We recently stayed at the Mayan Palace and although it was nice the Grand Mayan is much nicer and last december we stayed at the Riu Palace which was even better. The housekeeping and staff were excellent at the Mayan Palace. The food was good at all the restaraunts but very expensive. The wi fi is expensive which I guess is a good incentive to relax but not great when wanting to check in on the flight etc. The rooms are dated but very clean. We will stay at the Grand Mayan next visit.

Room Tip: we had a great view of the pool and ocean and I didnt mind the walk as it was a good way to work off...

My wife and I booked the Grand Mayan in Nuevo 6 months early and requested an ocean front view, as we were showed when we purchased at the Grand Mayan. We were promised and ocean front room and all was set. When we arrived, there were two hotel clerks, Javier and Andres who misled us from day one. Oh, there was no ocean view available but we are #1 on the waiting list. We checked daily and got the same story every day. When I asked to see the waiting list, its against policy ??? I offered Javier a good sized tip to see if there was anything he could do. He willingly took it and said it looks very good. We should pack everything up by 9:00am and give him a call when we were done. We did, and when we called, nothing available but we are #1 on the list. Unpack and stay where you are. Javier had no recollection of my tip. After 10 days, I asked how we could still be #1 on the list. Surely someone checked out in the last 10 days......no understand. Our room had the safe removed and it was a fight to get one reinstalled, the fridge did not work, and the computer was dismanteled. Didn't matter as you cannot afford the internet daily charge anyway. It appears all the Grand Luxx owners were bumped to the Grand Bliss and they were all bumped to the Grand Mayan ocean view. No wonder we could not get the O. View. One Grand Luxx owner told us she bought in the G. Luxx 4 years ago and has never been able to stay there. She has been bumped every year. The timeshare presentation was a joke. They tell you its only a members update, which escalades into a full blown time share presentation for 10% off your room charges. On the street they are offering $5000 pesos for the exact same presentation. They have no clue how to provide service. Everything they do is for "tips" and expect to do nothing in return. The grounds themselves are absolutely beautiful. The concierge counter can't do enough for you - they were excellent. It's only the front counter staff that have to learn to be honest with people and they will understand. North Americans do not respond well to lies. In order to enjoy a holiday here, expect the absolute worst, and it may be a little better than you expected. In 25 years of travelling around the world this was the most disappointing holiday we ever had. The Mexicans just don't understand how far honesty and sincerity and actually trying to help people, can actually go.

Room Tip: Don't expect an ocean view. It won't happen Don't believe a thing the hotel staff tell...

I stayed at the Mayan Palace March 9-16. I am an owner, at the Grand Bliss level, and therefore was given the band to use the pool at the Grand Mayan. The Grand Mayan pool is great for the guest who wants the loud music, the active party scene, and does not mind sitting right next to their neighbor. If you want to get a lounge chair, get there really early, as guests selfishly put towels and books and block off huge zones of chairs. By 10 a.m. it was a challenge to find two chairs. We eventually found some in a quiet, garden area. In that pool area, the lazy river is definitely worth a few rounds. Personally, I preferred the pool at the Mayan Palace. It is quieter and you are not sitting one on top of the other.
I have been to the property on the Riviera Maya several times, and happy hour works a little differently in Nuevo Vallarta. During the day it rotates on an hourly basis through the various bars and restaurants in the pool areas, and at night it is at the various restaurants or Grand Mayan lobby bar. The schedule is in the guide that you get at check-in.
The noise construction was quite bearable. We stayed on the back side, overlooking the pond and check-in zone. The balcony door was open all the time, as the weather and fresh air were so pleasant. The shuttle carts at night were noisier than the construction during the day, but they may have been working on a different type of project compared to when other guests were there.
The greenery along the walkways is beautiful! The Mayan Palace and Grand Bliss are probably the two best situated buildings in terms of getting to the restaurants. The walk to the pool is about ten minutes, but along well maintained pathways, which are narrow so walking together can be a challenge if others are coming in the opposite direction.
The employees are very friendly, helpful and attentive. I was always greeted with a big smile and a warm hello. The only poor experience all week was at Tramonto, where it seems that our waiter completely forgot about us. The maitre d' ended up clearing our table, apologizing and finishing up the service.
It is easy to get to some restaurants right off the property. Take the property shuttle to the Grand Mayan/Gong restaurant, walk out the resort gate and bear left. About two "city blocks" later your have a few choices to your right and left.
Overall, a great experience, and a needed relaxing vacation.

Beautiful property, long walk to the beach and pool but it was beautiful.Staff is very gracious and helpful. An ocean view would have been nice, but we were stuck with the construction site. STill we enjoyed our stay very much. If you get a chance try the restaraunt La Dolce Vita, it was delicious! The beach was lovely and the weather-perfect!

Room Tip: If you want an ocean view you have to agree to attend their presentation. We didn't and looked...

Be careful with Carlos Ruiz! He seems as a sale person but he is lier and disgrace thief! Don't believe him! We have signed contract with him for 3500$ but when we've got our contract by mail we did not find nothing that he has promised.

Our family of 4 adults stayed at the Mayan Palace, one of many hotels located in the large Nueva Vallarta compound, for one week in December 2011. Our rooms were pleasant and well attended and the staff couldn’t have been more polite and helpful. The security is excellent, it is very safe, and except for indigenous artwork on display and the Mexican people on staff there is little indication of actually being in Mexico.
The hotel is under constant construction; extremely noisy during daylight hours. It is our understanding that this construction will be going on for quite some time as they tear down buildings and build new ones. In spite of this inconvenience, guests are not allowed to use the facilities at any of the other Mayan hotels. It is a 10 minute walk or a shuttle ride to the ocean pool and on “nearby” restaurants. We found the food in the complex to be mediocre and overpriced. The taxi fare each way to Puerta Vallerta is $20.00 and it is a $6 to 10 cab ride each way to the nearest large grocery store. The Mayan Palace charges $7.00 per hour for internet access (no free wi-fi) and $25.00 per week for parking. We will definitely not return to this hotel.

Room Tip: There is no point in asking for an ocean view room. The ocean is barely visable from the hotel.

This is a wonderful resort I would suggest it to anyone that just wants to sit on the beach in the sun or by the pool It is such a beauitful Place But If you want to do anything but sit on the resort stay closer to town it is about 20 bucks each way by cab to down town and the resort prices are high there is a few great places to eat around the resort if you dont mind a 20 minute walk or so

Room Tip: Stay on the ocean side we had 2 rooms 1 was great the other looked at a cement wall
