“Snorkel with charming Byron!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

We had a wonderful Snorkel and Whale/Turtle Watching Tour with Byron. He really
loves what he does and it's fun to go on a boats tour with him. He knows his way around and showed us some lovely little beaches. We recommend a small group. You contact him over Hotel Angel del Mar.

“Funky? Not really.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2013

Ahh Zipolite!!! A cool funky place to hang out? It all depends on your particular point of view. Many years ago I visited this beach for a short while, almost drowned in the many undercurrent of the bay and put it down to " yeah, hey that was cool" and continued on. Today, many years later on a two day stay in the area,I wasn't impressed on the same level. Sure the beach is pretty much the same, but the type of organized lodging(or lack thereof) with prices that will surprise many is something to be desired. Some of the places I see on-line boasting 3-4 stars are nothing more than very basic shacks with little or no infrastructure with the resulting odours that accompany this type of construction. Visited some of these 3-4 rated places and for what you get and what you pay........I was surprised, no shocked. What a rip! Two small rooms with the bano in one little corner, a two burner stove and rudementry kitchen and the asking price is $1000.00/month-U.S.? Yikes, did I miss something here? Don't know how the "Hippie-types" can afford some of these places unless they're getting supported from some other means. But I digress; If in the future, and if Zipolite Beach somehow gets their infrastructure plan in place it could be a nice place, but right now it looks like the "build it now and see what happens" attitude is prevailing. Good Luck Zipolite!

“Great beach, relaxed, and not too naked:)”

Great for relaxed, open minded couples, not good swimming for kids, dangerous currents. Good restaurants, great michiladas.

“Zipolite: Great Beach Town, Mediocre Naturist Destination”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

Zipolite is one of the few clothing optional beaches in Mexico. As a vacation, I highly recommend it if you can speak some Spanish. Aside form the beach, there isn't much else. There are decent restaurants, mostly Italian or Mexican, and some touristy shops. Beware that amenities can be sparse: There is no ATM in town and our bungalow did not have hot water. So if basic living isn't your cup of tea, I don't recommend it. My wife and i, however, didn't want to end the vacation.

As a naturist destination, Zipolite is mediocre. It's a public beach, so anyone can walk on, and almost no one goes fully nude. I'd say only 20% of the women go topless. Men go topless, of course. If you do want to go nude, it will all depend on how comfortable you are in your own skin around textile people.
