“Awsome Experience”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

My husband and I visited Murthwaite Green Trekking Centre for a 3 day riding holiday. We are both new to riding (18 months and 8 months experience) and so were a little apprehensive. We needn't have been the whole experience was amazing. We had an assessment lesson on the firts morning and felt totally supported and encouraged throughout. We were suprised but excited to be told we would be galloping on the beach by the end of the holiday if not that day! That afternoon we had our firts 3 hour picnic beach ride and it was amazing. The horses are responsive and sensible but prepared to gallop if they think you are secure. I was going to ask my husband if he was enjoying himself but his smile said it all.

The second day we did a full day ride to Hodbarrow Nature Reserve and had a great time walking, trotting and more galloping. This time there were only 4 of us and our lead and back up riders (who did an an amazing job) so we all galloped together a truly wonderful experience. We felt completely safe and knew the horses would stop and that our guides were always watching out for any problems and making sure we stayed out of trouble.

The third day we had a village ride, another lesson and another beach picnic ride. It rained a little bit but our waterproofs kept us dry and warm. We again felt wonderfully encouraged during our lesson and both feel we have gained in confidence throughout the three days.

We would recommend this to anyone, whether you are looking for a one off beach ride or a longer holiday. The staff are fantastic, encouraging and enthusiastic -whaterver the weather. The horses are sensible but responsive and more than up for a gallop and this combination makes for a fantastic time. All abilities are catered for and you are not made to feel like you are not good enough. We will definitely return and were extremely sorry to leave.

Thank you to everyone for making our holiday such an unforgettable experience.

This is a can't miss thing to do when in the Lake District. The first experience is getting there from Ambleside. Roads are very narrow with the walls on either side but once there it was first class. A very old barn with character and some great views just from the barn. The girls did everything getting the horses and us ready and you go from the barn down the small town streets right to the beach. Horseback riding on the Irish Sea! You have got to be kidding me! This was amazing, we trotted and gallopped (depending on experience). The horses were so gentle and even I could ride and even trotted. Wife grew up riding so she was great and my 13 year old son even had a blast. The tide goes way out here so we had about 200 yards wide of beach and we rode maybe 2 or 3 miles on it. Then up some dunes for lunch. Bring your own and bring some for your guide!!!!! Ate on the horses and then rode back, the tide had come up so we trotted and galloped a lot and finally the last 1/2 mile on the smooth stones. A beautiful ride with some great people and a must do if in the area. $71 per person but well worth it and a tip for the guides. We rode in just jeans and sneakers, they have helmets to use. After the ride we laughed so hard when we got off. Not riding and then on a horse for 4 hours made our legs like spaghetti, so much fun and would do it again and again!!! Nice job Murthwaite!

“Enjoyable despite the weather”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

Our experience began when we had to ring the stables for directions having been let down by our online map. The directions we got were perfect and enabled us to still arrive on time(ish). The only issue we had was completely out of the control of the stables and that was the weather! There was a lot of wind and rain but we still managed to complete the 90 minute beach ride with two horses with very clear characters. It was obvious that the horses had been assigned due to our differing experience levels and they fitted us perfectly! In summary despite the weather, the attitude of the guides was spot on and contributed to a very enjoyable experience.

“Highly recommended.”
Reviewed June 2, 2012

This is our first time at Murthwaite Green and we very much enjoyed it.

Cath and her able staff are welcoming, helpful and happy to share their experience and love of horses. The horses themselves are well-mannered, very well behaved on the roads, responsive and happy to take either beginners or more experienced riders.

The riding centre offers both beach and fell riding and we enjoyed both. The views from the fells are fantastic and the gallops across the beach are breathtaking.

“An excellent riding experience and great Fun!”
Reviewed April 18, 2012

This was my fourth time to Murthwaite Green, I can't recommend this place enough. I have been on their five day trekking holiday and three 2 day experience and loved every minute, from climbing mountains to racing on the beaches. Cath and the team make you feel very welcome. The horses are lovely and complety safe for novices and experienced riders to experience the beautiful beach rides that you can't find at home.
We always stay at the Wayside Guest House, Steve and Lyn will always make you welcome.
