“Great value!”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

We booked this hotel as part of a last-minute deal. The hotel is located in Nuevo Vallarta (about a $15 USD cab ride away from Puerto Vallarta and the airport). The hotel is very nice, all inclusive, with wonderful beach access and activities throughout the day. The food on the buffet and in the restaurants was better than average. Our room was clean, spacious, and everything we needed. The wine list was abysmal (they had one red, one white, and one sparkling - none of them tasted good to this wine lover).

Our chief complaint would have to be the "vultures" selling time shares and excursions. They are positioned right outside the elevators so you are stopped by them almost every time you go to and from your room. Despite the fact we weren't interested (we pre-purchased all of our excursions), they felt inclined to stop us several times a day. They were way to eager to show us a 90-minute presentation and simply couldn't understand why we couldn't commit the time (we're on vacation to relax... not to be subjected to an extended sales pitch). That being said, we learned sales pictures are the status quo in PV - we noticed these high pressure tactics in most public places (the airport, walking on the boardwalk, shopping in stores, etc).

We stayed at the hotel from Oct 19 to 26 2012 - our trip was wonderful. We travel to Mexico a few times a year, mostly to the Cancun side, but we loved this area too. It was a slow time for this area of Mexico so a smaller resort was just fine. If this hotel was full, you may have issues with the pool chair game and finding a spot at the beach, etc.

Here are the pros:
- great location, close to the airport, you and walk all around Nuevo with ease and feel very safe.
- smaller hotel so you can walk around to everything in 5 min
- rooms are big, nice bathroom and the beds are pretty good for Mexico( we were on the 3rd floor near the elevator i think floor 5 would have a better view)
- the staff are excellent. they are new so some are still learning but very accommodating and willing to please. our bartender Benji was great - the beach bar at night was an eclectic mix of people and mixology.
- value was great, we booked with Sunquest and paid less than 1500 for both of us all in (flights, transfers, etc). $100 a day is less than I can live on at home - LOL! Honestly, I would not pay more than $1000 for this hotel.
- Beach is great, very clean and lots of beach chairs and little grass huts.

Here are the cons:
- Food, it was ok but not great. I did not care as I had fruit, salads, fish and yummy desserts at the buffet. But my boyfriend got sick of the same things at dinner and the Mexican food was crap! But because we got such a great deal we ate out a few times for supper - in La Cruz (a small town a short cab ride away) and in PV.
- Music at the pool got your nerves after a few days.

Tips:
- bring your own travel mug, your drinks will stay cold
- take a cab ride to the town of La Cruz, there are many Canadians and great places to eat and take in some local culture. ($14 cab ride)
- don't go shopping in PV on the days the cruise ships are in port they won't barter with you and you will pay more.
- my boyfriend went fishing and we later found out he could have hired a boat from the marina directly for half the cost - fish at the islands, don't troll it's not worth the time.
- we did 1 tour - Rhythms of the Night - great night, but if you get sea sick, stay on land!
- as for an ocean view room, on floor 4 or higher

Our family stayed here during the last week of July. We had booked two regular rooms to stay in. During check in we were asked if we were interested in upgrading to Royal Club for an extra $35 pp per day. We asked to go up to the top floor to have a look at the Royal amenities before deciding. Very modern looking decor and very quite lounge and dining area. We were offered the penthouse suite at no extra cost by the Royal concierge, she was very professional and friendly. Muchas gracias! Room was very spacious with 2 sleeping areas, a dining table, 2 bathrooms, and a large rooftop deck with a jacuzzi and a view to die for.I've uploaded pics of this. The dining room was very pleasant since it is the only airconditioned place to eat in the whole resort. Food and service were very good. It was also nice to have a private reserved section on the beach with loungers and sunbeds, never had to look for a place to sit. The rest of the resort has a definite lack of loungers for the guests. We tried the three regular places to eat at the resort and they were okay. The beach here was great, better than it is a kilometer or two further north. It is wide and has a shallow slope, great for water play. It was Stingray mating season, so there were hundreds of them frolicking in the ocean just a few paces from the water's edge. It was fun to watch them and have them swim around your legs. Remember to shuffle your feet when you walk and they will get out of your way, better than stepping on one! All in all it was an A-one vacation.

starting from checkin
smooth we were offered a drink and service was offered but we were travelling light. Room was average size room for mexico, clean, updated.
Washroom good size, great shower and good water pressure and lots of place to store stuff in the bathroom.
Oceanview room was not so much.
there was one major pool with no swim up bar, lounge chairs were plentiful and the pool opens early and closes late.
Buffet was good with a variety of national dishes if you are late food gets tried above average.
A la Cartes: italian night was great.
Activities very low key not much enthusiasm by the animation team but the resort was not nearly full. Beach volleyball court excellent but no one was playing nor waterpolo...Lame.
Bars: beach bar was great and staff were excellent. Lobby bar carlos great smile but didn't know alot of english but could whip up any drink Carlos ROCKs

Room Tip: Sea food burritos

We were there on our 30th Anniversary, we were treated very well, flowers to our hotel room which were very clean and roomy. The food at the buffet was very good and the staff excellent, nothing but great service. I would recommended to other people.

I have really enjoyed my stay in this hotel. Everybody working here was very nice and helpful. All rooms are new , newly furnished and I was very happy not to smell any mold, which can easily happen in this location. Hotel, rooms , outside property - all was clean all the time.
We loved the food in a buffet and the restaurant as well. Most of the people have all inclusive and it is nice that you can have not only the very cheap drinks but the real one as well.
You have many opportunities for sport activity and I enjoyed mostly boggy -boarding, which you can rent here for free as well.
I went for zip lining in the mountains - Predator place- amazing experience.
I can really recommend this hotel !

we were there for 3 weeks, Sept 29th - Oct 20th 2012 (I am here right now getting ready to leave).
Our overall impression was poor mainly because of a few incidents with the front desk. For example, an extended family member staying at a resort down the beach wanted to join us for dinner, the cost of a night pass was advertised at 45 USD (posted on their board for the past 2.5 weeks that we were there). A bit steep for the dinner but we decided to go for it, and then they changed the price on us to 55 USD and took down the sign. Not great customer relations.

Room - 3/5 - modern but NO balcony which we missed far more than we thought we would. Our AC unit was not working well so the room was a bit warm (we did not complain so cannot blame the hotel for this) - cigarette smoke smell into the room also over the last 2 days, must have been through the AC unit?
Food - 4/5 - I was quite happy with this but also am not too picky...a little repetitive after 3 weeks! Only 2 a la carte choices which were quite similar to the buffet. Generally excellent service in the restaurants.
Beach - 5/5 - very nice sand, clean, warm water, always could get a chair.
Pool - 3/5 - too small. very busy which meant the water was a bit questionable later in the day (smells, colour and floaters). Nice and warm though.
Amenities - 5/5 - bikes, boogie boards, surf boards, kayaks. Always seemed available.
Internet - 2/5 - WIFI available for 56 USD per week (also available daily and hourly)...using it right now. We were promised 15 min daily internet through Westjet vacations, we had to fight for this and were provided 15 min daily access to the Royal Club computer only after producing documentation of this from Westjet.

Summary - like the area, will book with another resort next time.
