Our experience began when we had to ring the stables for directions having been let down by our online map. The directions we got were perfect and enabled us to still arrive on time(ish). The only issue we had was completely out of the control of the stables and that was the weather! There was a lot of wind and rain but we still managed to complete the 90 minute beach ride with two horses with very clear characters. It was obvious that the horses had been assigned due to our differing experience levels and they fitted us perfectly! In summary despite the weather, the attitude of the guides was spot on and contributed to a very enjoyable experience.

This is our first time at Murthwaite Green and we very much enjoyed it.

Cath and her able staff are welcoming, helpful and happy to share their experience and love of horses. The horses themselves are well-mannered, very well behaved on the roads, responsive and happy to take either beginners or more experienced riders.

The riding centre offers both beach and fell riding and we enjoyed both. The views from the fells are fantastic and the gallops across the beach are breathtaking.

This was my fourth time to Murthwaite Green, I can't recommend this place enough. I have been on their five day trekking holiday and three 2 day experience and loved every minute, from climbing mountains to racing on the beaches. Cath and the team make you feel very welcome. The horses are lovely and complety safe for novices and experienced riders to experience the beautiful beach rides that you can't find at home.
We always stay at the Wayside Guest House, Steve and Lyn will always make you welcome.

Have just spent the weekend in the Western Lakes with four friends and did a three hour beach ride with Murthwaite. I am not sure if our expectations were too high when we arrived but we were slightly disappointed with the whole experience. We may have just visited on a bad day but there was not much organisation when we arrived. Four of us are experienced riders (of varying degrees) with one of our party owning their own thoroughbred horse. The horse she was given to ride was just not what she was used to and we had specifically told them of all our abilities when we booked so we were surprised with the horses they had allocated to a couple of us. One of the horses had a shoe missing from the front so it was a wonky ride and one had a shoe loose - it was just the little things like this what seemed most surprising. The horses were a little bedraggled but I suppose that is to be expected coming out of winter. Having said all that, the experience of galloping on the beach was fantastic. We found out that there is a heavy horse centre nearby who also offer beach/fell rides on shire horses or Clydesdales and so if we were to return to the area we would try this out as it was recommended by a guest of the same hotel we were staying at.

Lovely horses, lovely staff, great prices. Go and you won't regret it. Even novices are wel catered for.

PS Like all work with horses it is not well paid so if you enjoy it give your trek leaders a couple of quid tip.
