We stayed here in March 2013 in the Santa Rosalia room. The hotel will remind you of an old hacienda in the early 20th century, with low-slung long buildings made with whitewashed bricks and a lengthy ramada in front and large common areas. Pros: Rustic charm in the rooms with solid wood furniture and stone accents, fireplace, tile floors, king bed with nice firm mattress, good Saturday night pig-roast dinner, pool, large secure parking lot, staff eager to please. Cons: The bathroom was in terrible need of improvement with broken tile, worn plumbing fixtures, dirty grout and the faint sewer smell, which even permeated the room when we first entered. After airing out the room by opening the windows, the smell dissipated in the room and was barely noticeable in the bathroom but either still there or etched in our memory. I can't say whether the problem with the bathroom was unique to our room or not as I did not check out the other rooms. Internet was only available in the restaurant area and the signal was week. No TV. After staying at some wonderful places in Baja for less, the property seemed overpriced for what we got. I probably will look elsewhere for accommodations on my way back north.

Room Tip: Stay away from the Santa Rosalia room unless the bathroom has been updated.

We stayed at this hotel on March 6, 2013. We have been traveling down the Baja Peninsula for over 40 years and know this hotel well. It was quite the spot years ago and hosted many celebrities who would fly in on the private air strip. It has fallen on very hard times. We appeared to be the only guests besides one young man from Canada. The room was extremely dated and not so clean with several dead cockroaches around. Nonetheless, the staff remains very friendly and Don Johnson seems to be hanging in there to keep his hotel alive.

Husband and I on last leg of journey to La Paz driving from Canada. We had read about this hotel on Tripadvisor and decided to give it a whirl.
In truth she is a bit run down, but clean with ever friendly staff.
We were lucky to see a plane land with some Nevada visitors who stopped by for some Margueritas on their wzy to Loreto.
The Margueritas WERE excellent and we enjiyed quite a few outside by the fountains.
Room was very rustic with 2 beds . Large shower with a couple of air dried towels.
Travelling with 2 dogs who were allowed in the room and enjoyed being with us on cool tiled floors.
We paid 780 pesos for the night and 38 pesos for 2 pig roasts. Included a free marguerita and food was again quite basic.
She is an old classic and we were glad we dropped by. Perhaps a cheaper off season rate would attract more visitors.

This was a bucket list trip to drive the entire Baja peninsula and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I had stayed at the Hotel Serenidad many times in the 80s and 90s, arriving by private aircraft to the hotel's well-maintained airstrip. Completion of the highway from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas in the 70s opened Baja up to auto travel, replacing the former access that was primarily aviation oriented. Hotel Serenidad was a hub of activity 30 years ago and we were pleased to see that the feeling of old Baja still lives here. Not as many planes land any more and the hotel has not really been updated since then, but we admire Hotel Serenidad for maintaining the old outpost feeling. Rooms are dated but clean, and the food is really quite good. We spent two nights here on cold evenings, and enjoyed sitting in front of the nice fire, sipping on margaritas and munching on fresh seafood.

Stay here, and take in the feeling of what Baja used to be. Owner/manager Don Johnson is still alive and kickin' and can fill you in on many stories of the good old days.

Hotel Serinidad is a lovely place to stay in Mulege. Yes, the rooms are a bit dated and they could use a face-lift, but they are clean and very large and the air conditioning works very well (sometimes a little too well). The grounds are spacious, well-maintained, and reflect the beauty of Baja. The staff couldn't be more friendly or accommodating. I was greeted with a cold Negro Modelo upon entering- after a 3 hour dusty drive, that was a welcome git. The bar is poolside and there are stools in the pool to sit on while enjoying the best Margaritas in Baja. You will not regret staying here.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely. You might ask to face the pool if you don't mind the sound of kids pl...

My fourth time here. It's Old Mexico to the max. The beds are set on bricks mortared into the floor, and it's the kind of hotel you want to shake the shower curtain before you get in, just to see if some kind of creature is hiding in it. Room prices, from $50 to $90 a night, depending on the type of room and the number of people seem just about right for what you get.

Made the mistake of booking the suite on a very hot day in Mulege. The single AC unit was just not capable of cooling it down. The staff moved us into a standard room without any fuss even after we stayed in the suite for several hours, waiting for it to get comfortable. The standard room cooled down just fine. WIFI in the lobby but not in most of the rooms.

On the plus side, the pool is clean and the swim-up bar is fun, although you're not going to mistake it for the Hilton in Maui. The food is always good. Pig roast on Saturday pulls a crowd. You can stay here for weeks on end without someone trying to sell you time share.

Unless you want to book a B&B or a boutique hotel weeks in advance, this is the only place to stay in Mulege, so accept it for what it is or keep driving south to Loreto or north to Santa Rosalia. Airstrip for small planes next to the hotel, but believe me, the air traffic won't keep you awake.

Room Tip: Rooms come in all shapes and sizes, from singles to barracks to bungalow. No matter how many of you...
