very far out of town. no easily available transportation. outrageous food prices in main dining room. rooms not up to par for luxury hotel-very small decks. very bad time share presentation. shell game presentations and they wouldn't take no for an answer. have heard good things about Mayan Palace but this one is a disaster to me.
Go to Sandy Beach in Penasco.

Room Tip: go somewhere else!

This was our second trip back after almost six years and things have changed since our last visit. First, the presence of the Mexican army is everywhere, from the town's entry point to late night car checks at the resort entrance. You get the feeling that the Mexican government is NOT going to let the drug cartels get ANY foothold in the tourist towns which is a good thing but at times a little unnerving. The resort has held up pretty well over the last six years but new construction has slowed. New flights from Las Vegas are nice but pricey so this may still remain a secret place for Arizonan's for awhile but with airfares going up in Mexico, driving down from Phoenix or Tucson maybe financially smart.

Room Tip: Plead with whoever checks you in to get a room facing the ocean. It's worth the begging!

Very beautiful place to be. The wind made the waves larger which was a plus! Not windy all the time. The full moon at night glisten on the ocean was beautiful. The grand Mayan rooms were nice and big. The only negative I have to say is they need to finish the other buildings built like the grand bliss or other. Other than that amazing place

Arrived on a Thursday evening and was given our choice of two 2BR suites. Chose a 1st floor unit in Phase 2 which provided a much larger patio with an ocean view. We are owners and although this was our first stay at this property, we have stayed at 3 other Mayan properties. The pool area is a bit underwhelming compared to other Mayan properties, but the beach is amazing. Didn't eat at any of the restaurants on the property as we brought our own groceries from Tucson. Kitchen is a bit small, but adequate. Suggest bringing an electric griddle as the 2 burners are small. Activities on the beach via EcoFun for adults and children. Checked out the golf facilities and chatted with a few of the golfers. All stated course was beautiful, but the wind made it extremely challenging. Employees were very friendly. 20 mile drive into old town for shopping and restaurants was an easy commute.

Room Tip: Phase 2 - 1st floor oceanfront has oversized patio. Phase 2 is newer than Phase 1, but not connected to main building.

Very well kept Vacation Condo. We enjoyed our week stay. Has a nice golf course. The food was good. Caught fish and the hotel cooked them to order for a small fee. You can walk out a long way during low tide and see a lot of sea creatures in the sand.

Room Tip: Ask for an Ocean veiw in adavance, by sending emails.
