Miracle of the world. Beautiful sand and water :) And some rocks in the water. Sometimes to much wind, but it's ok :)

“Beach 5, infrastructure 0”

People could have been much more creative living in such a stunning place. So many greenhouses and nasty buildings.. Shame!

“Walk to uninhabited paradise island, beautiful clear sea, pink sand stunning views.”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

Was advised to go here by hotel owner and was well worth the trip. It has a beautiful beach, plenty of pounders for sunbathing if that's what you want and places to get food and drunk right on beach front. Walking across the sea to the uninhabited island is surreal and once there you can walk all the way round or choose to relax in the dunes or by the sea. Views are amazing and the small church was a nice surprise in our trek round. The plants and juniper trees are lovely and keep your eyes peeled for the amazing lizards which are small but awesome. Make sure you take drink it food over as there's nowhere to get it once you're there! Well worth a visit! Stunning!

“Words cannot describe this place”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

I read many good things of this place, and decided that my girlfriend and I must see it. We drove more than 3 hours from Agia Pelagia through the Rethymnon/Chania/Kissamoss and the mountains to get there(I gave a few years back from my lifespan to those mountains). It was well worth it. The sight is almost impossible to describe. Lagoons everywhere, with clear white sand that shines pink when the waves hit the beach(Crushed corals mixed with the sand). It's clean everywhere, not eve a cigarette stub. The cleanest, biggest chemical toilets I have ever seen around the world(0.50 cents of a Euro). 7 Euros for a couple of sunbeds and a parasol. There are a couple of kiosks that sells whatever you want to eat, from salads to sandwiches and beer. There are lifeguards in the area and free parking. The water is crystal clear, blue, green and not too cold(warm and cold pockets of water around the lagoon). There's a tiny island between the mainland and another bigger island, which is more secluded than the beaches on the mainland. There are also plenty of other beaches to explore all around. The whole area is considered a nature reserve and some areas are prohibited from accessing(to preserve wildlife). I come from a country with beautiful yellow/white sand beaches, where it's always hot(mostly), and I used to live next to a beach for 15 years. This place is a must for any beach/sea dwellers if you're in Crete. I don't know about Balos or other beaches I've heard of but I'm glad we had the opportunity to visit Elafonisi which lives up to the name. A real paradise.
