The Mayan Palace is located on a huge, expansive beach with miles and miles of shoreline with loads of shells. It is a bit isolated from the main Puerto Penasco, which is great if this is what you are looking for; however, if not, then expect a 30-minute drive to either Sandy Beach where all the other large resorts are clustered, or to the Old Port, which has lots of bars, restaurants, shopping. The grounds are gorgeous and very well groomed. The staff is constantly around the resort ensuring everything is impeccable, as you can tell by the way the resort is maintained.
The rooms are large and clean—we had a 2 bedroom, which was plenty of space for our family of five. The beds were pretty hard and firm, which was okay for me, but maybe not for others. The kitchen was terrible—that would probably be the biggest drawback—tiny little dorm-like refrigerator and tiny little 2-burner hotplate, which made meal preparation pretty much impossible. The food at the resort was awesome, but very pricey for Mexico (American prices). Each room had a large flat screen TV which was great. The cleaning staff left our room spotless every day and left us a new towel animal every day as a surprise for the kids. We did continue to have a fruit fly issue every day, but the staff was very responsive in coming with spray as needed.
The staff is amazing. Every single person goes above and beyond to serve you and attend to every need. They will go all the way out to the beach back and forth all day to bring you drinks, food, anything. Very friendly, genuine, seem truly happy to be working at this resort. The activities coordinators, Nacho, Pancho, and Jessica, are outstanding. They are full of personality and just fun and entertaining. They coordinate activities for the guests all day long into the night—karaoke, volleyball, Mexican bingo, water aerobics, blackjack, trivia night. The Mexican Fiesta Buffet and Show was well worth the money spent –the food was incredible, and the show was every entertaining and a cultural experience. They also have an Eco-Fun Tour company on site that offers boats excursions, snorkeling, and trampoline jumping for the kids. Again, it is pricey, but if you attend a sale presentation you get a bit of a discount off these activities. The boat excursion out to Bird Island was worth every dime. Open bar, lunch, kayaking and snorkeling right off the boat up close and personal with the dolphins and sea lions. Dorali was one of the EcoFun staff on our boat excursion, and she was a lot of fun and highly personable to everyone, which made for a very fun experience.
Overall, we had an amazing experience at the Mayan Palace. It was a great use of our timeshare week. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would go back again.
