We are owners of the 2 Bedroom 2 Bath units at the Grand Bliss in Nuevo Vallarta...overall, the trip was very nice, as usual. We really do enjoy ourselves here! Delightful place - luxurious grounds, beautiful grand lobby, friendly staff, oceanview, etc. I'll mention a few things that I discovered from this trip -- all in random order.

Like others will mention, these units have a kitchen, living and dining area, infinity pool on every balcony (for suite owners/renters), beautiful bathrooms with jacuzzi tubs. Kitchen, unfortunately, is not ideal for "real cooking". We discovered this previously, so we were prepared this time. 2 small refrigerators under the island, a very small sink that makes washing dishes difficult, oven, & microwave. NO oven, just an FYI. We went to the local Walmart in Nuevo Vallarta, quick cab ride around 70-80 pesos. Got all the main necessities - water, paper towels, disinfecting wipes, sink gloves, a small cooking pan (the one provided doesn't really cook well, but it looks nice), liquor/beer, breads, deli meat, fruits, vegetables, snacks, plastic containers and plastic bags. Oh, we also picked up Microdyne to wash the fruits and vegetables.

We became PROS at being lazy, had breakfast and lunches within the Unit, went to the Grand Mayan for fun in the Lazy River, used the fitness center, and attended Pilates classes. My husband played golf almost entirely everyday, went to the driving range. We soaked in the infinity pool, laid on the big plush chaise reading a book, etc. In the evenings, we ventured to the restaurants on site - Tramonto, Gong, Burger Custom Made, Havana Moon.

Restaurants are all decent, but not exactly "cheap". Cafe del Lago is currently under construction, so the breakfast buffet has been moved to Havana Moon, which is equally as good. Burger Custom Made is new, located in the Grand Luxxe area, and lovely setting. Definitely made eating a burger more delightful, with the exception that the buns were way too large for the burger itself. We went to the Sun Market located in Grand Mayan and picked up some additional items. We even walked to the OXXO by the Sea Garden marina area, and grabbed items there too. There is a Prime159 steakhouse around there, Eddies, and a pizza joint, all very good too, and cheaper than within the resort. Just a quick 5-10 minute walk from the Grand Mayan.

Complimentary Shuttle from the Airport to The Grand Bliss, FYI. Call the resort, and they will arrange for a complimentary shuttle service with MTS (Miller Transportation Services). Make sure when you get out of Customs, note that you will go through all these "timeshare" guys, and they will make you believe they are helping you out, and part of MTS. NOT the case. Keep walking, just keep walking unitl you're actually through the glass doors. There you will find the REAL MTS guys. They will check you in.

There is construction throughout the resort. They are tearing down parts of Mayan Palace, and building more Grand Luxxe buildings. Grand Mayan is crazy busy with tons of families and children. Grand Bliss is more quiet, and less kids. Construction happens all day, from early morning to afternoon. Everywhere you go, even within your room, you will hear something. It's not a big deal, but it's just something to consider.

Timeshare Presentation - yes, after you check in, you will be sent to another person to get your wristbands. It is there that they ask you sit in a "meeting", depending on whether you are an owner or not. If you are an owner, they will state, "owners meeting", etc... either way, it's a 90 minute presentation including a breakfast buffet. Not the case. Always expect at least 3-5 hours. They will give you 10% off your bill, and 50% off discounts on adventures and excursions. To be honest, I just attend them, even though I am already an owner. I don't plan to buy, or upgrade, but I want my discounts. I was adament with them this time around, that I would walk up and leave, if they extended my meeting for more than 3 hours. They were done within 2.5 hours. Which, I'm OK with. But others may not be.

Finally - this is the MAIN reason why I cannot give this review 5 stars. We checked out the night before we were actually to leave the resort, which is normal. Normally if you, say, leave the resort on a Saturday, you can check out from 7-10PM Friday night. That's what we did. We went through the bill, item by item with 3 front desk staff, and everyone OK'd everything. We paid the bill, it was a friendly experience. 2 hours later, we receive a call from the Front Desk that they didn't charge us enough, that suddenly we owed them $$$. Really? How can that be? 5 people looked over the charges before it was approved, and suddenly we're being asked for more $$$? Of course we did not pay it, as it was not justifiable, and pretty much, outright sneaky. We talked to another Front Desk lady the next morning as we were departing and were cordial, friendly, explained the situation. They said not to worry about it, they would take care of it on their end, but after being called at 10PM in the evening, asking us to come down and pay the difference, and being persistent about it, it left a bad taste in my mouth. So this is something more word of caution. This has never happened to us in the past, and I certainly do not hope it will in the future, but it is an eye opener to be cautious and aware.

We stayed here from Wednesday till Saturday thank goodness, after being moved from the Grand Mayan.
I am married with no children and enjoy peace and quiet on vacation. if you are looking for a party like atmosphere this is not the place for you.
Simply put:
*beautiful room with ocean view and gorgeous deck
*quiet grounds, and lobby
* close to surrounding available places to dine
*friendly staff

The only negatives I have, some can't be helped
* river mites! Bitten all week long throughout our entire stay. This entire resort area is surrounded by lush greenery and the river which is where i think the critters come from. i hope they can figure out a way to get it under control.
*you can get room service there but you must leave the hotel to dine any where.
*our fridges in the kitchen were REALLY loud and made booming noises that we just couldn't figure out how to turn off. Woke us up in the middle of the night...every night.

Room Tip: Always try for an ocean front room

We stayed at the Grand Bliss and really enjoyed our time there. The rooms are absolutely luxurious, and the resort is beautiful. The beach is very well maintained, and the pools are immaculate. The nearby towns are relatively close, so they are within a quick taxi ride for exploring. You'll definitely find that those towns are not very wealthy towns, but they are interesting to walk around in. Vallarta adventures is very close and has great activities (make sure you try the outdoor adventure - zip line canopy tour: it is awesome). We also did the dolphin swim there, which was cool but I don't think it's worth the hype.

The food everywhere is very good, and the service is fantastic. Everybody speaks English, and the water is purified, as not to make tourists sick. The "travel agent" that sits by the front desk is very helpful, and they have all kinds of interesting excursions that you can take part in. The spa and fitness center is really nice. The fitness center is fully-featured with free-weights and cardio machines, and the spa is great. My wife talked me into a couples massage, and it was definitely worth the price of admission. It was very relaxing, and you get to spend as much time as you want in the spa, relaxing in their spa pools with tea and calming music.

One word of caution though: against our better judgment, we went on the time-share sales presentation. We were told that it would only be 90 minutes long, and that we would receive a certain percentage off our bill for attending the presentation. They kept us there for 5 hours, and they only discounted us half of what they promised us off the bill. The property they were trying to sell us was great, but they were practically begging us to buy a time share; it made us think that it wasn't really worth the asking price since they were so desperate.

Choosing "shoulder season" between winter and before the start of summer is the absolute best. We've made the trip for the last three years. This was our first time at the Grand Bliss; we'd previously stayed at the Grand Mayan. The pools are a very short walk over to the Grand Mayan. Although the rooms were better appointed, the primary difference was the service. Check in and Check out were effortless. Any problems with the room - the batteries in the door lock needed changing - were immediately and personally handled by the desk staff.

This was one of our best vacations ever!

Room Tip: We traveled with owners. According to the management, the ocean side rooms are reserved for owners...

A beautiful 2 year old building with a grand lobby, really huge with plenty of places to sit and relax. The 2 bedroom 2 bath suite we had looked out on the golf course and new train station. We were on the 8th floor of the 9 story building (models only on the 9th floor). The suite was well equipped with 3 large flat screen tv's and dining plates, etc for 10, but a table only for 4 and a snack bar for 2.
The bedrooms had king size beds, couches and lots of pillows and counter space. Each bedroom also had a hot tub with sliding privacy doors that opened from the bathroom to the bedroom. The walk in tiled showers are huge, with rain shower head and lots of hot water.
The kitchen has a four burner counter top, no oven, a microwave, blender, toaster and an excellent lime squeezer! Two small fridges are under the snack bar and have a combined large capacity.
The pools for the Grand Bliss are under construction, but the Grand Mayan and Mayan Palace pools are available on either side of the Grand Bliss. The Grand Mayan pool complex is closest with a great lazy river ride, especially when the wave generator is pushing the water.
Plenty of palapas and lounges on the beach.
We enjoyed off site restaurants in nearby, walkable Nuevo Vallarta. My favorite is 8 Tostadas, but we also enjoyed Eddie's and Por Que No. At Sunset Village, Napolitos is also good.

We just got home from The Grand Bliss last night. We had an awesome vacation!!! We had 2 master suites with ocean views. We had some family friends go with us and have 3 kids, ages 17, 5 and 18 months. There was something for everyone! We spent a lot of time at the Grand Mayan pools, water slide, lazy rivers and wave pools. We also spent time at the kids club area, the beach and the gym. We upgraded to The Grand Luxxe and were able to go hang out over there, too. The food was much better over there and served to you pool side which was awesome! The service everywhere was great, but exceptional at The Grand Luxxe.

The beds in The Grand Bliss are so much more comfortable than the Mayan Palace!! The kids loved the "dipping" pool on the deck. Gorgeous sunset views! Housekeeping service was incredible...everyone was simply awesome, friendly and extremely helpful! We did go to the local store (mexican version of Wal-Mart) and get a lot of groceries. Cooked our own fajitas a couple of nights. There is no salt, pepper or any kind of sharp knife in the place, but it wasn't a big deal.

This really was one of the best trips we have ever had. We can't wait to go back!!! And not once from the time we got VIP treatment at the airport to the time to got back on the plane did any of us feel unsafe or threatened. This resort is completely safe, security everywhere, cameras everywhere and who comes and goes is always monitored.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are awesome! Just ask kindly for what you want and you are almost always accommoda...
