I've stayed at Grand Mayan Nuevo 3 times and each time was great. Once you know your way around it is not that bad of a walk out to the beach and numerous pools to choose from. Rooms have always been clean and staff excellent. My last visit we had an issue with one of the offers that was extended to us and we used not knowing we were supposed to pick up the discount vouchers beforehand. After about 20 minutes arguing at check out they refunded the full charges of the service (massage) from our room bill. A bit of a headache, but all in all a wonderful time each time I've been there. Can hardly wait to return. Great place for families with young children. We moved around throuhgout the day to the various pools and that was entertaining enough for the two young ones (3 and 2). Wave pool and splash park so much fun for the little ones.

Without exception, this facility has some of the best facilities in North America. The staff is very friendly and the restaurants all good. It's pricy, but worth the visit. Our problem this year, and it seemed like most of the people around us was the HORRIBLE system they have for checking in and out. You could easily wait over an hour to check in or out. It took my son over 2 hours to check out and he was 5th in line. We had 3 suites for our family and despite the fact that all charge slips (restaurants, shops, etc.) were carefully signed and printed with our names and room numbers, there were numerous errors of charges going to the wrong rooms. They have a MAJOR problem with this and it puts a damper on what would have been a perfect vacation. I DOWN GRADED THE SERVICE QUESTION BELOW, WHICH OTHERWISE WAS PERFECT, DUE TO THE FRONT DESK..

Room Tip: We have no clue how rooms are assigned. We were told that owners get 1st preference and those who t...

This is the second Grand Mayan property we have stayed at, and must admit, thus far we prefer the intimacy of the smaller Playa del Carmen location. Here, the property was so large and spread out we often had to resort to shuttles between sites.

Though service was EXCELLENT, staff were all top notch, cheery and helpful, we found the site overall noisy, there was no pool to really settle down and relax quietly, and workers began working with noisy equipment at 0730 on some days, right below our room. When one prefers to leave windows open to be hear to surf, or be greeted by the morning welcome of the birds, to be roused by lawnmowers, power washers and the like at 0730 was annoying.

This is a place for families, with open pools, and many kid friendly activities, more than couples seeking relaxation. If one is looking for quiet, only the Grand Luxxe will suffice, however that part of the resort is restricted. Even the Grand Bliss pool was not particularly quiet.

The rooms were wonderful, though the stove top is rather finicky, takes forever to heat up and eventually cool down.

Room Tip: Get ocean view....the other side of the Grand mayan overlooks a parking garage to the left, and new...

Stayed at the Grand Mayan for the second time the first week of Dec. 2012.
It was a girls week (me three daughters travelled with me).
First of all make sure to arrange the free shuttle to the resort from the airport. It is very quick and easy.
The check-in was a bit slow, but we were early and they did get us into a room right away. Of course, we were asked to do the time share talk, but when they found out it was only us girls, they left us alone.
Our two bedroom, was huge with lots of room for everyone. The cool pool on the balcony was not useful as it was always in the shade, hence too cool.
The pool area is lovely, and we always managed to find chairs. Even though we were often late getting to the pool. The staff there was very helpful.
The beach was very quiet, so we had our choice of chairs there.
The lazy river is a real plus, very relaxing and lots of fun.
We at mostly in our room. On the first day we took a taxi to Walmart and stocked up. After that we shopped at the market on the property.
Each evening we went out to a restaurant and always had fun.
The only resort restaurant we ate at was Gong. It was delicious and the staff was wonderful.
Although, The Grand Mayan is quite far from everything, the taxis are very reasonable. We spent three evenings in Puerto Vallarta and two in Bucerias.
Lots of great restaurants in both places. We also at at the Marina in Nuevo a couple of times. Also, very nice places to eat.
I recommend this place to everyone, it was a great week.

Nice pools and ocean, good beach, gentle sun, relaxing mood-that is what we're looking from vacation and saving money to go for. Certainly, ocean, beach, pools and sun are nice at Grand Mayan. But approach to people is... Squeeze the top-top $$$$ as much as possible with a smile and artificial respect. Everything there is designed just for that. What you get is far not adequate to what you pay for.

Our family stayed for Christmas and New Years, this time of the year is busy so as expected check-in was chaos. I had contacted the hotel 3 times before arrival to inquire about room view/location and were informed rooms were assigned by arrival. We arrived fairly early on a Saturday but not early enough we were in the middle/ main building but in a room facing the parking garage. The view didn't bother anyone but me, though it was always shady on that side of the building.

The pool area is amazing, and though pool chairs were hard to come by, timeshare people are notorious for 'saving' the pools, slide, etc. were not crowded.

The restuarants were fine, we liked the sushi restuarant best and had great service at the italian restuarant. The Santuary (lobby area for resort where you get your shuttle) had just opened so there was no good information on it, but we accidently ran into great entertainment there on 3 different nights. Service at the pool area was good and the spa and gym areas were nice and fairly priced for resort services.

The negatives for me were the distance to PV; NV didn't seem to have many great restuarants or shopping area. The Grand Mayan is also vast it took forever to walk through the pool area and get to the beach including hauling 2 kids and there stuff. The service was generally ok, more staff was needed for things like conceirge services and front desk, we often called and the phone would just ring and ring.

Room Tip: Like others have said during peak season I'm sure owners are assigned best rooms, non-pool view...

The resort property was lovely. The vegetation was breathtaking, and the decorations were beautiful. The massages at the spa were well worth it! Our suite was spacious. Yet, the resort never measured up to the Mayan Palace, which we stayed in two years earlier in Puerto Vallarta. And sadly, we learned that it will be demolished and rebuilt into a bigger better facility. That's all I can think of for positives.

This VIDA property was a bitter disappointment. At check in, we basically had to sign up for a timeshare talk before we could get to our room. This was not obvious at first. Apparently RCI gave us some perks for booking our trip there, which we did not even realize. At checkin, we were directed to a person to have these benefits explained and to get our room key/wrist bands. Rather than to do just that, the person we were sent to was the person to set us up for a time share presentation, even though we already owned a time share. She spent the greater part of an hour telling us what all we would get if we we signed up for a time share talk, and how expensive our stay would be if we did not. Although they preferred we charge everything purchased in the hotel to the room, some things could be purchased with cash or separate charge cards. The massages, for example, and other spa services did not need to be charged to the room. This, she did NOT explain during her "explanation of benefits.". So at the time of check out, it was extremely difficult to get our discounts for spa services since we charged to them to the room and did not pay separately. Tt took about two hours AT CHECKOUT to clear this up!!!

The hotel was so intent in getting us to purchase a VIDA property, they did not tell us the basics about this property. It took me three of the 7 days to realize the restaurant I wanted to eat at was at the Bliss, another VIDA property done the road, which was connected by a footpath and a shuttle cart system. I never learned that a smaller evening dinner fare was at another VIDA property, and was actually the first VIDA property in Nuevo Vallarta. i did not learn this until the last day of the trip, when it was too late to go. In addition, the property is totally isolated from Mexico. It is possible to vacation there and never realize you are in another country, which is appealing to some people, but not us.. To get to downtown Puerto Vallarta is a long taxi ride, though inexpensive.

The hotel travel agent was not helpful. We did not realize that bug spray was a necessity on one of the tours (the canopy zip line tour) although that may have been obvious, but we did not think of it. We were attacked by bugs and one of our party had a severe reaction to the bug-bites and needed medical treatment upon our return home! That could have easily been avoided if the hotel travel agent had mentioned anything about the tour we went on besides the cost. They were just intent, so it seemed, to get us to sign up.

Of the three rooms of the suite, although clean, my master bathroom was a disappointment. The shower head was broken and the water never warmed up, although service came out. I took all my showers in the other bathroom. The sinks did not drain very quickly so you brushed teeth staring at standing water. Maintenance came out and could not repair. The very biggest complaint about the suite was the smell!!

*****Our room was MOLDY smelling and MILDEW laden.***** One of our party had a mold allergy and we were not allowed to change rooms once we agreed to a room. The smell was very predominant and got in all of our clothes, luggage and belongings. I laundered everything four times upon my return! It was horrible to walk into the suite of rooms, regardless of how beautiful and large it was. Plus, we could not adjust the room temperature.

Positives? The beachfront was amazing. The water was warm. The ocean front was shallow enough for even the youngest to play in. The lazy river, which wound through the resort, was great. The buffet breakfast was yummy, though expensive comparatively speaking, and all of our restaurant servers were very attentive and helpful.

HOWEVER, none of the positives made up for the negatives. Choose another VIDA property for your Mayan-experience trip!

Room Tip: We were assured that you could get an ocean view room ONLY if you were a VIDA property owner. Our s...
