“Beautiful Location, Excellent Quality Cottage”
Reviewed May 10, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

Shute Cottage is located in the beautiful, quiet, village of Cornworthy, up a quiet lane off the main "street".
Sadly the local pub has closed down, but good pubs remain in nearby Tuckenham or Dittisham
The cottage itself was generally clean and well equipped (although there were no "fire tools" provided for the wood burner, and the vacuum cleaner didnt work! Also one of the mattresses could do with replacement. These small issues knocked the property off getting an excellent rating, but we will definitely be back again in future.

The kitchen has everything you could ever require, and the dining room has a great selectrion of books and games. The garden stretches up the hillside with lovely views across the Bow Creek Valley towards Ashprington. The cottage is heated by a log burner and oil fired central heating, and is incredibly cosy despite its fairly large size. The traditional curving staircase adds character, as do the sloping bedroom floors! Modern touches, like the brand new high quality bathroom suite, complement the traditional cottage.

“Beautiful and comfortable retreat”
Reviewed December 6, 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We enjoyed a lovely week in this very attractive cottage. The owners have managed to make the cottage feel light, airy and cosy. We loved the dining room which is larger than it looks on the photograph. My 6 year old daughter LOVED the stream which runs through the front of the house. We all enjoyed walking down to the river, less than a mile away.... especially the dog. Wish we had gone in summer so that we could have made more of the garden.

This is a charming and very clean cottage. The village is quiet and friendly. There are fantastic walks within easy distance and a wonderful choice of pub/restaurants within a few miles. It was a delight .
We have already recommended it to some friends.

“House suffered from internal dampness”
Reviewed November 15, 2013 for a stay in November 2013

Stayed one night. relocated to another house in the village. It was November and raining, but there was a pervading smell of damp when entering house.
Agent very helpful, but refused to refund price differential of £25 after relocation to cheaper property, citing cleaning costs.

On visiting Shute Cottage on the guest’s departure we found the property to be warm and cosy with no evidence of damp, mould or mildew. Earlier in the year considerable work was carried out in re-rendering both chimneys to eliminate a previous source of damp ingress. These areas had fully dried out but left a little discolouration. The Owners have now redecorated and following a meeting with them at the cottage we are satisfied that no dampness is evident
