We visited for a destination wedding in November, and it was a good solution for a group of different ages and tastes. We stayed at Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe (there are other lodging options on the property) and it was well-maintained and attractively furnished with many choices for pools, dining and activities. I'm a discerning eater and they have one of the best buffets I've ever been to (anywhere in the world) for breakfast and dinner!! At least half of the guests were international, which certainly made it more interesting from my perspective. The larger property had a nightclub, casino and other amenities (possibly a hospital) with regular shuttle service between them. Overall, I think it was a very good value for the money.
All that said, all-inclusive resorts are never my personal choice. The property was so big that you had to factor in a 10-15 minute walk to get anywhere, strongly reminiscent of Las Vegas. The wi-fi was not included, required repeat logins and was inconsistent. The worst part about the trip was the 50 mile trek from the Cancun airport, which took us two nauseating hours in a van on the way there. Pro tip: take a private car if you get motion sick.

Dear SHEvorg,

Thank you very much for your feedback !! We feel happy to know that you liked the food in our restaurants and your overall experience was great.

We are sorry your transportation made 2 hours to our hotel as it usually takes not more than 1 hour and 15 minutes to get here from the airport and that caused a bad perception of the place.

We hope to welcomr you back soon.

Best Regards,

We stayed at the Colonial last year. Booked it again for this April 4th thru 12th. We were upgraded to the Palace at no extra cost! Why?????- because the resort was inundated with college spring breakers and the Colonial had been overbooked. We actually liked the Colonial better. More restaurant choices at the Palace, but the whole layout of the Palace was on so many levels that you were constantly going up and down stairs or elevators. We ate at the French restaurant twice and our waiter both times was Fernando Baltazar. Ask for him if you go there. Our favorite waiter of all the restaurants. We've stayed at this resort: at the Beach, Colonial , and lastly the Palace. We've been very happy with with the whole resort, from food to drinks to overall service. But I have one big word of advice to anyone planning on going there. Unless you are the parent of one of the spring breakers, or have a bunch of kids with you on Easter vacation, AVOID this resort like the PLAGUE from approximately mid March until after Easter vacation. Last year we went in mid March and faced the Canadian version of Spring break, called March break. The Canadian students were in comparison a far better group than their American counterparts. The American college students were overall a group of obnoxious, inconsiderate, loud, and totally uncaring about the vacation experience of anyone. The parents of these children should all be ashamed of themselves for what they have raised and the lack of values they have taught their children. At any other time you will find this resort a great place to visit and have a wonderful experience.

Dear Jaycher,

Thank you very much for coming back to Barceló. We are glad to know that your overall experience was great with us at the Palace and we appreciate all your feedback.

As you mention specially this year we had big groups and it was difficult to control all the teenagers , but this has been already discussed so we are improving our strategies to avoid bad situations with guests not behaving in our hotel.

Once again thank you for the great feedback and of course we will share your compliments to Fernando and recognize him.

Hope to welcome you back soon.

Best Regards,

We came back after 5 years, and you did not disappoint! Upgraded to the Palace this time. Very nice. The restaurants are excellent, make sure you get reservations as soon as you arrive* also we did just go without reservations one night and asked if they had any cancellations, we waited 25 min and got in. Make sure you check out the entire resort. Alot of hidden treasures. We bought $40 snorkle gear the first day. the snorkeling off the beach is amazing...sea turtles stingrays and beautiful fish. highlight of the trip! The adult pool was our favorite afternoon relaxation. We were greeted warmly everyday and had outstanding service from our waitress Angelica Acosta! She was as good as it gets. Happy, attentive and thankful for being able to serve with a smile. We had a great trip with my parents and our 18 year old. Will not think twice before booking at barcelo (even if it was spring break) it was busy but not crazy...very relaxing and I highly recommend!

Room tip: we were right by the laundry...but never heard a thing!

The grounds of the resort are beautiful! The room was perfect for our family of 4. We had a king and 2 day beds and the girls loved sleeping on them. We are not huge fans of buffets but the kids enjoyed them for breakfast and lunch. We ate smarter at the buffet as the week progressed. We really enjoyed the Rodizio and Caribe at the Palace. We also went to the Mexican and Japanese restaurants and they were ok. The staff was lovely, esp at the kids club. The main gripe, which we were prepared for by the scathing reviews was check-in. We waited an hour in line only to be told once we got to the counter that there was a separate place for premier yet no signs to indicate this. Then waited another hour in the premier line. At check in they had no record of my reservation despite having the paperwork/locator ID. Thankfully they were able to honor the reservation without any issue but we did not get some of the perks which were included in the premier package. Overall a lovely trip. I would recommend to anyone as long as their significant other is bringing them drinks from the bar during check in!

Decided to return for four nights after coming when the resort first opened. Hotel well maintained, staff were quite friendly in all areas and provided great service.
Internet was only accessible to one device in the room so if you need access for anyone who owns a business this can be a pain.
Food was sufficient and had a great variety.
My only complaint was the drinks were quite watered down & if you ❤ vino bring a few bottles!
Nightly entertainment definitely needs improvement. Suggest adding interactive activities that kids, families can do together.
Lastly management really needs to halt people from booking up chairs all day with towels and not using them. We saw one couple taking chairs by the pool in two different areas as well as the beach and not using them once.

Overall great holiday!

Dear Danna G,

Thank you very much for staying with us!! We are sharing this feedback with our Beverage manager in order to improve the quality of the drinks and have more options for you.We are also addressing your valuable feedback to our enterntainment manager in order to improve the nightly shows. In regards of the chairs around the pool , we will reinforce with the people at those areas to make sure people does not take in advance the chairs as we do have signs indicating they cannot reserve those. We are happy to know that you and your family had a great vacation , ans hope to welcome you back real soon.
