We stayed 2 weeks at the Mayan Palace and ate 4 dinners at 8 Tosdadas.
Love the comp tequila shots to start the festivities. This restaurant feels authentic compared to all the other restaurants in NV that we have been to. We love the tortilla soup with all the fixings and the quesadillas. But our favorite is the molcajete dinners for two with salsa made to order at the table... wonderful!!
The hostess, Marisa, is a very nice lady as are all the servers.
Probably hot in the summer, because there is no ac, but I would still go!

We often have a meal at 8 Tostados when we are in NV. My husband invariably has a whole huachinango [snapper] and I choose garlic shrimp or a Mexican dish and we have always enjoyed our meal and the friendly service. This time we were there with friends and we noticed a small line on the menu -- "ask about the special." They brought a different menu with three varieties of molcajete -- a dish we love but haven't seen on any menu in NV. A meal for two, it is a sizzling fajita consisting of a variety of meats and veg cooked in a bowl made of lava rock which has been heated to a high temperature in an oven. We chose large juicy shrimp, tender slices of beef, chorizo [Spanish sausage], onions and nopal [cactus.] We spooned portions of this mix onto warm tortillas and added salsa to taste. Delicious! The salsa was made at our table in a smaller unheated molcajete - Mexican [spicy] for us and Gringo [mild] for our friends. The food remained hot until our last bite. We were then offered a shot of tequilla. A very Mexican meal! Thanks to Marisa & her staff for their good service and excellent presentation.

p.s. some years ago I bought a molcajete in downtown Vallarta -- it has a little pig face. Because of its weight, it was not easy to haul it back to Toronto but we managed. From time to time we cook our own molcajete which is very good but it never tastes quite the same as the ones we have eaten here -- different ingredients, different ambiance.

The atmosphere and service were excellent. We ordered Jumbo garlic fried shrimp and coconut shrimp, The food was mediocre and the shrimp were rubbery.

Mariscos 8 Tostadas is a casual, friendly little restaurant with great food at reasonable prices. It is located next to Vallarta Adventures swim with the dolphins. We had lunch there and couldn't have been more satisfied. Of special note: shrimp with avocado and fresh seafood soup.
