I had heard a lot of great things about this resort. Upon my arrival I realized that nothing that I was told did justice to the Marival. Our Penthouse suite was absolutely wonderful and everything I had imagined.
While at the pool, Felix, the most awesome person was around to check on us every 30-40 minutes with a cool spray and ice cold wash clothes to help us stay comfortable. He made sure that we had everything we needed at all times.
Luis the concierge was amazing as well. I was having a problem with some airline business and he took the time to work with me and help me to get the situation resolved. While I do not remember everyone's name at the resort, I have nothing but great things to say about everyone that we dealt with. I could not have been happier with my choice to go to this resort and I definitely will return again.

Room tip: There is not a bad room at the Marival Residences. Whether you have a villa, a penthouse suite or a regular suite, you cannot go wrong..

Perfect time of year in Nuevo Vallarta because there are not tons of tourists. It was hot but not busy at all so it felt very exclusive as well. The pools were not crowded either. All the staff here both at the residence and the VIP Beach Club over at the hotel were AMAZING!!! Omar, Salavador, & Miriam at the VIP Beach Club were so helpful and very acccomodating!!! Just a little thing to note, at the residence even though we were not beach front, the Residence had golf carts that would take us to and from the Marival Hotel--the residences have their own private area which was super special as well. The Residences is much newer than the Hotel if that is your thing. We stayed in a 2 bedroom/2 bath for our family of 4 and it was more than plenty of room. We would TOTALLY come back here. Thank you Yellow Brick Road Travel for arranging such an AMAZING adventure for us!!!! ⛱

I have traveled to Nuevo Vallarta yearly for quite some time now. This was my first time at this resort and it certainly does not live up to the hype or the reviews. We are a multigenerational family that ranges from a toddler to a 68 year old grandma. This trip we stayed in a 2 bedroom Penthouse suite and utilized the family emotion program. There are three good things about this hotel....1) the food 2) the family emotion concierge, Raquel, and 3) two pool attendants Felix and Paco. The rest of the trip was lacking in comparison to other area resorts.

1) Ground transportation-nothing special, overpriced, and not private. Shop around, you can do better than the hotel shuttle.
2) The room. The penthouse has a plunge pool. This is a roughly 20 feet long by 2 feet deep. It is on the roof of the penthouse and is accessed by a very difficult, steep and narrow staircase. One without a railing. Perhaps most interesting is the fact that there is nothing to stop your child from reaching the penthouse and the pool. The steps are dangerous, the pool is dangerous, and for a family suite, it was poorly thought out and designed. The suite is advertised as being much larger than it is. The beds are atrocious. And the hotel knows. The next morning our concierge asked us if we wanted a topper. Seriously, it is like sleeping on cement.
3) The other resort. We knew when we booked this hotel that it was not on the beach. We knew there was a shuttle. What we didn't know is that we would hear traffic noise. Nor did we know that the other resort was FILTHY. Yes it is on the beach, but is outdated and just dirty. The fact that the too resorts are owned by the same brand is mind boggling. The other resort doesn't even use trash cans. There are plastic bags tied up to poles. The lounge chairs are covered in bird droppings and are worn out. Yes you can use the beach club, but why? The food at the other resort (aside from Papagayo) is also low quality and poor tasting. Truly awful.
4) The family emotion program-they advertise additional excursions. None are appropriate for a toddler. They only run on designated days and it is impossible to figure out the schedule. They do provide strollers/push cars etc. You can also get a DVD player. However, it didn't play many of our dvds as they were out of region. The family emotion program does come with additional bath amenities, a spa coupon, a walgreens and iTunes gift card, and a photo shoot. You can also pick out a selection of pool toys. What was most disappointing is that the family emotion program advertises paparazzi. Meaning, a photographer from the resort that takes pictures of your family over the course of your stay. That only happens at the other resort. The photo shoot that is included is also only at the other resort and includes 10 photos. The cd of all your photos is 250.00.
5) The main pool. The main pool is essentially in two sections. One section is about 1.5 feet deep. The balance of the pool is only 5 or so feet deep. We were there during "slow" season and would not want to be there during busy season as there would be no room in the pool for those wanting to be wet above their knees. There is no music, no activities, no show, and zero view. You could be at any average hotel pool in any hotel. Paco was outstanding with drink service. The rest were hit and miss.
6) The kids area is at the other resort. It is small and as I stated above, not worth the visit. The slides in the kids pool were not operational and it was overrun with poorly supervised children.
7) The staff. With the exception of Raquel, Felix, and Paco, the rest of the staff seemed aloof and rude. No hellos, no goodbyes, no attempts to help you, and when you did ask for assistance, they acted as though it was an imposition.
8) The restaurants. While overall the quality of food is outstanding, the ambiance is lacking. There are three restaurants and one bar. Insu, the top restaurant is really a patio that serves small plates. During the day you can use their rooftop pool. Lemongrass serves lunch and dinner. Small, limited menu. The main restaurant, Omaggio, has good food, limited variety and themes. The décor is bland. It would be nice if there were more restaurants/variety. Omaggio was routinely described by guests as the coffee shop.

I truly don't understand how tripadvisor has this hotel as #2 or #3. There are so many better in the area.

If you want quiet spa-like experience...this is the place to go. The food and drinks were marvelous. There is only one pool and a really nice jacuzzi. Couldn't give our experience a full five stars because Tripadvisor uses a third party booking agency that accidentally booked us at the Marival Resort which is a sister hotel. The Residency basically turned us away unless we paid the up charge. So we had to stay over at the Resort the first night until we got it sorted out with the travel agency. Just imagine that on your first day after a long travel! So when you book, make sure it is for the right hotel since the names are so similar.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we had to leave - we enjoyed every second. Breakfast was fabulous, lunch by the pool with friends was great and dinner was the only small disappointment but when everything else is sooooo amazing you really can't complain!!
