I must have been staying at a differant hotel to those who wrote the last reviews? The staff were very professional at all times, the food fantastic and I was made to feel extremely welcome. Clean room with hot water and comfortable bed. I have quite a few food allerigies but this was no trouble when I explained and I got what I asked for. I will be booking to go again and hoping to spend Christmas there.

After watching the Hotel we decided that as we were in the area we would drop in and see what the Damson Dene was like in the flesh and try and some of the celebrities (mainly Fly). The Hotel is situated in a lovely setting and very convenient for Windermere. On arrival we had a drink in the bar before going through to the restaurant. The bar and restaurant are very nicely decorated and the staff were very polite and attentive. The food was excellent - very tasty and arrived quickly. We have decided to return later in the year and stay here for a few nights.

Only complaint was we didn't get to see Wayne or Fly although we did see spot of the other staff.

We would definitely recommend it to anyone.

We have just spent a very nice two days celebrating our ruby anniversary at Damson dene. Having seen the first TV program BEFORE we knew of this surprise arranged by our kids,we were not allowed to watch subsequent programs! Our stay was some sort of deal with afternoon tea on arrival, evening meal, 4 poster bed with jacuzzi, etc.) Beforehand, as a result of the program, we were dubious but how wrong can you be. Our room was spacious, the en-suite bathroom, with jacuzzi, spotless and large enough to have a ball. The food was spot on, the staff were very attentive, without being over bearing, and always polite. Impromptu quizes in the bar, set up by fellow guests, provided spontaneous entertainment, an indication of the friendly ambience exuded by the Dene.
Reading the reviews you'll either love this hotel or hate it. If you don't like dogs then don't book it, after all it is well advertised as a dog friendly hotel. We do NOT have a dog,but enjoyed those that were there with their owners, who are invariably responsible, fellow quests. We did NOT find any hairs anywhere!!!!. A very enjoyable week-end which we hope to repeat sometime.

We arrived at the Damson Dene hotel on 29th March for two nights, after spending the previous night in the north lakes. This hotel was all we could have hoped for. We were upgraded to a four poster bed room, and the included evening meal was absolutely first class, with service to match! The following day saw us enjoy a breakfast that no-one could fault, although being buffet style, there was always staff on hand to top up tea/coffee/toast etc.
Such was the previous evening meal, we decided to only have a sandwich for lunch, and booked ourselves in for dinner again that night. The staff once again were really good, in fact so good, that on selecting a bottle of wine, the waitress pointed out that as we were on the "special deal" the wine was free!
Yes, the decor was "tired" but spotless, Yes our T.V. kept losing it's signal, yes i'm not all that keen on dogs having so much free reign, but it will not stop us from keeping our eyes open for a similar deal!!
Our visit was about three weeks before the channel 4 series started, and were only told of it by our receptionist on checking out. The programme is hilarious, but bears no resemblance to the experience we had.
Most hotels nowadays use Eastern European staff, as they are generally so polite and hard working, and living away from home, are prepared to work the long unsocial hours that is required.

I booked this hotel for our anniversary, as a lovely break in the lakes. it was shabby on arrival with a table in the reception held up with a screw, tired decor and tiny rooms. Dirty dogs everywhere yapping! Over the weekend we had no hot water in our shower despite several complaints. Poor food, a dirty and shabby pool and steam room - not working correctly. I was kept awake by staff arguing near to our room, and our anniversary was one to definately forget ! Despite a complaint to the owner he has remained arrogant and has not even apologised for the cold water shower and still maintains his hotel is of good quality and most guests love it! Do not stay here unless it has a complete overhaul and a new owner.

Room Tip: Dont book here!

This guest only raised her complaints, which we do not accept, after seeing 'The Hotel' TV programme and writing a letter in which she complained, without any justification, about being referred to as 'mondeo man'. She has received a personal reply from the owner.

My Partner and I stayed in this hotel last July as part of the wedding party that was the point of focus in a programme called 'The Hotel' which is currently being aired by channel 4.

Contrary to the comments made by the General Manager and the Barman I can certainly affirm the following:

The hotel is tatty and the staff are very rude.

Considering the bride and groom paid a lot of money to have there special day there and a lot of money passing over the bar by the wedding party during our two day stay we feel the staff, in particular, Wayne, were very rude and not at all helpful when it came to going the extra mile. It seems thathe had a particular attitude that made us all feel unwelcome which is not what you would expect at a wedding function.

The bar closed earlier than was agreed by a rather ignorant barman who incredulously threatened to call the police if we didnt go to bed which you could understand if it were late, but not at 12.30am at a wedding function. What we couldn't understand was that everyone was quite happily sitting in the lounge chatting away not some rowdy mob that they would habe you believe.

The food service was terrible. In particlar, the manager kicked up a fuss when one of the children wanted to change their desert to ice cream. Obviously out of touch with the real world.

Considering the aforementioned I would not stay in this hotel again and I would certainly not recommend anyone to book a wedding or special occasion at the Damson Dene as you certainly do not get what you pay for. You are promised the earth when you hand over your money but they fall well short of coming up with the goods when it comes to the crunch.

This review was posted 9 months after the stay solely in response to a TV programme, which portrayed these guests in a very poor light. There comments are untrue and people can make up their own mind about the motivation.

I felt the need to write this review after watching The Hotel last night. We stayed there at the same time as the wedding party that had complained on this site.
I have to say that as one of the 60 other guests that Wayne was concerned about, not once did the wedding party cause ANY trouble or excess noise. Poor family.
Wayne and his staff are deluded!
