We are owners of the 2 Bedroom 2 Bath units at the Grand Bliss in Nuevo Vallarta...overall, the trip was very nice, as usual. We really do enjoy ourselves here! Delightful place - luxurious grounds, beautiful grand lobby, friendly staff, oceanview, etc. I'll mention a few things that I discovered from this trip -- all in random order.
Like others will mention, these units have a kitchen, living and dining area, infinity pool on every balcony (for suite owners/renters), beautiful bathrooms with jacuzzi tubs. Kitchen, unfortunately, is not ideal for "real cooking". We discovered this previously, so we were prepared this time. 2 small refrigerators under the island, a very small sink that makes washing dishes difficult, oven, & microwave. NO oven, just an FYI. We went to the local Walmart in Nuevo Vallarta, quick cab ride around 70-80 pesos. Got all the main necessities - water, paper towels, disinfecting wipes, sink gloves, a small cooking pan (the one provided doesn't really cook well, but it looks nice), liquor/beer, breads, deli meat, fruits, vegetables, snacks, plastic containers and plastic bags. Oh, we also picked up Microdyne to wash the fruits and vegetables.
We became PROS at being lazy, had breakfast and lunches within the Unit, went to the Grand Mayan for fun in the Lazy River, used the fitness center, and attended Pilates classes. My husband played golf almost entirely everyday, went to the driving range. We soaked in the infinity pool, laid on the big plush chaise reading a book, etc. In the evenings, we ventured to the restaurants on site - Tramonto, Gong, Burger Custom Made, Havana Moon.
Restaurants are all decent, but not exactly "cheap". Cafe del Lago is currently under construction, so the breakfast buffet has been moved to Havana Moon, which is equally as good. Burger Custom Made is new, located in the Grand Luxxe area, and lovely setting. Definitely made eating a burger more delightful, with the exception that the buns were way too large for the burger itself. We went to the Sun Market located in Grand Mayan and picked up some additional items. We even walked to the OXXO by the Sea Garden marina area, and grabbed items there too. There is a Prime159 steakhouse around there, Eddies, and a pizza joint, all very good too, and cheaper than within the resort. Just a quick 5-10 minute walk from the Grand Mayan.
Complimentary Shuttle from the Airport to The Grand Bliss, FYI. Call the resort, and they will arrange for a complimentary shuttle service with MTS (Miller Transportation Services). Make sure when you get out of Customs, note that you will go through all these "timeshare" guys, and they will make you believe they are helping you out, and part of MTS. NOT the case. Keep walking, just keep walking unitl you're actually through the glass doors. There you will find the REAL MTS guys. They will check you in.
There is construction throughout the resort. They are tearing down parts of Mayan Palace, and building more Grand Luxxe buildings. Grand Mayan is crazy busy with tons of families and children. Grand Bliss is more quiet, and less kids. Construction happens all day, from early morning to afternoon. Everywhere you go, even within your room, you will hear something. It's not a big deal, but it's just something to consider.
Timeshare Presentation - yes, after you check in, you will be sent to another person to get your wristbands. It is there that they ask you sit in a "meeting", depending on whether you are an owner or not. If you are an owner, they will state, "owners meeting", etc... either way, it's a 90 minute presentation including a breakfast buffet. Not the case. Always expect at least 3-5 hours. They will give you 10% off your bill, and 50% off discounts on adventures and excursions. To be honest, I just attend them, even though I am already an owner. I don't plan to buy, or upgrade, but I want my discounts. I was adament with them this time around, that I would walk up and leave, if they extended my meeting for more than 3 hours. They were done within 2.5 hours. Which, I'm OK with. But others may not be.
Finally - this is the MAIN reason why I cannot give this review 5 stars. We checked out the night before we were actually to leave the resort, which is normal. Normally if you, say, leave the resort on a Saturday, you can check out from 7-10PM Friday night. That's what we did. We went through the bill, item by item with 3 front desk staff, and everyone OK'd everything. We paid the bill, it was a friendly experience. 2 hours later, we receive a call from the Front Desk that they didn't charge us enough, that suddenly we owed them $$$. Really? How can that be? 5 people looked over the charges before it was approved, and suddenly we're being asked for more $$$? Of course we did not pay it, as it was not justifiable, and pretty much, outright sneaky. We talked to another Front Desk lady the next morning as we were departing and were cordial, friendly, explained the situation. They said not to worry about it, they would take care of it on their end, but after being called at 10PM in the evening, asking us to come down and pay the difference, and being persistent about it, it left a bad taste in my mouth. So this is something more word of caution. This has never happened to us in the past, and I certainly do not hope it will in the future, but it is an eye opener to be cautious and aware.
