We have just spent a very pleasant couple of days at the Damson Dene and have very little to complain off. The staff are the jewel in the crown of this hotel, very helpful,
friendly and the best trained bunch I have encountered in some time. The food is also excellent, well prepared and served with a lot of attention to detail. It must be said that the hotel is looking a little tired and in need of some refurbishment in the bedrooms but the roaring fire in the very welcoming lounge is hard to beat. If given a face lift I would have no hesitation in giving the Damson Dene a 5 star rating and the best bit about this hotel is the wonderful bargains available for a short break.

Room Tip: Look at the room allocated before accepting it, they do vary a lot.

Me and my partner stayed here in febuary 2011 with some family. Probably not the best time to travel to the lake district but it was very cold in the bedrooms and the heating did not work? The rooms were quite damp also. The rooms were nice but quite dated and very bare, not many soft/extra furnishings. It's in a nice location, and did have a swimming pool and spa treatments but i didn't experience any of these. The breakfast was a bit disappointing, food was kept warm on hot plates but my sausages were actually quite undercooked, the staff were not the friendliest and were occasionally rather rude, but i think that might have been down to the fact none of them were british and could not quite understand english well at times? we did complain about our findings at the end of the stay and asked to speak to a manager, but he was not available? we were given an address to write to, which we did, but had no reply... i would probably not go back again.

We had never been to this fabulous Hotel ever, first timers! Can honestly say we cant wait to go back again after we get married in Febuary 2012. Wayne and all his staff were fantastic, they could not do anymore than they did. Excellent value for money, excellent surroundings, but best of all was the meals, the food was fantastic!!
Cant wait to go back- thank you to all the wonderful staff- Mr and Mrs-to-be Meath :)

As previous trippers we also saw the hotel on the TV. We arrived after a 2 hour drive in the horrible Friday night rush hour traffic. On arrival we were greeted by very friendly and accomodating staff. We checked into our room - a little small but very very clean and inviting.
A quick change then we headed to the bar to unwind. Again, lovely staff in the bar area.
We had an evening meal in The Heron resturant within the hotel and the food was very good - not loads of choice but very tasty.
The next morning we had breakfast which again was very enjoyable. It was at breakfast we met Wayne the hotel manager and star of the show. My partner and I was amazed that he had not been snapped up by another hotel or had any offers because he is extremely good at his job and a very friendly guy.
A really relaxing place with great staff and a cosy atmosphere.
£10 in a taxi to Bowness-on- Windermere where there are a number of bars/resturants - we can reccomend the tapas bar bodego - great food and atmosphere.
We will return and reccomend to friends and family :-)

After watching the programme on TV i thought it would be a good present to book the Damsen Dene for a night for my boyfriend. Not expecting much we were both very pleasently surprised by this hotel. Set in gorgeous surroundings with amazing views the hotel is very freindly and welcoming. The staff were always on hand and very helpful. The food served for dinner was absolutely amazing and well worth staying in for, some of the nicest food i have tasted.
We would love to stay at the hotel again and would bring along our little girl next time.
It was great to see all the staff still there from the show and just as they were portrayed in it are still warm and friendly.
Would highly reccommend to all

We chose to stay at the hotel purely because of the tv series. We were not disappointed. The family room we had was fantastic and spacious and perfect even though it was not in the main part of the hotel it was a very short walk. The food was faultless and most enjoyable. Nothing was a problem and we got to be served by both Wayne and Amos which was the cherry on the cake. Will definitely be returning

My partner and I booked a two night stay at the Damson Dene following an offer advertised through Travel Zoo. It wasn't until then we realised the Hotel had featured on channel 4. So prior to our visit we watched some of the episodes which made our stay more interesting, looking out for the stars of the show!
The Hotel is in the middle of nowhere which was perfect. The room was clean and well equipped with the bathroom looking like it had been recently refurbished.
We ate in the restaurant the first evening and the food was amazing, could not fault a thing. We sampled the bar menu the following evening which was disappointing. Not much choice and service was slow, staff obviously concentrate on the restaurant customers first.
Breakfast was good, lots of choice and the self select buffet is a great option.
The pool, spa and steam room were also a nice facility, especially if you have been out walking all day.
Would recommend to friends and family (in fact I have already!)
Nothing can beat the fact you can take your dog!!

Hi Vicky and thank you for your review. I am very happy you enjoyed your stay and are recommending the Damson Dene to others. The Travel Zoo deal was very popular and I am glad you were able to take advantage of it. I hope to see you in the future.
