We spent six days in Nuevo Vallarta and wanted one day of adventure so we picked the Extreme Adventure through Vallarta Adventures on the recommendation of a friend who had taken several of their tours last year.
We had to make our own way by taxi to the Vallarta Adventures location in Nuevo Vallarta (absolutely not a problem, but this was maybe because we booked ahead online. Maybe if you book through an agent at your resort hotel they come and pick you up-?)
The drive from their office location to the site was about 50 minutes, again not a problem as we got to see a sample of the 'real' Mexico, outside the opulence of our resort.
Our group was 14 people, led by Andrea, Victor, Sergio, Luigi, Edgar and Many (Manuel) taking photographs. We zip lined, rappelled, drove/rode in ATV's, did archery and rode a water slide. The final zip line, the 'Superman' was amazing, 70mph above the treetops.
Safety was a priority for our guides, and other than my own fear of being that high up, I did not feel unsafe at any point in time. We were given detailed directions and the guides helped us throughout the tour.
In addition to being safety-conscious, the guides were friendly, sociable, encouraging, made us laugh......all in all, a fantastic team who worked really well together.
I have seen negative comments about the cost of the photo's - yes, they're not cheap, but they are comparable with any activity you do these days where you can purchase photo's at the end. We bought the CD with all the photo's of our family and the go-pro videos of us on the Superman zip line. There is no option to take your own photo's as you can't take a camera on the tour.
Definitely take a change of clothes as you will be dusty from the forest and wet if you decide to do the water slide. My husband did not do the water slide as he has back issues and he made the right choice - the first 'turn' knocked my head from side to side and hurt my neck a little, although I suffered no lasting effects and would do it again.
Eat a big breakfast before you go - the full trip is about 6 hours with snacks at the very end as you look at your photo's. They do have water stations at various points around the tour though.
My only 'suggestion' for Vallarta Adventures is maybe a little more detail in the brochure to help choose between the Extreme Adventure and the Outdoor Adventure. It turns out our friend had done the Outdoor Adventure last year and we assumed we were taking the same tour. I'm glad we did the Extreme because of the Superman zip line, but it was difficult to differentiate between the two. They do have a number to call on their website though, so I'm sure one of their agents would have explained the differences to me.
We HIGHLY recommend this tour, and can only imagine other tours with Vallarta Adventures are of an equally high standard. If we visit the area again, we will do the Outdoor Adventure.
