The staff is always friendly, the beach is gorgeous, took a fantastic day boat trip to Bird Island, played tennis and golf and loved having happy hour and lunch served on the beach. The kids kept busy with pool activities, and my teenage son loved working out at the gym. Also had a fantastic massage at the spa. One of the best family vacations for us, an easy drive from Phoenix, and a private, beautiful beach. Met lots of other nice families while there.

My husband and I traveled to the Mayan Palace with another couple and drove from Phoenix, AZ. I was weary about crossing the border, we went through Sonoyta and it was so easy and uneventful. Just perfect and put our mind at ease about the rest of the trip. Puerto Penasco is roughly 1 hour from the border and the Mayan Palace was just a little further. We knew the resort had small kitchens so we stopped at the Sams Club to pick up some items. We also loaded up on some booze and food and put it in a cooler before we left Phoenix which I highly recommend because even though the Sams Club is there, food is different and packaged different in Mexico and there is not all the variety so grab your junk food in the states (cookies, chips, cheese, sandwich meat, etc).
Our friends have a timeshare so we split the cost at the resort, it was super cheap and we got a suite so we each had our own rooms so it could have technically slept 10. It was a lot of living space for the 4 of us so we had privacy, our own bathrooms, great air conditioning, our own balconies, an a living room and kitchenette. We had great service from all the staff and they really are accommodating. We did go to the timeshare presentation and it took a while but was worth it for the discounts, if you're fairly assertive they get the drift and move you right along. The boys got golf at the Jack Nicklaus golf course for $50 a round and we got spa massages and facials for $50 each. It was wonderful! We went to the spa 3x for services and the boys went golfing 4x during our stay. It couldn't have been more luxurious! We dined at the restaurant (highly recommend) snack bar, made breakfast and lunches in our room (however, the fridge is small so take items that are non perishable), we drank a ton of booze at the pool and bars they have good happy hour and service. It was a little pricey but well worth it to get the full VIP treatment. We loved that it was kind of secluded, we didn't feel the need to leave the resort ever with the beach at our doorstep. We went into town one time to check it out but couldn't wait to return to the Mayan Palace. We can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor and a "remodeled" room closer to the indoor pool side of...

I really expected more from the hotel. We went there because my grandparents love golf, and they have a golf course there. We stayed in December so as we thought it would still be warm enough to go to the pool often, it wasn't. This is partially our fault, but we thought there would be other activities to do. If you don't go when it's warm there is literally nothing to do. The cinema was broken the whole time we stayed there, no one was around, and to you had to travel on dirt road for about 30 minutes to get near to any restaurants, so I advise to eat early to avoid driving at night time. We decided to leave early. Had a full body massage which was great! I would recommend to get the discount once you first arrive and treat yourself. The photo's I've uploaded do show how beautiful the hotel was though, it really was. I was content to just sit by the pool for a couple hours (with a blanket). Was a great place to visit but wouldn't go again.

Room Tip: Go when the weather is hot, otherwise there is NOTHING to do!

We have been to the Mayan Palace numerous times over the past 8 years. We were originally Mayan Palace members but upgraded at this resort about two years ago to the Grand Mayan. The Grand Mayan is still not ready, but the Mayan Palace 2 bedroom master suite is still a great place for our family. We vacationed there again during the week of June 15th, and had a wonderful time with our family and friends. Check-in was fast and we were greeted by familiar friendly faces - Mayra and Armando. They have always been very courteous and efficient. We were quickly assigned to an ocean front 2 bedroom master suite on the third floor. We were then invited to participate in the owners update by another welcoming face Alejandro. We decided to participate as we wanted to find out if the Grand Mayan was still in progress. The owners update was very informative, and it ONLY took us 130 minutes including the complimentary and delicious breakfast buffet. We were assigned to Francisco D. during our owners update and he was very good about respecting our time and keeping his presentation as close to the 90 minutes. He did go 40 minutes over, but we felt more informed about our timeshare. We never felt pressured, and he understood we were firm about not upgrading. Overall, our week stay was very enjoyable and relaxing due to the weather, beach, and wonderful staff at the Mayan Palace. Daniel our bartender was always attentive as well as Carlos at the Bakal Restaurant. The activities staff made the week enjoyable with the aqua aerobics, karoke, and evening beach parties. We were having such a great time that we requested to stay an additional night. Although they were booked for weddings, Mr. Francisco the cordial manager was able to assist us. We stayed an additional night in our same suite for an extra fee. We make the most of our vacation and can't wait to go back to this special place with special people.

Room Tip: Be courteous to the staff.

very far out of town. no easily available transportation. outrageous food prices in main dining room. rooms not up to par for luxury hotel-very small decks. very bad time share presentation. shell game presentations and they wouldn't take no for an answer. have heard good things about Mayan Palace but this one is a disaster to me.
Go to Sandy Beach in Penasco.

Room Tip: go somewhere else!

This was our second trip back after almost six years and things have changed since our last visit. First, the presence of the Mexican army is everywhere, from the town's entry point to late night car checks at the resort entrance. You get the feeling that the Mexican government is NOT going to let the drug cartels get ANY foothold in the tourist towns which is a good thing but at times a little unnerving. The resort has held up pretty well over the last six years but new construction has slowed. New flights from Las Vegas are nice but pricey so this may still remain a secret place for Arizonan's for awhile but with airfares going up in Mexico, driving down from Phoenix or Tucson maybe financially smart.

Room Tip: Plead with whoever checks you in to get a room facing the ocean. It's worth the begging!

Very beautiful place to be. The wind made the waves larger which was a plus! Not windy all the time. The full moon at night glisten on the ocean was beautiful. The grand Mayan rooms were nice and big. The only negative I have to say is they need to finish the other buildings built like the grand bliss or other. Other than that amazing place
