This is a very nice resort. Many pools and water activities. The beach area is quite a walk so did not go there. The resort is quite a ways from town. The city bus was said to be fairly easy to use or a cab would be about $20. r/t. The kitchen is not stocked for use. There are plates, glasses and cups, not pans, utensils, salt, pepper, etc. Bring your own if you want to be sure, or just bring microwave items. We took a city tour and it was very nice. Check in and out was fast, no problems. No problems with the shuttles, only a few minutes wait. The resort staff are very well organized.

Room Tip: If you want to see the water you need to go high, but I feel those are priority rooms and not availa...

Enjoyed the Grand Mayan immensely. Beautiful resorts, pools, food, & staff are amazing especially Martin Cavanaugh in their sales department. Very genuine and kind to everyone. Sensitive to what is best for the customer whether or not they make a purchase of any of their luxury property ownership packages. Ask for him if you are scheduled for a resort presentation. He will treat you with dignity and respect.

We just got back from our stay over New Years and overall I was very impressed with the Grand Mayan. First off, this is a property that solicits for timeshare presentations so expect to be asked a few times upon check in and possible via phone during your stay. We said we were not interested 3 times during the check in process and were not asked again. The grounds are well maintained and huge as there are 5 different hotels situated on the property. You can get lost as there are many paths around the property but if you don't want to walk you can take golf cart type shuttles which are very efficient getting you around. The cost of food/drinks is similar to staying at a hotel in the US so don't expect cheap meals. We ate a couple of the restaurants and the quality of the food was very good. For our breakfasts we ate in our room and did so by shopping at Walmart as there is a kitchen in most rooms. The pools are not heated so I would suggest staying at this resort when the sun is shining...that way the pools will heat up from the sun. For me I get cold but I did venture in the water and once you get use to it you will be fine. The lazy river is quite neat and long but I wish it went around the entire property. The staff are very friendly and say Hola every time you pass them. The rooms are spacious and although we didn't receive an ocean view (they reserve these for members) the view was nice. Just a short walk to the Marina gets you to some reasonably priced restaurants. I would highly recommend Eddie's as well as Guido Napoli Italian restaurants. I would also suggest going to the Market which is on the property and picking up some fresh chocolate baguettes/breaks which you can eat for breakfast in your room...reasonably priced @ $2 per and delicious! Because the property is so big you really don't feel crowded at all. The majority of reviews that I read before our trip was due to the travellers attending the timeshare presentation. I therefore would suggest avoiding this even though they shower you with discounts/free stuff and just relax and enjoy what the hotel property has to offer.

Room Tip: You really can't get a room with an ocean view unless you are a Grand Mayan member or you likely...

What an amazing vacation! We used my friends timeshare as an experiment, not really knowing what to expect. This place blew us away! Great kid spots (the playground in the pool was perfect for our two year old), not to mention the lazy river, the cabanas on the actual beach with access to great ocean and always full food and drink service anywhere you set your towel for the day!

We were able to have server all 'date nights' because the daycare is open in the evenings as well.

Food was great (I recommend the burger place of all things!) but of course all the restaurants were top notch.

Each unit has a full kitchen, so was able to go to Walmart and get groceries and snacks for when we wanted to stay in. There's a small pool on the balcony, so it provided lots of relaxation and entertainment.

The timeshare people really only bothered us once-so we got out of there relatively unscathed.

Highly recommended!!!

Service provided by the Grand Mayan Concierge on Sunday, Jan 5 was above and beyond the call of duty. We were so impressed! We spent the morning today with our Member Service Representative, Aggie York. She made our Member Update a very pleasant experience.

My in-laws are owners so we have been at this property for the last three years. I really enjoy coming to the property as the staff are all so friendly, the grounds are beautiful and the rooms fantastic. The luggage distribution system attempts to be organized but on busy days it may take awhile for it to get to your room. Yes, the Grand Mayan is time-share based so be aware. (My husband and I were not hassled at all).

Some tips:
- The front desk will check you in and hand you a wristband to take to the host stand to put on. If you don't want to be asked for a time share tour, avoid this desk. If and when they call tell them you aren't interested in going. The worst thing you can tell them is that you already own a timeshare and aren't interested in another. (If you own one, that means you most likely will buy another). My parents traded with RCI at XMAS and they weren't hassled at all.
- Go to Wal-Mart for some food items. It's a 60 peso ride ($6) and you can pick up cheap beer, margarita mix & tequila, pina colada fixings, avocados for guacamole and tomatoes for salsa.
- Restaurants in the resort are on the higher side (same as eating out in Vancouver tho) - leave the resort! There are 7 or so restaurants within 15 minutes walking (and the marina is beautiful!)
- Security staff now won't allow coolers to the pool - buy a soft sided cooler and disguise it in another bag to take to the pool. This way you can bring your own beers to the pool!
- We do a lot of cooking and the kitchen utensils aren't great. We usually bring: a sharp knife, a paring knife, flat cutting boards (the flimsy ones that pack into nothing), collapsible strainer and a small cheese grater.
- We bring a lot of wine too as the wine selection is not great at Wal-Mart!
- There is a free wireless internet option which is really only good for email...but it's free!
- The Grand Mayan is fantastic for kids - water slide, lazy river, water fountains.
- Turtle Release @ 6 p.m.- you will need to pay to hold and release the little turtles, but it is well worth it! (Takes place on the beach at the edge of the Grand Mayan around sunset.)

Room Tip: If you are there on an RCI trade, you will most likely be given a non-ocean view. Grand Mayan owner...

I am actually not sure why there has been so many negative comments about The Grand Mayan in NV. My husband and I arrived December 27th in their very busy season and had nothing but great service from our arrival here. The entire staff has been great. Yes the prices at the restaurants are priced as they would be in Canada and America but let's face it we are in a resort. The food at the restaurants was really good. We did attend a VIDA presentation but felt no pressure to buy at all. You just have to look around at the whole resort, Grand Mayan, Mayan Palace, Grand Bliss and Grand Luxxe and know that you are in a beautiful resort. The grounds are exceptional as well as the service. We are entering our 2nd week and staying at the Grand Luxxe which is amazing. I look forward to reporting on our week but so far it has been AMAZING. If you want class this is for you but If you are more interested in a low key, cheaper place, do not come here. Go somewhere else. The Brio Spa is great. Ask for Anna or Stephanie if you want a massage, especially Anna if you want a deep tissue massage.

Room Tip: Rooms with the odd numbers have the views. Go for a 4th floor or higher. We stayed on the 3rd floo...
