LOCATION-An hour or so from Dumaguete Airport on paved provincial roads. You can see Apo Island directly across from the resort. A quiet spot off the main road with a gate and guard.
FACILITIES-Seeing as the resort doesn’t allow guests below 10 years old and yet the bottom of the pool had Disney’s Little Mermaid design, I can only assume that it was once somebody’s family beachside mansion that they decided to convert into a resort. The no-shoes reception is right next to the open kitchen, directly next to the pool. Everything is kept neat. Pool was clean and pool towels were in good shape. They had water dispensers for guests to use instead of plastic water bottles in the room; why can’t more resorts do this? The shower gel and shampoo were in big dispenser bottles as well.
Well-kept lawn area with green grass and several couches and a hammock to lounge in. Don’t expect a white sandy beach; it’s grey sand and full of rocks so bring your aquashoes. You’ll likely use it as a jump off point for water activities elsewhere anyway.
ROOMS-Tastefully decorated in minimalist beach chic. Surprisingly big bathroom and a long shower stall. Good water pressure, hot and cold water working perfectly. Nicely finished and good smelling bathroom. Blackout curtains on the sliding entance doors if you wanted to sleep in. TV channels all working, reception was clear.
I also liked the fact that towels were color-coded per area (pool, room etc) so guests know they’re not supposed to bring/use towels from different areas.
We were staying at a ground floor room and every so often we could hear water gurggling or pouring from above. I don’t know if the upstairs room’s plumbing system was somehow connected to our room. It wasn’t annoying, just very odd!
FOOD-Hotel/resort prices but big servings. Euro-US fare. They recommend to order in advance as they’re not resto-cooks that can prepare food in a flash. Even breakfast the following day can be ordered in advance, which cuts your waiting time but kills spontenaity :)
SERVICE-Kitchen service aside, everyone is prompt and early. Tour leaves on time, booked transfer van is there before the designated time. The ladies in the kitchen and reception are lovely, as were the boat crew.
TOUR-We availed of the Apo Island Snorkling Tour and shared a boat with a group of Discove Scuba Divers. I observed their foreign divemaster (who sort of doubled as the boat tour guide as well) was helpful to his group but didn’t make small talk or make an effort to chat with them or the other guests.
The boat crew were respectful and professional. They knew where to go to spot the turtles. First snorkelling spot and we already hit the turtle jackpot!
Food on board was packed well. Towels used were clean and a bit worn. They also came in different sizes and colors, which surprised me considering how organized their towel game was on land.
I’d recommend it as it’s a good base for diving/snorkelling activities and a quiet place to unwind afterwards ( maybe the no one below 10 years old adds to the quiet!). The great staff is also a bonus.
