Bahia del Sol/ We stayed here a few years ago and liked it because it's on the beach, small resort with about fifty rooms. It's an older resort so there is always ongoing maintenance. Some rooms have been updated and are nicer, the others are more basic but fine for us. We had a few basic issues with our room like the screen door to the porch keep falling off etc but not a deal breaker. Nice beach with palapas. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The staff friendly. We got a good deal on a studio, around $50. per night. They have larger units with one bedrooms. All the rooms have balconies with ocean views. It is listed as a two ** resort so depending on how much you pay for a room you might be expecting more.

We first went to Bahia in 1993 and even though it is not a spectacular resort such as Bliss or Luxx or any of the other all-inclusives, we thought it was great. Relaxing, quiet, peaceful. Over the years we saw it change from a "will it still be here next year" to " wow, they have made some improvements like telephones, internet and TV". Now, it is back to intermittent TV which is 99% Mexican channels, telephones might or might not work but they do have internet in the lobby. But, do they have water as a couple of months ago the water bill was not paid so water was turned off. Beach taxes are also in question. It is a shame they have tried to turn this cute little resort we all loved into full time owners with a few timeshares left and then built those horrible condos.

Room Tip: Don't bother as they will give you what is available no matter what you requested which is why some timeshare owners buy fixed week, fixed unit

We stayed here in 2011 and it was great, so we booked for 2012. What a change. We requested nine months ahead for a first or second floor unit. We arrived and they put us on the third floor with a terrible spiral staircase to the bedroom on the fourth floor. It was horrible. We complained and were told they had given away all lower level rooms. Lights and appliances did not work properly. There was a moldy musty smell. They are always working on the grounds, but sure need to work on the units and try to help their customers. The pool was dirty and had a lot of litter floating around. The restaurant was still great, food was good and employees friendly.

Room Tip: The rooms are all run down but the first and second floor are convenient. But they don't pay attention to your request at all.

My father has owned here for two decades, my first visit was this December when a family reunion was held. Though my wife and I stayed at another resort down the beach, once we first saw this place, I understood why my father loved it so very much.

As it was one of the very first resorts to be built along this stretch of beach, back then, the Hacienda style of architecture was of fashion as it still should be today. This property represents all that is good about staying in a Mexican style resort. This is not a hi-rise, nor was it designed to see how many hundreds of people can you cram onto a piece of property as has been done to every other property adjacent along this beach.

No, this is a cute, very quiet, low key and delightful little place to enjoy a break form whatever you are escaping from. The staff I met were very friendly and helpful, the outside restaurant (the only one) serves a nice mix of simply, good eats at fair prices.

Even at Christmas time, there were always lounges available around the pool, what a surprise. Again we did not stay here, only spent time with our family but I can say with no doubt that this will be where we stay next time around.

My only complaint and it has only to do with the property Owner, is the he built the most UGLY high-rise next door, inches away from the existing building and as close to the beach as his evident bribes would reach. It's very sad but a testament of how poorly Mexico protects it's precious beaches. But then again, when was the last time you visited, Miami Beach?
