Excellent food and very good service. Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Lakes with accommodation too, if required.

“Excellent place to stop”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

We stopped at the Punch Bowl for lunch on the way up to Scotland and then again on the way back for dinner. We lso stayed the night in a lovely room. The food was excellent and the service great. We really enjoyed our stay and the complimentary cream tea was great. Will stay there again next time we head north.

“Excellent - but tip is to book or get here early”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

Three of us ate here on a Sunday evening at about 1900hrs. We've tried on a previous occassion to dine but the place was booked out with a wedding - similar happened to us at their sister pub in Lupton - so advise is to ring up and book.
We had our dog with us so were seated in a cosy lounge area just below the main bar which was quiet and very comfortable. Service was on hand straight away and haveing been whisked to our table I hadn't seen what ales were on tap - the waitress told me what they had and offered to bring some tasters to me at the table which i thought was a really nice touch - drinks duely ordered time to peruse the menu. A what a great menu it is with well descibed choices showing off ther use of quality local ingredients. Skipped the starter (shame fancied the Loch Fyne scallops) - holding back for a dessert. For mains we all had fish dishes - oven baked cod which was perfectly cooked seeing it was such a large thick fillet of fish - and lemon sole with shrimp butter which was again perfectly cooked on the bone, trimmed and presented to perfection.
Desserts were a dream - toffee souflee the highlight - don't believe i've had one before and i could imagine how disastrous they could end up but this was perfectly risen, delicate and full of flavour.
Service was impeccable throughout - so i was really pleased to give a reasonable tip - which was graciously received. I was also presented with a £5 voucher on my return or a 10% deduction of my next meal. Win win for all!!

“Just what we needed”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

After a very long day, we settled down to a pint and a Gin and tonic and a delicious meal. Beer battered fish and chips and pork loin chops to die for. Well worth a visit.

“Not as good as it was”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

We got married here in 2009 and had stayed many times, we were in love with the building, the food, the rooms and the staff.

When we dined there in 2011 the team that managed The Punch Bowl, sadly, had all but gone, and although the character and style of the place remains, the personality and charm of the service has totally disappeared.

The food was good though!
