“Fun again...”

This was our 10th stay at the Sonoran Sea, and a few things have changed. There is now a little water slide for kids under 12 at one pool, and they no longer allow people to play games on the grassy area in front of the condos. We were not allowed to set up our bean bag game, which made us very sad, and they also made some kids quit throwing a football because of the pointed ends? This trip set an all time record for the amount of children under 12 that I have seen there. If lots of kids drive you nuts, then this is not the place for you. There wasn't as much security as in the past, and when they went on break, the pool got a bit wild with kids jumping off the rocks, etc. . The swim up bar is always good, and the people that work there are so great! The condo was really nice, no issues other than low water pressure that seems to be standard in that part of the country. Someone in another review mentioned having to get extra toilet paper - we just bring extra from home. From the grandkids to the grandparents, we all had a fun time!

Room Tip: The lower your room is, the noisier it is from the pool and bar. However, the top rooms catch the wi...

Stayed for three nights at the Sonoran Sea, and was disappointed. The pros and the cons:
Pros: Oceanfront

Cons: Rooms worn, water not filtered, service terrible (had to go to the desk for toilet paper, room not ready until 530p despite 4pm check-in time).

I stayed previously at Las Palomas and found it to be a far better resort.

Room Tip: If you have children, beware! I didn't have my boys with me, but if I had, the low height of th...

We booked with an agency for a 1 bedroom condo. When we arrived, they did have our reservation but no specific unit had been assigned. I told the agent that I prefer a deluxe resort and that I was quite particular. The units that they showed us were furnished with old furnishings, looked like they had emptied their homes and bought new stuff and sent the old things to Rocky Point. This is not a deluxe resort or condo. No disposals. No towels at the pool. It had a lovely pool area with a swim up bar. We wish we hadn't been below the pool bar because it was party central til 10 P.M. every nite. Perhaps the west building would be better and quieter. We finally met a lady who owned a unit and she said "we are leaving, if you would like our 2 bdrm, we would let these people have it for the 1 bdrm rate. It was number 804E and it was furnished very nicely, so I would recommend that unit, but be careful just renting blindly. I would rent from VRBO so that you have an opportunity to see what you are renting. We booked through sonoranseacondo.com/rockypoint and Darrell assured me that we would have a well-appointed unit. He cannot make that guaranty. We would not book through them again. If you are looking for a fine location, almost on top of the beach, this is it. It is more like a motel 6 than a Marriott.

Room Tip: If we could have found a nice unit on the west side, I think it would be quieter. We prefer the Son...

We usually stay in all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, but due to the prices of flights this spring break decided to drive down to Puerto Panasco instead. We stayed at the Sonoran Sea Resort which is one of several Sonoran Resorts in the Rocky Point area. We were very impressed. The rooms were clean with a full compliment of appliances including dishwasher, and cloths washer and dryer. All the rooms faced the beach and pool areas with balconies. The room finishes were nice with granite counter tops and travertine in the shower. The room we stayed in had a couch sleeper and a separate bedroom. This was nice to have the privacy away from the kids. The swim-up pool bar was nice and reasonable priced. We went into town and for $100 bough enough food for breakfast and lunch everyday for 7 days. We were also able to get rum and tequila cheap in town and ordered virgin drinks at the pool bar and mixed our own drinks at the pool. Saved us a ton. The only complaints about the pools was that the only one that was heated was small, but it did have the swim-up bar. The other pools were beautiful and would have been great if they had been heated. Needless to say that most of he resort guests swam in the small heated pool. It was a little cramped at times. The beach was clean and expansive. The water was cold but clear and lots of fun shells. There was plenty of beach activities available for an extra fee. Crossing the border in Arizona was a breeze and we had no issues. We would certainly consider this trip again and would like to try some of the other Sonoran Resorts including the new Sonoran Sky. They all looked nice from the beach.

Only a 4 hour drive from Phoenix, Rocky Point is the closest beach destination for us. It is a hidden paradise in Mexico. The prices are cheap and the beach is GORGEOUS.....so much nicer than the California beaches. The water is warm. There are jet skis and banana boat rides to rent for a reasonable prices. The Sonoran Sea Resort is top notch, beautiful granite counter tops, nice furniture and decorations. You have a gorgeous view of the beach and pool from every room. You sea dolphins everday jumping around and can hop on the banana boats to get a closer view. We never have a complaint when we visit any of the Sonoran resorts. They do have a laundry room in eah unit, so be prepared to wash your own towels. Love this though because my laundry is always done before I get home.

I just recently got back from staying three nights, four days at Sonoran Sea. As has been mentioned before, most, if not all, of these condos are privately owned and are rented out. We stayed at the Penthouse on the 10th floor and had an awesome view of the ocean and down to the pool. Our patio was a very good size and included in built-in bbq. Most of these condos come with flatware, bowls, plates, cups, pans, etc. We brought food from the US and also went to the local grocery store next to the Sam's Club to buy some meat to grill (I forgot the name of the store). The condo had a full size kitchen, so we made most of our food. We mostly stayed at the resort and only left the premises two times to run to the grocery store. The mini-convenience store next to the lobby is open from 9am-5pm, but the selection isn't very large.

Our AC wasn't working very well our first day there, but the maintenance man was quick to respond and fixed it. I would recommend this place. The people were friendly and we enjoyed the stay... there are the occassional people who've had too much to drink and start talking loud, but as long as you don't go looking for trouble, everything should be fine. We did stay mostly at the resort due to the travel warnings. The few times we went to town, we did not once feel un-safe. But as always, it is good to be aware of all your surroundings.

Coming into town, there was a checkpoint where the local municipal police were checking all the vehicles. We had to wait 40-45 mins because they were checking every single car coming and leaving the town. I take this as a good sign, I just didn't like that we had to wait in our cars for 40-45 mins. However, when we came back to the US, there was no check-point, so I'm guessing these checkpoints are random.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 10th floor penthouse, and I think we were the only ones on the floor. We did occasi...

Overall the condo was nice with all amenities. When we experienced a few issues, maintenance was prompt to address the problem.
Unfortunately, we discovered that the on-site restaurant was CLOSED during part of the week. The resort mini-mart must close by 9pm nightly as well, so if you're looking for a bite to eat, a trip into town was necessary. The swim up bar was also closed during part of our trip. Perhaps "off days" early in the week they choose not to staff it but when we're on vacation, a drink or snack would be ideal not just on particular days.

And finally, shoes were a MUST while wading in the tide because we saw tons of broken glass.
