“Perfect long weekend”
Reviewed December 6, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Stayed here in October 2015 for a family birthday weekend. The house was beautifully furnished and finished to a very high standard. The upstairs living/kitchen area is perfect for family gatherings and we had everything we needed to cook meals for 6 of us. The beds are extremely comfortable with lovely bedding and fabrics, and all with fabulous en suite facilities. Absolutely loved it. The surrounding area is stunning, and incredibly peaceful. We walked to Alstonfield and had lunch at The George which was superb, and also walked over to Ilam Hall, didn't use the car once. Owners really friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back. Only tip would be to take warm woolly socks or slippers for the downstairs bedrooms as the floors are stone and a little chilly on the feet in cold weather (although there are rugs at the side of the bed). Don't hesitate - book it!

“Fantastic”
Reviewed September 20, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

I brought my french friends here for a long weekend. Everyone loved it. All the bedrooms are nice and very clean with ensuite shower or bathrooms. The open living space and kitchen is spacey and vey well equipped. The whole place is very tastefully decorated. Would definitely come back.

“Location Location”
Reviewed September 7, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Ideally located in the Peak District near Ilam, for walking to surrounding villages, or driving to Peak towns and further afield surrounding cities like Stoke, Manchester, Liverpool.
One thing that everyone agreed on, the showers are great, there's nothing like a blast of hot water for tired bodies -maybe the best showers in the UK. Ilam Hall, Church, Waterfall is well worth a visit for leisurely day out, but some towns like Bakewell are best avoided on August weekends..
Being able to pay with Paypal/credit card is a big plus for non residents, it does cost though. Also we appreciated tips from John and Andrea on how to get around, and in responding to our requests.
Finally we did visit one NT Sudbury Hall during the 2 weeks, and it was fine but very expensive. I would suggest skipping the Child Museum though, if you plan a visit. Just wandering around nearby stone circles, villages, pubs and churches was much more rewarding and free in most cases.

Liked best: The ability to walk straight from the farm without using ones car at all. The view from the large living room window.
Liked least: Soundproofing between floors could be a bit better. Needs a place to put soap and shampoo in the shower.

“Beautiful haven in the heart of the Peaks - the perfect weekend”
Reviewed July 7, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We’ve just returned from the most wonderful long weekend at Winnow Barn & we’re missing it already (& the homemade lemon drizzle cake!).

The Barn itself is beautifully appointed, rustic but luxurious, very homely & full of character. The bedrooms are superb – all with very comfy beds & ensuite bathrooms (every member of our group commented on how good the showers are) & the shared space is perfect for a cosy evening with friends & family. The kitchen is great & kitted out with everything you need for preparing meals, but there are also some fab places to eat out locally (we went to the The George in Alstonefield, as recommended on the Barn’s website – absolutely delicious).

The setting is beautiful & we loved sitting outside in the evenings watching the sunset (tucking into a BBQ, which we only successfully lit thanks to the owners!). The location is brilliant, wonderful walks, lots of local attractions & lovely villages to explore. Andrea & John provide such a warm welcome, nothing was too much trouble. We couldn’t recommend this place highly enough; the cheeky goats were the icing on the cake.

“What a fantastic place to stay!”
Reviewed June 28, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We have just had the pleasure of staying at Winnow Barn for a week. There was a lovely touch of a lemon drizzle cake and fresh milk to great us. This was an extended family stay with grandparents through to grand-children and their partners in their late 20’s. The accommodation is very nicely presented with top quality bedding and towels as well as a fully stocked kitchen with lots of extras which made the stay very pleasant. Winnow Barn is on a small working perfectly located near to Dovedale. We would highly recommend this as a great place to stay.
