“Perfect stopping off place on way to Scotland”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

We were looking for a classy little Inn with good food as an overnight stop off on our way to Scotland. We seem to have hit the jackpot!

Just literally minutes from the M6, the Punch Bowl Inn nestles in the hills above the lakes in the tiny village of Crosthwaite. Room was great - contemporary decoration, gorgeous bathroom and a view over the valley - it was idyllic after a long drive from London.

Seemed to be very popular, especially for dinner.

Great value for money.

We stayed here for a relaxing break in the lakes and were very impressed. On arrival we were greeted by Lorraine and given a guided tour. We were offered fresh coffee and scones and relaxed in the bar with the papers.
We had a small issue with the heat in the first room and Lorraine could have not been more helpful swiftly moving us and the room we were given could not be faulted. We would definitely stay here again as the facilities are first class and all the staff made sure we were well looked after. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant and the breakfast was great with a good choice not just the standard cooked breakfast.
We are already looking for an occasion to return ! .

Just returned from a 3 day stay at the Punch Bowl. The hotel was spotlessly clean with minute attention to detail. We could not fault the service of the staff, or the quality of food in the restaurant. We will certainly return

Lorraine, the manager was very welcoming and is very pretty to boot. She upgraded us to a room called Nobel which was extremely comfortable. The evening meal was great, as was the service. Wifi is limited and only available in the bar.

Room Tip: Ask for Noble

This is a perfect synthesis of friendly pub and top class restaurant. It is by no means cheap to eat here but you will know you have been treated by the end and the food is almost art on a plate. It is often fully booked so you need to ring early in the day. The staff are friendly, intelligent and well spoken. The food is as good as you can get in this part of the world and even if you are used to top end London eateries you will probably return. My meal included Black pudding on a bed of asparagus with a crispy hen's egg. Along with this came tiny crisp curls of pork rind and a dab of home made sauce. I followed with the loin of lamb which was trimmed, sliced, pink and succulent on a bed of peas and broad beans. Next to it was a tiny rectangular shepherd pie and a trio of perfectly sculpted carrots. My wife had beef carpaccio and the pork which once again were a feast for the eyes as well as the tongue. All this took place in a relaxed, warm atmosphere of a well appointed and spotlessly clean country pub with stunning views. Plenty of locals drink there and the bar is well stocked with wines and a range of unusual continental beers as well as the traditional ales the area loves to serve.

Despite the focus on food and its presentation it just feels like a celebration of ingredients and pride in the chefs craft. Not for one minute did any of it seem pretentious and though not massive the portions are just right if you have a dessert. I will be going back.

Just returned from a bank holiday break here. The view from the bedroom was truly stunning and matched by the beautiful rom. We loved the restaurant so much we dined there both nights. It is a truly beautiful little spot, fab food, views, rooms, decor and staff. Can't wait for an excuse to go back.

A lovely pub with an excellent choice of rooms. Ours had a large 4 poster bed and roll top bath. Excellent customer service with tea and coffee provided as well as turning down service. Lovely bar area and good choice on the menu although its a little pricey compared to other restaurants in the area
