We stayed 7 nights in this beautiful all inclusive resort from July 7th-14th 2012. We booked through Costco travel and after talking to other guest we found that we got a great deal. The grounds are exceptional and there are a variety of restaurants to choose from. The beach is the cleanest beach I have ever seen. There is always people making sure there isn't a speck of garbage. It reminded me of Disneyland. The best part of the resort is the people who work there. We fell in love with Vick with the entertainment team. He was always happy, upbeat and keeping us entertained. During the day laying by the pool or beach we had the best service ever by Fra(n)cisco. He was the hardest working employee who never stopped moving and making sure our stay was perfect. At night we would go to the sky bar to see our favorite lady Betty. She was always smiling and making us feel good. I have been several places and had many wonderful vacations and besides my honeymoon this was the best. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation.

We have chosen to stay at Dreams because of the great reviews. We stayed at the resort from 07/07/12 -07/13/12 with two kids.
Amenities: Property is pretty, plenty of pools. Pools are not the cleanest, no water slides, no swim up bars, just very simple set up. Room was spacious and comfortable for a family of four. We had a queen bed, full bed and have asked for additional roll away bed and still have plenty of room for four people. Conditioner in the room did not work well it blowed cold air but we still felt humidity and after while felt like changing clothes. Beds and sheets kept smelling sweaty even after we asked to change sheets few times.

Food: I would say that food was the worst part of the vacation. World Cafe was the only option for breakfast. For lunch there were three restaurants available: World Cafe which menu hardly changed through out the days and was not tasty at all. Oceana restaurant was located outside and food was not good there plus it was hot and humid, full of mosquitos, flies and birds. Seaside Grill was next to Oceana restaurant outside as well and had a junk food option. For dinner there were 5 restaurants available two of them were outside (Oceana and Seaside Grill) was not an option for us since we were eaten by the mosquitos. Portofino Italian was the best option for the food, but no kids were allowed there. We ate there one night and it was good. El Patio was the next best option, had beef fillet there and it was tasteless and overcooked. Our whole family had a stomach ache almost after every meal, I am not exaggerating! We are back home and still feeling stomach distress.

We have done many all-inclusive resorts in the last 7 years in Puerto Vallarta and Cancun. So we are looking at our stay at the Dreams Nuevo Vallarta through the prism of experiences that we had prior with other resort’s.

Executive Summary:
-Rooms: Very Good
-Beach: Good for Puerto Vallarta area
-Food: Bad
-Service: Average
-Entertainment: Below Average
-Would stay here again, recommend to a fiend: No

Now the details:

We traveled to Dreams Nuevo Vallarta in July of 2012 my wife and I with two children: 7 and 12 year old. One aspect of this resort that is different from all other places we have stayed is that the closest 3 buildings to the ocean are not part of the resort, they are condos (not time share) with private ownership. The two 9-story buildings furthest away from the beach are where you could be staying. Since there is an equivalent of owner association for these condos that jointly with the resort controls the property, certain activities that may interfere with the rest and quite of the condo owners are not permitted closer to the beach area later at night. One of the two buildings that are part of the resort faces toward the beach with first floors giving you a partial ocean view, in our case only about 5% of the view was ocean, the rest palm trees and the resort grounds, the higher floors give you full ocean view. The second building faces toward the mountains.

The rooms were the largest that we have stayed in, we were comfortable with us and two kids, each child having a separate bed (one roll-away). Rooms are modern and nice, but not very clean. Some covers and chairs had stains, not acceptable in any hotel/resort. The only other complaint about the room was that it felt very humid inside, typically AC dehumanizes the air, but while the temperature was maintained at comfortable 75, it felt muggy.

The beach was good for Puerto Vallarta area, sand was fine with practically no rocks. The ocean was somewhat stormy all 6 days of our stay and the water warm, but muddy. In contrast with Cancun beaches, muddy water was our experience staying in Puerto Vallarta other times, during the rainy season. Rivers that run down to the ocean bring a lot of mud from the mountains and the entire Puerto Vallarta bay is muddy. Some areas more than others, the beach next to the hotel was actually better than other parts of the bay. There were few waiters at the beach asking if you would like drinks, but there weren’t enough of them and in contrast to our stay at Vallarta Palace, at the Dreams, they did not offer any snacks or food. There were boogie boards available at the resort, but sometimes there weren’t enough of them and we had to come back few times before being able to get them.

Also at the beach, one could rent jet ski from a third party for about $50 per half an hour, we were able to get 45 minutes for $70. That was a fun experience. There was also parasailing and banana boat rides available at the beach from third party private vendors.

Now, about the food, it was the most disappointing part of our experience. Out of all all-inclusive resorts we have stayed prior in Mexico (Marina El-Cid, Palace, Iberostar, RIU and Marival Residence), the food was the worst in terms of quality, cleanest and selection. We have read the reviews both before purchasing this vacation and after we came back and just cannot reconcile good food testimonials on the Trip Advisor and our actual experience. Having been there, we can’t believe that anyone regardless of personal taste would find this food good. It is possible that the food used to be better other years, but any positive food testimonials for the Summer of 2012 could only be a marketing campaign but the Dream chain itself.

Out of 5 restaurants, cafes, the absolutely worst one was the “World Cafe”. Selection and food quality was terrible. Unfortunately, that was the only dining available for breakfast and for lunch, unless one wanted to use outdoor Seaside/Oceana (for lunch), which was very uncomfortable in hot humid July.

For dinner, Seaside was good, not great, but hot July steered us away from that option after just one dinner. The Mexican El Patio was good, not great and we have used it most of the time. One time, when it rained, had to wait about 45 minutes to get in. The Italian Portofino was adults only and we used it only once. The food was just a bit better than in El Patio, but not five stars either.

One interesting exception was 7/10/12, we saw many more employees in blue jackets (probably management) that day. The “World Cafe” started offering sushi made to-order, a grill was set up outside, grilling kebabs and vegetables. The food was noticeably better. Next day, it was back to “normal”.

It was evident that most of the staff at the restaurants and elsewhere in the resort was really trying, but really didn’t have a well-defined organization and management behind it to make your stay more enjoyable. Few examples: the empty drink bottles weren’t picked up from a box next to the room for 4 days. With 4 people in the room, every day we have ran out of towels and had to ask to have them replaced.

The entertainment was severely lacking during the day, our 12-year old was bored most of the time. They really need to make a little more effort to have activities that are interesting and also make an effort to let people know what is going on, get them engaged as it is done in other resorts. At night, entertainment was good several days, but few days we just walked out (e.g. Latino Idol). We would give it 3.5 out of 5.

There was a paid Internet access (WiFi) available, we have paid $40 for 4 days. The connection was horrific, very slow, not worth the money, it might be better to use cellular data roaming instead.

We have done a Wild ATV Tour in the hills of Nuevo Vallarta (was so so) and a Las Caletas tour with Vallarta Adventures (was very good).
In conclusion we would say that while we have heard good feedback for the Dreams chain, given our experience at this location we would not stay there again and at any other Dreams resort.

Room Tip: Partial ocean view is very (5% partial).

Dreams Villamagna is the best resort I have ever stayed at! Upon arriving we to the resort we were welcomed to "Our Home Away From Home" and offered a nice cold drink. We were then escorted to the front desk to check in. We were fortunate to pay a small upgrade cost to to be located on the club floor, it was worth every penny!! The views from our floor were just stunning! The rooms were large, clean and very comfortable. Anna Marie our House Keeper did a fantastic job in keeping the room clean. There were a few reviews mentioning the A/C, however, our room the A/C was fantastic and even in the plus 35-39 degree weather, the room was always cold. We checked in on June 30, 2012 which just happened to be the day before the President Election in Mexico and we were fortunate to be allowed to have liquor, the bars were closed for the following 2 nights (there is a law in Mexico that prevents liquor from being sold and bars closed during a President Election) and we ended up staying at the resort during these evenings. The resort does have a quiet hour after 10:30 PM as there are condos onsite however, during those 2 nights we had an opportunity to meet Betty at the sky bar who was phenomenal and really made our trip a delight! The pools and beach are pristine and the food was delicious. We had an opportunity to try all the restaurants and room service. Portofino and El Patio were our favourite. The buffet was also a great surprise and Jesus our service always went out of his way to ensure our meal was fantastic.

We never had an opportunity to use the Spa at Dreams Villamagna, but we heard that the Spa was quite nice!( I did have an amazing massage at Patty's spa located just down the beach. For $550 pesos total ($45) my partner had I got each a 1 hr massage by the beach. We enjoyed it so much we went daily!)

We also had the opportunity to take in the 4th of July party that the resort hosted. All day the staff worked hard in setting up quite the party by the beach. When the event started later in the evening there was a live band, row upon row of foods and great decor. The night finished with fireworks from the beach!

In conclusion, Dreams Villamagna was phenomenal. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Can not wait to go back!

Room Tip: UPGRADE to Club Floor- worth every penny!!!

When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by not one, not two, but three staff, our luggage was taken and immediately delivered to our room, we were handed iced, perfumed, moist towels, and brought drinks all before we had made it across the hall to the concierge's desk.
We didnt lift a finger our entire stay. The service here went beyond all-inclusive, it was as if they could read our minds. The hotel staff we're literally family by the time we left this paradise. Geyvi, was phenomenal! If you get a chance, seek her out and start a conversation, it pays off knowing her. Atef, Annabelle, and the plethora of other lobby helpers were incredible.
Our wedding was beautifully arranged, and the staff made us feel as if we were the only people on the entire planet. My bride was even greeted by an entire lobby full of applause as she made the journey from our hotel room to the aisle.
The unlimited beverages were made strong, and from premium alcohol. And the food... oh my the food. If the rest of this vacation was simply average (which it was not) the food alone would have made it outstanding. Raul, our server at Portofino ( the inclusive Italian restaurant) provided the best service we had ever experienced, even when compared to the best restaurants back home. Anything you could imagine on the menu, including caviar, escargot, ect. Hugo, the maitre d' was phenomenal as well, always greeting us by name, and with a smile.

So I don't ramble, I'll stop here. I haven't yet mentioned the incredible pools, pool side service, free sushi bar on the roof, beautiful beach, or Jacuzzis on the balconies overlooking breathtaking views.

All I will say is GO HERE, they deserve your business, and you deserve this resort!
.

Room Tip: As high as possible, doesn't matter where, they're all amazing
