We have just been on a weekend deal which we were really looking forward to but the room we were allocated number 36 was very small and tired but what we did not like was the very tired four poster bed which was very uncomfortable it took over the whole room the bathroom window was broken and the bedroom furniture was dated as we recognised the hotel was fully booked we endured a very uncomfortable and restless night as every time we moved the bed creaked the following morning we asked if we could move rooms the member of staff was very helpful and did her utmost to allocate us another room number 6 which was a great improvement the food in the bar we felt was very overpriced the breakfast was very tasty and we enjoyed the selection of fruits but the food on the buffet was a little to cold for us a big plus for this hotel was the excellent staff who tried their utmost to please and we're always very friendly

Spent a weekend with my wife on a "2 nights for the price of one" deal.
The deal included dinner on the first night (value of £29.99 per person) and breakfast both mornings.
Breakfast was hot, nice and offered everything you'd need for an artery clogging start to the day :)
Dinner was surprisingly good. We had starters of Belly Pork and pate, followed by mains of Lamb and Venison. The meat, vegetables and sauces were lovely. Desserts of sticky toffee pudding and crème brulee were gorgeous.
The wine list was pretty good and decent value too.
The beer was nice with 2 decent ales to choose from.

We ate again in the hotel on the second night but this time in the bar. We both had steak and it was really good if not quite pricey (up to £20 each for sirloin/ribeye).
The reason we ate in was because the hotel was quite a distance from any of the main "resorts" of Windermere and taxi fares were quoted at around £15 each way!

We had a 4 poster room with Jacuzzi which I paid an extra £20 for. The room was cold and very very dated. There were holes in the walls which just needed a bit of filler and a good paint job!
The curtains were hanging off the rails and didn't close properly. There weren't even any curtains in the bathroom! The Jacuzzi was a bath tub with jets which looked well past it's sell-by date! Very chipped and marked.
My main issue was that when we returned to our room after a long day's walking around the lake, the glasses in the bathroom and mugs on the tea tray hadn't been replaced! They were from the previous day and needed washing out!

We didn't try the pool as we couldn't get warm all weekend :(

So, a place that was probably "something" years ago.....just needing a little TLC and a housekeeping course.....could be great again!

Thank you for your review, both the good bits and the bits where we can improve. Your comments about our food have certainly gone down well with the chef. We're pleased you enjoyed the beer selection too, with the ales being brewed just a few miles away. We'll get those issues looked at straight away as well. Thanks again.

Visited this hotel for my birthday with my husband via the Groupon deal. It's a lovely hotel with a lot of character. Our room was a little dated (23) but very clean with a lovely view of fields and sheep from our window. The 3 course dinner included on the first night was great quality and very tasty as was the breakfast each morning. We found all the staff very friendly and efficient. The building does need a bit of work but it is very charming, we particularly enjoyed sitting by the log fire in the lounge. The gardens are nice and I imagine they will be lovely in bloom in the summer. Loved feeding the ducks too especially the one with half a beak, he was very friendly and ate out of your hand. I have given this hotel 5 stars, as for the money we paid I don't believe you could get better and we hope to return later this year.

Thanks for staying. Your 5-bubble review lets us know we are doing a good job. There are little lambs popping up all over in the fields nearby, as it is just about Spring. That field your room overlooks sees its fair share of deer as well. Our little beakless wonder will have appreciated you feeding him; it can get a bit too competitive for him. The gardens are very nice when in bloom as well, you'll have to visit again and see them. Thanks again.

Stayed on a 2 night wowcher break and paid for a upgrade to a 4 poster jacuzzi room (room12) which has lovely views of the gardens.Food and service in the restaurant is excellent at both dinner and breakfast. The spa and pool is ok but as per previous reviews the pool could be warmer. The bar was quiet with no music, tv or entertainment although we did meet another couple to have a chat and a drink with. Taxi to Bowness was £13 going and £10 coming back on the sat night. The room was clean although the furniture is dated in our opinion it added to the charm of the hotel.

We were pleasantly surprised with the hotel and location as we had found the deal with Groupon at bargin price. We stayed in the Woodland Suite which was a good sized room for the three of us. We ate at the restaurant on the first night and couldn't fault the food we had and the deserts were delicious and well presented. The staff at the hotel were lovely and very welcoming and made a fuss of our little one. We had a comfortable stay and breakfast the next morning was good. The highlights for our little boy were the appearance of the ducks on the window ledge whilst eating breakfast and being able to enjoy a swim in the hotel pool. The only downside was that the pool was only small and quite cold.
We stayed two nights at the hotel and had an enjoyable stay. Bowness and Windermere were right on our doorstep so we were able to make the short trip each day to the lake. With our Groupon deal we were also able to take a free trip of our choice across lake Windermere and we chose to go to Lakeside and visit the aquarium which our 3yr old boy enjoyed very much.
Thank you for an enjoyable short break away at a bargin price.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 night s through a groupon deal and we wernt disappointed. Nothing was a problem and staff very friendly. The rooms and general decor was slightly dated but the pool area was up to date and very clean. Food was delicious and the bar reasonably priced. Well worth a visit.

Four of us, two couples, stayed for two nights recently. Staff were excellent. Food very good. Nice leisure facilities.
That said, we would not stay there again for two reasons. The bedroom we stayed in, needed more than a lick of paint. Also the hotel is to far out of Bowness (£13 in a taxi) for our liking.

We paid one hundred and fifty pounds per couple for two nights B&B and an evening meal. This was discounted with an online voucher which also included a boat trip on Windamere. Overall it was good value at that price, just not for us again.

Please note also with this hotel being in the sticks, the phone signal is poor, the tv keeps losing its signal, and the WiFi didn't reach our room, no36.
