy and warm with flat screen tv and dvd player which was a surprise and full tea and coffee service. The champagne was a full bottle which we enjoyed in our room whilst we got ready for dinner. We had a lovely table by the log fire, perfect for this time of year! As a vegetarian I was well catered for, the staff were spot on and polite and the dinner really delicious and left us so full we had to go for a walk before bed!

We had breakfast in the modern brasserie and sat by the large windows watching the world go by whilst we enjoyed a choice of full continental buffet and then picked a cooked breakfast from the menu.

All in all we had a stunning weekend and wished we had stayed for 2 nights. We would definately go again.

We visited the Devonshire Arms for quiet night away for our 1st Wedding anniversary. The location, pub and rooms met our expectations, however, the service did not. From checking in, through to dinning in the brasserie to checking out it felt like it was an effort for any of the staff to help us. The main disappointment was during our dinner in the evening. We had booked a table for 8.30 on a Saturday night. We had to wait for ages before anyone came to take our drinks order, then again to order food, in fact, through the rest of the meal we had to ask staff for service rather than they coming to us. We tried to ignore the service the best we could, but when we had just finished our main course at around 9.30 we could not help but be disturbed by the staff. The manager and her team noisely clattered and banged their way about the room laying and re-organising tables ready for breakfast whilst talking loudly about their personal lives. We were offered dessert but asked if we could just have a couple of minutes to let our main course settle before we saw the menu, however, a couple of minutes later I watched the manager tell the waitress to take the menus to us and ask us again. I could have chosen a dessert, coffee and another drink but at this point we felt so unwelcome that we decided we weren't going to spend anymore money.
The pub and location have lots to offer, but I wouldn't recommend either staying or eating in the Devonshire Arms as the service is so poor.

The village of Beeley is quite pretty and the Devonshire Arms make a visit to Chatsworth very convenient. While I appreciate the warm welcome of the staff, the excellent breakfast and dinner, the rooms themselves cannot be recommended. They are minute and packed with mostly unnecessary oversize furniture - which makes packing/unpacking quite a feat.
Would not recommend the hotel for a tall couple, but children would probably love it.
