“Cold”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

We recently visited The Reindeer with friends, on a cold day in February. It was absolutely freezing when we arrived at lunchtime. The radiators were cold so we asked if the heating could be turned on and a member of staff said that she would sort it out, but there was still no heating on when we left. There was a table of 6 next to us who came in half an hour after us. 2 people on that table kept their coats on.

The menu was very good. We had the carvery which was excellent. A choice of 3 meats and lots of choice of vegetables. And only £8.95 per head. We had delicious puddings and the table service was good.

For food I would say excellent. For comfort very poor indeed.

I recommend summer visits only.

“Flexible and welcoming”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

A small group of us visited here recently following a planned walk. The Reindeer Inn was very welcoming and were happy for us to park in their car park for a few hours while we walked. They offered breakfast, which we declined, and the use of their toilets before we set off. When we returned they had a couple of tables arranged for us so we could choose where we sat. The menu looked pretty good but I'm trying to lose some weight and wanted a salad. Being mid winter they didn't have much on the menu but when I asked if they could make me something to order they were only too happy to oblige and prepared a very nice crayfish & prawn salad. My fellow walkers were less difficult and were all happy with their respective choices from the menu.

“Can't comment on the food as the wait to place an order took too long”
Reviewed February 6, 2013

We visited the Reindeer last Saturday with the intention of eating there at around 6pm. Upon arrival we were taken to a table, drinks order taken, drinks served and menu’s given out. The lady who served us then disappeared, and was replaced with a gentleman (presumably the owner/manager) and a waitress. The manager/owner came over to our table and made a fuss over our children but then walked off and to meet incoming clientele, serve them drinks, and take them and their drinks to their table.

In the meantime we were still waiting to order our food. I asked the waitress to come over, she promised me she would in 5 minutes. She didn’t. In all we waited 25 minutes to order our food, before deciding enough was enough and paying for the drinks and leaving. The excuse that he had just come on shift was poor, and that we should have said something as he didn’t know was even worse. I’d have thought that 6 people, sat down with menus and no food would suggest something, and given that we had asked his colleague to order our food too compounded matters.

Would we eat there again? Well we never did this time, would we re-visit it? Probably not. At 6pm they were quiet, I’d hate to think how long we would have to wait if they were busy. That combined with an unimaginative over priced menu is not enticing to me, nor was the empty condom packet in the sink in the men’s toilet. Their beer was quite nice though.

“Great food and a very warm welcome”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

Decided to go here for a meal last Friday, hadn't booked a table and the car park was fairly busy, which is usually a good sign. Hardly a spare table inside but we were shown to a table for (4), there were only two of us, which was fine. Rib Eye Steak was spot on, excellent friendly service nothing too much trouble. Shall definately eat here again. Would mention that we had visited here before on Boxing day with our dogs just for coffee, recieved a beautiful piece of christmas cake and the welcome was the same. They are dog friendly which is well worth knowing.

“A great Lunch”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Called at lunch time and we were shown our table quickly and service was second to none. I had a prawn and crayfish sandwich served with a small salad and this was excellent certainly did not skimp on the filling, my partner asked if he could have bacon and brie which was not on the menu, he was told yes of course they could do it it came complete with cranberry served in a ciabatta and was very good the lunch was completed with a dish of really yummy chips. The only downside if any, the drinks are a little on the expensive side.
