“Home from home during house move”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2014

We stayed at the Stanley again during our move from Staffordshire to Seascale. We were disappointed that they didn't have a room for all 5 nights we needed which meant we had to decamp again to another B&B. However, it was great to be back and Clive and Mel welcomed us like family (as they do with everyone). We had two nights of excellent meals and puddings. The puds are are generous portions and I know I will feel stuffed but I have to have one anyway! The chicken stir fry would have easily graced the table of any good chinese restaurant (and in fact was better than some meals I've had in good chinese restaurants). Clive had just had a fly by inspection from the food standards officers at Copeland council and has been recommended for a 5 star cleanliness award, which he was right to be proud of.

We had the room with the 'priesthole' to the bathroom which I'm pleased to say neither Robin nor I banged our head on this time. So no swearing this visit. It's a comfortable large room with plenty of space for the dogs, which is why we like it. The Stanley is a comfortable and homely place to stay and if you have dogs it's nice to feel like you don't have to tread on eggshells every time you walk through the front door. Also dogs are allowed in the bar and Clive has dog biscuits ready for those who are well behaved.

Good things about the Stanley
1. Excellent hosts and welcome
2. Food
3. Comfortable Dog friendly rooms
4. Good dog walk down the riverside for a night time short stroll
5. Location
6. Clive's sense of humour
7. Price
8. Nice big dog friendly bar
9. Beer garden on the riverside (for when it's warm!)
10. Often quiet and available at weekends

Things we'd like to see here:
1. Decaf coffee in the bedroom
2. Complimentary biccies
3. Some complimentary small shower gel / shampoo
4. More options for a proper continental breakfast (cheese/ham/bread rolls/criossants)
5. When 2 people stay, remembering to put out 2 towels!

Now we are close by I expect we will be in the bar often.

Room Tip: It's on a main road so light sleepers should bring ear plugs

Stopped off for lunch during my husbands work day, the place was empty when we arrived but the waitress made us feel very welcome. I had the liver (served with chips and not mashed potato) my husband had the gammon both were excellent, steaming hot and beautifully served. We shall defiantly go again.

Room Tip: Excellent menu, plenty of choice, good children's menu.

Fabulous 3 nights stay at The Stanley Ams Hotel. Mel and Clive are perfect hosts along with their team and the friendly locals made us so welcome. Food is amazing with plenty of choice, breakfast a must! Dog friendly too with a fabulously well kept beer garden with a beautiful stream running along side, a must for the summer.

My husband and I stopped off for lunch, having driven past many times. We were warmly met by the staff. The food was excellent, and the waitress was knowledgable and made suggestions, my husband had the lamb which was delicious and I had liver which was also excellent. the pub had a very nice relaxed atmosphere. so we had a very enjoyable lunch and will definitely be back. Thank you.

I spent five nights at the Stanley Arms while on a business trip. I cannot speak highly enough of the service and hospitality at this attractive country pub. Owners Mel and Clive have been here about eighteen months and have already built up a good local trade. The bar food is first class and great care is taken with standards of service. Clive admits it's work in progress (some of the bedrooms need updating) but what this hard-working couple have achieved so far is impressive indeed!

We were lookingt for somewhere to have lunch and several places were closed. The Stanley Arms didn't look all that open, but once inside it was a warm and cheerful place. We only had snack food, toasted sandwiches, soup and that sort of thing. Everything which should be hot was hot and the prices reasonable, if we are in the area again we will go back.

Stopped here recently for a bar meal at lunchtime and really enjoyed it.Friendly efficient staff , well cooked tasty food nicely served. They serve food all day including cream teas which some people were also having, and they advertise sunday lunches. The hotel is right beside the A595 in the middle of Calderbridge with its own car park to the side and a riverside beer garden for use in good weather.Don't live that far away so will be back.
