Playa Bonita Beach is also known as Sandy Beach. Super-wide and clean sand. They comb and clean it daily. A good time to walk down it is at low tide when the tidal pools are filled with little marine critters skittering around. The water is warm pool-like in the summer. A great time to get in is at night in late summer when the photo plankton light up all around you and you glow. Of course, it makes it easier for the sharks to see you, too. Nah, just kidding about that. No sharks, just a great experience.

Three words: Gold Coast Shrimp. Perfectly cooked bacon wrapped shrimp with a rich cheese sauce, vegetables, and rice.Decadent, oh yes! This is our favorite dish in Puerto Penasco, and Playa Bonita is our favorite place to order it. Yummy!

Not a great beach with loads of people bothering you and junk for sale all at super high prices... Not much for swimming since it is rocky and dirty. This is not the part of Mexico to see....

Easy drive from Arizona or Southern California, but by far the biggest scam city in Mexico for travelers.

This is the nicest beach in town and it's also where all the resorts are. It's almost impossible to get to if you don't stay at a resort, though. There is a public parking area at the end of 18th st where you can go down to the beach and then walk to a nice spot. If you have a 4x4 vehicle you might be able to go over some dunes and reach an undeveloped area, though.

Stay on Sandy Beach or farther south at Las Conchas. This is the locals beach, so you can get decent prices on hair braiding if your kid is interested in that.
