“Consistently excellent”

This is the third year running we have visited this restaurant and it just seems to get better every time. We went four times in our week's holiday and it was excellent on each occasion and we worked our way through most dishes on the menu! The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food great. The location is beautiful and the atmosphere is relaxed with a choice of eating in the bar or pub area. Both are nice but we preferred the intimacy of the restaurant. My only complaint is that we live too far away to visit every week but we will certainly be back!!

good food but small portion sizes. I would say they are a bit overpriced for what you get....especially being used to London prices. But good quality food, attention to detail, and very attentive and helpful staff. Would recommend and would go back. they allow dogs in one of their dining rooms which is great for dog owners holidaying in the area...even although a miserable couple adjacent us complained all through their dinner in loud voices about how disgusting and unnecessary it was to allow dogs in (get a life mate).

My Partner booked a table for my birthday lunch and it did not disappoint. The food was beautiful and the roast beef was perfect. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff were friendly and the owner is an absolute charmer. If you have a sweet tooth the desserts are heavenly, a little wooden cart piled high with everything you could possibly want. The portion sizes are huge, we had a little stroll around the gardens between our mains and dessert to make room! All in all a wonderful birthday lunch. Thank You for making it special (The homemade chocolates at the end in a little basket were the perfect final touch). Will definitely be back soon. x x

My wife and I spend an evening at the Punchbowl Inn and what a wonderful experience. We returned after a few visits in recent years and loved it (again). The food was some of the best I have tasted in years. I had the scallops, then guinea fowl and finished with the pistachio soufle; all superb as was my wife's meal. The one blot was serving the wrong wine but mistakes happen and the staff were brilliant. (They helped arranged a bouquet of flowers to be there when my wife arrived).

Room Tip: You will be spoilt for choice. The Danson room had beautiful views across the valley.

My wife and I travel extensively in UK and abroad, as writers and publishers, so I was disappointed, following apparent good reviews, to find the Puch Bowl food pretentious and overpriced, especially relative to the local, Lythe Valley competetion, some of which we also tried. For example, a goat's cheese starter, with a small amount of cheese and "green" decoration which added no more flavour at all. A lamb dish with 3 minute slices (equivalent to one decent sllice), one small piece of tasty fondant potato, and extra vegetables for which one had to pay extra. The chef may be "Young chef of the year" but visitors surely want a tasty and filling meal at the end of the day, especially at such inflated prices. Not quite a "Now let's go and get some fish and chips", but not too far off. I felt it a bit like a modern art experience, where the "experts" tell you that a work has great virtue, even if you don't see it yourself. In this case, we did not see it.

We were staying locally for a few days, our daughter recommended the Punch Bowl so we turned up early on a Sunday evening without a booking. The welcome was warm and friendly, we ate at a pleasant window table in the bar and had an exceptionally good meal. The menu was inviting and interesting, the food presentation was excellent and it tasted even better. Service was discreet and faultless. The chef here, I was told, is Scott Fairweather. He is clearly a very talented young man with a great future.
