Having booked a TravelZoo offer in November for my wifes birthday break, we couldn't go but were pleasantly surprised to be told by reception when we cancelled to use our credit up at some later date. For wedding anniversary w/e of 5th and 6th February, we made it and again, were happy that the staff informed us that we could transfer the whole TravelZoo offer to that w/e as there was a new TravelZoo offer. The staff were great, food was good and we enjoyed the break with walks in the snowy area that Sunday. Bluebell 4 poster suite was hopelessly noisy from walking and bathroom noises from room above. In middle of night the snorer above was not heavy but it just meant that you heard 'everything'. Requested room change for next night. Room 2 was offered and we accepted a 'downgrade' for a quite sleep. Still could near too much of neighbouring room from bathroom but slept well. So, it is the historic construction of the buildings that amounts to a less than satisfactory 'room experience' but this is sort of compensated by the service and food. And it seemed reasonable value.

Room Tip: Bluebell suite can hear all occupants above.

Thank you very much for this lovely review. Our staff work very hard to provide excellent service for all our guests, and we are so pleased to hear that it pays off. We hope that you will come back and stay with us for a third time, perhaps when it is a little warmer outside!

We booked this hotel through Groupon and that made it exceptionally good value. Our room was on the lower floor and was clean warm with new looking furniture. The bathroom was a bit warn and in need of repair, just one or two things that let it down. We had. Meal included the first night which was lovely with a good choice for vegetarians, it was the same for breakfast which is unusual. The bar was nice for an evening drink and the sofas by the fire at the front are lovely for chilling out. This is a quiet hotel out of the way, the service is good, not sure I would want to pay the full price for the room we stayed in but at the right price it's a good option for the location.

Just returned from a birthday treat, after reading reviews on hear we were looking forward to something special. Yes the reception is very nice and welcoming, bar area also nice as was the outside all covered in snow, but sorry that's where it ended for us. Room ok as far as cleanliness goes, bed rock hard struggled to get to sleep, radiator sounds like its sending morse code messages all the time unless you turn it off, water pipes rattling if tap turned on at a certain pressure, wardrobe door hinge hanging off, screw sticking up between bathroom and bedroom, in the dining room we sat directly under a light which had a mass of cobwebs around it, dust on the speakers, paint scraped/chipped off the window frames, indeed of some décor. Food not up to much, soup luke warm, steak at an extra £8, arrived cold, served on cold plates with frozen chips, not what I expected, it was reheated in the microwave, lovely not, also sticky toffee pudding heated in microwave giving a rather crusty side, not what I expected from this level of hotel. Got woken at 2am by some noisy residents banging doors, talking quite loud then going to their loo, whoever planned the layout of the rooms didn't think about beds in one room backing onto the dividing wall with the bathroom of the other room, not a pleasant thing to listen to either at 2am, or in the morning before breakfast. Leading onto breakfast, again all very nice if you like your food luke warm. We booked for 2 nights but due to lack of sleep, the hard bed and food not up to much we decided to leave after breakfast. Money for the steak was refunded when reception asked why we were leaving. I am not a fussy eater or have ever complained before but this was no where near as good as Barcelo hotels which don't cost as much. Speaking and listening to other guests they were of a similar opinion, one saying, after telling reception about things he didn't find to his satisfaction, it is like water off a ducks back. On a good note about the staff, they were all very pleasant and very nice, shame really as we were looking forward to a lovely couple of days away.

Room Tip: Dividing walls very thin between room 30 & 32, cant comment on any others, maybe thicker in the...

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We are very sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your stay and that the food was not up to standard. Your comments about the food were surprising to us, as we normally receive excellent reviews about the food, however, they have been taken seriously and our chef will work hard to avoid this happening again.
We feel that it is unfair to compare us with a chain hotel, as they do not operate in the Lake District area and therefore cater for a very different market.

Four of us stayed at Damson Dene for two nights 5th & 6th Feb. We went for (1) Our anniversary (2) Sisters birthday (3)Chasing some family history in the Lake District.
Having stayed a few years ago when we saw the offer we jumped at it.
Can't fault the staff or the atmosphere of the hotel. The snow was on the ground when we arrived and it looked really pretty as we approached.
Our room was a four poster room with jacuzzi, very clean even though the decor was a little jaded and the taps fell off in the old jacuzzi, but bed was very comfortable and if it hadn't been for the excellent breakfast we knew was waiting for us you would have been hard pushed to get us out of it. The room was really comfortable and plenty of space, the four of us sat in one or the others room nattering til early hours. I didn't use the leisure facilities but my sister and her husband did and said they were adequate. My sister was really impressed with the massage and facial she had, she said she would consider going again for a spa day in the future.
Thank you Wayne for a wonderful break, please thank all your staff from cleaners to reception they are a credit to you. One example, my husband dropped his knife at breakfast and before he could bend to pick it up another was handed to him and the offending knife removed (now that sort of service smacks of a 5* hotel) Keep up the good work, you all seem to enjoy it as much as we did.

This is the second time myself and my fiancée have stayed here. Was jus as brilliant as the first. We had a meal the first night and we both tried something different and it was amazing!
Only slight grumbles were in the lovely welcoming area with a log fire there seemed to be a business conference and they made camp there so no one else could benefit which I found highly selfish and unfair, the tv reception is a joke but we weren't in the room often and the car park really does need some lights as if you have to park down the bottom it really is pitch black. Other than that we loved it and we will return for a third time soon hopefully!
