“Beautiful beach, if it weren't for all the people...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2014 via mobile

This is unfortunately a hyped up attraction. If you like to be surrounded by other sun bathers this is the beach to visit. The beach is very beautiful and the water is nice and blue, you have food and drinks, and plenty of free parking space, but be warned the parking is not as organized as one would wish.

We arrived at the beach sometime after lunch, and this is not to recommend, if you decide to visit Elafonissi try getting there as early as possible, we drove by car from Almyrida on the north side, this took us nearly 2,5 h the roads are quite an adventure them self, we were advised not to choose the costal road, but instead go the inland road due to heavy traffic.

But as always, the most important thing, keep smiling and enjoy your day.

“Did not live up to the hype”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2014

We expected an exceptional beach but found a tourist overrun beach. Too many people on the beach, we didn't feel save to leave our stuff alone on the beach.

“Excellent beach”

Gem. Well worth a visit. Unique. There are sunbeds and umbrellas provided for a fee but you can bring your own as well.

“Far too crowded”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

It was so crowded that it gave the impression of a public swimming pool rather than a beach. The deck chairs were set up so close together that one could barely get through. If one also had the misfortune of being next to a noisy family, there was no way you could read your book in peace.
We were told to come after 3pm to avoid the crowds but this did not help except that there actually were some empty chairs one could rent (7 Euros, even in late afternoon).
Yes it is unique in Crete as it is a real sandy beach but if I ever come back, it will be in October. Maybe then I will be able to appreciate its beauty.

“Paradise Lost”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

What a stunning place. The changing colours of the sea and the sweeping curves of the white sand beaches make this setting most beach-goers idea of paradise.
But add four thousand people every day during summer and the effect is tarnished.
