“Something for everyone”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014

My husband and I stayed at the Dreams the first week of April 2014. This is not a "mega" hotel spread out over a vast area. The hotel public areas are pretty much split between the family friendly and the exclusively adult section. Both have a very nice pool and swim up bar but are fairly small compared to other resorts. The food is good - very good as long as you aren't a "foodie" or a finicky eater. If you want gourmet meals then pay the $2500 or more price per person and be happy. The beach is very nice within a sheltered bay. It was very windy while we were there and the waves beyond the swimming area were fierce, but there were lots of kids in the water by the beach. We did upgrade to the 7th floor and had a few nice perks (better liquor, continental breakfast, snacks etc. I would suggest that this floor was changed to an all adult floor since the rest of the hotel accommodations are all family friendly. The dolphin lagoon right in front of the hotel was great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quieter option, no complaints at all!!

From the champagne upon arrival to boarding the transport back to the airport my experience at Dreams was awesome! The weather was perfect (the humidity was a little much at times!) and what really made our stay was the friendliness of the hotel staff! Our day started with breakfast at the World Cafe with wonderful service from Juan, Silvia, Amando and Walter. We were waited on hand and foot and often before I had a chance to ask for something one of them would be bringing it! What a wonderful bunch! The rest of the day was spent beaching, swimming, snorkelling, taking a tour into Playa or one of the local cenotes and enjoying a lunch at one of the restaurants or enjoying the bbq's on the beach! There was always lots to see and do around the resort itself and if you wanted quiet the adult side of the resort provided a more relaxing atmosphere. With 6 restaurants to choose from for dinner there was never a long wait and the food was good. Service from Benjamin and Al either at the disco or one of the bars was always excellent and they were most patient helping me with my Spanish! The staff at this hotel are extremely hard working and truly added to the enjoyment of our holiday! I'd love to see more properties on the Mayan Riveira but its the staff at Dreams which always bring me back!

Room Tip: A beach view means a lot of sun in the morning so if you like to enjoy your morning coffee on the de...

The resort was everything we expected and more. A little bit concerned when reading reviews about all the construction and inconveniences it caused. We had no issues with the on-going construction/renovations in the sushi restaurant.

We traveled to the resort with our 2 kids (12 & 9). We had a great time. The staff in the restaurants were amazing. The food was equally as good. We did not use the adult side of the resort, however we did walk through it several times and found it to be much quieter and subdued compared to the family side.

Our room was very clean. The bathtub/shower could use a bit of TLC, but we were very satisfied with it.

This resort will definitely be on our "return-to" list. We will also recommend this resort to any of our friends and family as a sun destination.

Overall A++!!!

We did not pick this hotel ourselves. This was a 6 deal through Apple Vacations. We were pleasantly surprised! It was a very friendly and welcoming Resort. We were able to upgrade to ocean view room in get into my room before 3 o'clock. It was very clean and the bed was very comfortable! We stayed in that room for two days until our air conditioning broken on us but they were very nice and let us change rooms and we ended up on the 7th floor overlooking Marina and adult pool which was a beautiful view ! We could also see the ocean and it was quieter. Food was great , service was wonderful! It did have a lot of children and they all seem to be very well behaved but if you're looking for a place for adults only this is not the place. Tried all the restaurants and they were great! We would go back!

Room Tip: Room's facing the marina and up above 4 foor are the best! Beautiful views and quiet!

You are probably reading this review because you have either already booked this place or plan to in the near future, well rest assured that you are going to have a great time so long as you leave your "everything has to be perfect!" attitude at home!

Our family: Husband, wife, nanny and 2 kids (11 and 4) who have traveled extensively through the Caribbean, Europe and Asia

Our experience:

Check In
Our flight got there late (and it is a 75 min bus ride from airport) but check in was not a problem (thanks Roberto and Adriana). We had emailed the resort in advance for the rooms we wanted, they gave us an upgrade for the kids to a family room. We somehow ended up in the honeymoon suite! Sweet! Initial impression, I found the lobby a bit small but did not spend that much time there so not a big deal. Concierge service was great. (thanks Noe, Claudia and Alexis) They did a great job in helping us celebrate our son's birthday and finding our lost stuffed friend Bluberry!

Rooms
As you have probably read, the rooms are smallish but really clean and well stocked with drinks, extra pillows/blankets and good size amenities (shampoo/shower gel/cream/soap) and a dvd player (you can borrow movies from the lobby too) plus docking station. Kids had Disney Channel (helpful when you are getting ready!) along with 20 other stations. Bed were great to sleep in with fluffy pillows. Safe worked well. Pool, lobby and lower side rooms are louder vs higher floors or ocean/dolphin view rooms. Honeymoon Suite was really nice with an ocean view, a huge terrace and a hot tub overlooking the sea. Showers were amazing with lots of water pressure and we had no issues with hot water. The family room was huge for the kids and the nanny to enjoy.

Food/restaurants
In my opinion the food was good and you could always find something to eat that was satisfying. Breakfast had the usual stuff, omelet station, eggs, bacon, toast, potatoes, crepes, french toast, juice and even some Mexican items. The kids get their own little buffet to get their own food. The lunch at the Barefoot Grill was great! Fresh burgers, hotdogs, salads, pasta and fruits. Plus no need to leave the beach/pool area to enjoy. Lunch at the Seaside Grill (Sylvia was a great hostess! And Amado a great server!) was amazing too! Burgers, nachos, chicken wings, fish tacos, shrimp and super salads. Dinner you could go to buffet or choose a restaurant. With no reservation system, the Italian one gets really busy (1 hour wait!) so plan around that. I know why it gets busy though, the food is amazing! Francesco the chef even came out to greet us personally because we could not stop telling the waiter how good the food was (especially for an all inclusive) Shout out to Jose our waiter who made it that much better! Mexican restaurant was really good too. We could not decide on a main dish so they brought out a sample tray so we could try it out before ordering a whole plate-- nice! (good job Christian) The Japanese was ok but no teppanyaki grill and portions were smaller. The best part was the Coco Cafe. They had the best desserts/sandwiches along with Starbucks-like coffee selection. You could use the internet here. Nice place to go when you are in between meals or just want to take a break. (Erica was great here!) Room Service was 24/7 and took about 30 min but was hot and fresh! Try the fajitas.

Pools/bars
The resort is divided into adults only section and a family section with their own respective pools. The busy action was on the family side which has the ocean as its backdrop. Pools are small but I never felt crowed in it. The kids have a shallow end as well to play in. There were whirlpools on both sides which was nice when it got a little windy towards the evening. They both have swim up bars for drinks (Pablo at Sugar Reef was great at getting you exactly what you want, when you want it!). The gem of this resort is at the Barracuda Bar. This place is situated right at the water's edge where you can get cool ocean breezes as you swing on the large swings that surround the bar -- wow! Day or night, this place is magical. (J Carlos serves it well!) It makes up for not have a lobby bar.

Beach/surrounding area
Nice small beach. Waves are calmer because of the cove. You can snorkel right off the beach or in the natural lagoon close by. They have an inflatable ocean trampoline (which I found hard for the kids to get on b/c of the flimsy ladder) and iceberg to climb on. They have horse back rides on the beach too! It is a bit rocky getting in but not water shoe type. They have beach beds but they need to be "rented" with the concierge for $35 a day. Hammocks are also available to enjoy. They keep it clean and a waiter comes by regularly to bring drinks. No real need to bring those bubba mugs as portions are big and refreshed quickly. A bigger beach can be found at Omni resort, a 10 minute walk away. In fact a short walk to Puerto Aventuras is a nice way to get off the resort. They have a marina and some small cafes and shops to check out. Very safe as it is part of a gated community which includes this resort. We did the half day Tulum tour and it was perfect with the kids. They even gave us umbrellas, and cold water to start and ended with a cold towel to freshen up and snacks -- so needed! We booked through Transit rep.

Kids Club
Dreams is unique in that they have an explorer club more like a camp. You have to sign them in and out through a locked door. It is from 10 am to 9 pm and you can stay as little or long as your kids want. The ladies there do a great job of keeping the little ones entertained and fed all over the resort. Cooking classes, pinata making, games, pool time, tree house climbing and movies on the beach. Our 4 year old loved it for short periods of time. Our 11 year old felt too big for it but she had fun doing resort stuff and they were lots of kids around. The resort's small size makes it feel safe because the kids can always find you, and you them easily. Other Dream resorts you get a cell phone/pager but not here. You get a daily newsletter telling you what's in store for the next day and they really stick to the schedule.

Over all
This is a small resort which is why it is easier to get around and you get to meet people more easily but you can always find a quiet space for yourself if that is what you want. Wi Fi can be found throughout the resort at no cost. We hired a photographer for family photos and they produced really nice pics (thanks to Joel). Spa is small and expensive but great massages and they are daily deals to look for (thanks to Rumina for helping us) They bring in a night market right on the resort for you to shop in but prices are bit high (bargain with them!). The nightly shows and disco are a bit hit and miss but that is not because of lack of effort (shout out to Havi) but who they hire to entertain. They do have a piano in the lobby as well and sometimes the party there is better! Really this resort is not for you if you are looking for an active nightlife but you can always find something to do or go to Cancun (I say you go to the swing bar!). We met lots of repeat clients so that says something about the resort. I am interested in trying other Dream resorts but I would consider coming back here at some point too.

Hope this was helpful! Have fun!

Me and my boyfriend just returned from Dreams Puerto Aventuras on
April 1. It is a smaller hotel than most all-inclusives we've visited but it just made it more convenient to get around quickly. Dreams is in a gorgeous location between a beautiful white sand beach on one side and a marina full of yachts on the other. We felt very safe biking around the neighbourhood and checking out the little shops, condos, oceanfront villas and most of all, the dolphins in the marina. It was such an awesome experience to be able to see them on a daily basis as the Dolphinarium was just steps away from the hotel.

Our room was upgraded to the 5th floor and the view was breathtaking! The rooms were nicely decorated and ALWAYS kept clean with a turndown service that was never needed as the rooms were upkept in great condition. We had robes and slippers in our hotel room upon arrival which was a nice touch.

The food selection was not as expansive as in some other hotels, but whatever was there was very very good. We tried all the restaurants besides the seafood and were very impressed with each one. A must try is the fish tacos at the grill by the beach! Delicious! Also, I enjoyed the lattes at the lobby coffee shop.

Although we tried a lot of different drinks, some seemed a bit watered down but if you asked for premium alcohol, it was no problem.

We didn't really spend any time in the pool because we enjoyed the warm ocean waters and the beach way too much to even bother with a swimming pool but again, I'm pretty sure I saw a lot of others loving it!

There really is no complaints and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. It bothers me when people visit such beautiful places and still find negative things to say.

We absolutely loved the atmosphere of the hotel, the food, and the friendly staff.

My husband and I did a long weekend Apple package to this resort and we were very pleased. The minute we arrived we were first handed a cool wash-cloth to refresh from the long (45 minute) drive from the airport. Then, we were handed glasses of cold champagne while waiting in line to check in.

Check in was a very easy process and we were THRILLED to find out we could upgrade to the last available honeymoon suite for mere pennies compared to what Apple wanted to charge us for this upgrade. The suite was beautiful and so worth the extra few dollars.

Food selections were great, as was the service through-out the resort area. Staff were attentive, friendly, and all spoke acceptable English. There was almost constant activities with a full range of options for any age group. We also LOVED the adult only section of the resort, as we truly went to relax. This section included a great swim-up bar and a nice lunch buffet/grill each day for those who didn't want to venture away from this area.

The beach itself is clearly not the beautiful beach we're used to in Aruba, but it was acceptable. Each morning the staff raked the beach and beach chairs were plentiful.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this resort.

Room Tip: If you can upgrade to the honeymoon suite, the jacuzzi on the balcony looking out over the ocean is...
