“Average Honeymoon Destination”
Reviewed September 16, 2011

We Choose this resort for our honeymoon as it looked to have all the elements you would need and was more reasonably priced for the area. Flight time from the UK was 9 hours 40 mins going and we travelled with BA where we found the on board staff to be rude - maybe cos we were sitting in coach?. On arrival you are transferred to the resort in mini bus taxi, prepare for the heat when u step off the plane!. The drive is over an hour to the resort but its not too bad as the taxis have AC and usually there are other couples to drop off at other resorts so this takes up time as well. Peurto Aventuras itself is like a gated community and you are signed in and out everytime you move, within, there are other resorts and shops etc and its quiet safe. the Marina is a 10 mins walk from the hotel and you can swim with the dolphins here, do not buy any tat in the shops, they wanted 250 dollars for a silver braclet which was supposed to be mother of pearl but actually was shell and steel. On arrival to dreams you are met by numerous staff who take your bags and give you champagne and cold face clothes all of which are welcome. The Staff cannot do enough for you to be fair and they work really really hard. We had reserved a honeymoon jacuzzi marina view room but got upgraded to Preferential Club room on the 7th floor. With this there was a Preferential lounge where you could have drinks but honestly we only went in there once or twice no atmosphere only the staff watching football all the time. I did see others using it but wasnt our scene. The Room we had was 711 over looking the marina which was nice and quiet cos below was the adult pool and restaurant. The room itself was clean, there was a bottle of bubbly waiting but it wasnt anything special. Ive been in similar room in 4 star hotels in ireland sorry. One excellent thing about the room was the AC, worked a treat and badly needed as the weather is so humid. The Room service is good, had breakfast and lunch, takes at least 40 mins and you have to ring when you are finished so they come and take the tray back. We were all inclusive but we tipped everyone we met. Not being from a tipping culture we werent sure if we had tipped enough as no staff members we over impressed. We asked to see a Marina Jacuzzi room after as we thought it might be better than the room we were in but it wasnt, the jacuzzi is out on the balcony and everyone can see in, also they looked quiet grubby with insects in. The Adult side of the resort is typically quiet, the pool is ok, most adults spend the time in the swim up bar drinking and being loud, wasnt our scene, hardly no one in the adult restaurant. The beach side of the resort was much nicer but packed with kids so as honeymooners you wanted to spend the time at the beach but ended up fighting for seats anywhere near and so we spent most of the time up by the barracuda bar where it was quieter. Beach waiter service was excellent and they deserved their tips. Drinks and cocktails fab, recommend a miami vice! ate in all the restaurants except the sushi place as the menu didnt suit us. Breakfast in the world cafe was good, found the waiting staff rude, if u dont drink coffee you are stared at and they take your cup away! Lunch in here was good and dinner too but its self service buffet so you end up with a bit of everything on the plate. Ate in portofino (Italiany) which was nice but nothing special. El Patio which was closed 2 nights due to weddings has no AC but lovely inside decor and the food is ok. Oceana is the adult only restaurant, mix of food, the waiter made us order a 5 course kept insisting we try this and that. Got eaten alive by mosquitos here as its right on the marina so beware. This was the only place we got bitten. try to sit as far away from the marina as possible but this defeats the purpose. Seaside Grill was good had good lunch menu but all outdoors. Evening food was only average. Barefoot grill was good for burgers, prepare to queue for them though. all in all the food was average didnt have anything exceptional. Activities were intermittant and the entertainment team were lively and did a good job. The Fire and Water show was worth the watch, Beach movie and Karaoke nights were poor. Desires nightclub had good music but no atmosphere and no proper dancefloor? so was never very busy, had AC which was good! We took 2 day trips one to chitzen itza which was amazing but the weather was upto 40 deg and high humidity 95% so kinda took from the experience. The temples themselves were really interesting but mostly closed so you couldnt go into anything. The place is like a flea market with vendors and stalls everywhere selling souvenirs. if you book this trip do not buy anything in the resort when they have the market nights by the pool, they have all this stuff and more for nothing at chitzen itza . Remember to haggle to the lowest price you want. The people seem so poor, we got silver chains and wooden handmade items. On this trip you get the oppertunity to jump into a Cenote as all the rivers are underground in this ares holes where you can see the water are huge and bout 20m down but defo do this, its worth the experience. We did the Speed boat trip as well where you get to drive a 2 person speed boat through the jungle and go snorkling, it was fab and well worth it! At all stages you are signed in and out of the hotel and resort by the taxi driver and guards. ok to sum up, this place is lovely for a holiday, white sand, blue warm sea but i would not recommend this resort for honeymooners. It just doesnt have the sparkle your looking for. We were moved to Secrets Capri Riveria for our last night of the stay, i suppose they needed our room back but this is where we should have booked though it was more expensive you felt like you were on honeymoon here and catered completely for couples. All in all an average honeymoon but would have been perfect if we had been at Secrets from the beginning.

Room Tip: Marina View is Quieter but not as pretty.

my husband and I went for our honeymoon. very nice, small resort. best drinks we have ever had and we travel frequently. food was excellent at the buffet, but not much variety. by the 2nd day it got a little boring. excellent quality, though.

room was nice, but freezing. seems like they have A/C problems because other complained their rooms would not cool at all.

resort is very clean, bartenders are awesome, but front desk staff not very friendly. being able to walk to the marina to see the dolphins was a big plus. unless you are looking for total relaxation, there isn't much to do unless you plan to do some day tours.

the only negative thing that would make me think about going back is the amount of kids. they are EVERYWHERE. I asked to be seated away from a huge table with a bunch of VERY loud children and the hostess informed me it is not their policy to allow special requests. REALLY? the buffet restaurant has two sections and it does not seem to me it should be such a big deal to do this.

all in all, it was a great trip............decent for the money, however, I would not consider this a "TOP" of the line resort as they promote. surely, very, very nice, but not quite as it is promoted. the resort is showing signs of age.

will probably go back again for sentimental reasons, but otherwise, may look elsewhere.

main drawbacks: distance from airport and way too small for the amount of families that were booked.

on the positive side, the drinks were fantastic!!!!!! food was also much better than average.

also, having to pay $15.00 a day for wifi...........ridiculous. very irritating, even the cheaper,
less sophisticated resorts up in cancun offer it for free.

Room Tip: omg.............if you are going as singles or couples, ask to be on the "adult" pool side...

This resort was the best - I have 4 kids, 3 older girls and a 3 year old boy. My son did everything that he could. We did not put him the kidsplay area. ( I did not like that kids area - parents took advantage of it - would leave the kids there all day, for lunch and dinner and pick as late as 10 everynight1) For the family it was wonderful. The rooms were great (we were upgraded). Food was great - the sushi bar needs more choices. The entertainment staff were the best!!! my son loved them all, especially Victor! Thanks to the enterainment staff!!!! All the bar tenders were the greatest. Maybe for future consideration - put out tables of crafts and card playing on the beaches. Overall, we really enjoyed it and would come back, but my kids like to go to different places. Thank you and also Thank you to Best Day Travel.

This hotel is a 3 Star hotel with 5 Star service for the most part.
I recently went to this Resort for nine days. We were welcomed with cold towels which was great. The front desk was fast and courteous. The only thing I didn't appreciate at check in is that I had a surprise Bday cake arranged for my boyfriend and the front desk asked for a credit card for payment right in front of him knowing it was a secret. It could have been handled more discreetly but I can't blame the staff. She was just following her protocol for things but I think it could have been done at a later time and not when the person being surprised is present.

Our room was very nice. Great bed and a double sink bathroom. We were upgraded to a better room upon our arrival. We did not have to wait for a room either.

The food was really good. The only restaurant that needs help is the sushi bar. That is not sushi. They used lox for Salmon rolls.

All the other restaurants were really good especially the Seaside Grill. Fresh Fish every single day.

The entertainment was hit or miss. Great fire show, boring Carribean Show.

I feel like this resort is more catered for children. THERE WERE A LOT OF CHILDREN. If you don't like being around kids, DO NOT COME HERE. If it was an Adults only resort I think I would have loved it. The pool was nice when the kids were not there, same can be said for the beach.

Special mention to great staff there:
Jorge and Rogelio (managers at the restaurants)
Armando, Guadalupe, Juan, Karlos, Sustero, (wait staff and bartenders)
Victor, Ingrid, Ileana (Entertainment Staff)

Juan went above and beyond to make sure we had hot coffee and that all our seating arrangement needs were met every single day! Thank you Juan. Best of all out of all the people staying there he remembered exactly how we like our coffee!

The best staff there was Yolanda, our house cleaning service employee. She cleaned the room from top to bottom every single day and in the evenings she would come by and drop off extra towels for us, EVERY SINGLE NIGHT.

The service there is impeccable and I really think that is what they strive for the most. Yeah the place is a little dated but its to be expected. Nothing stays new forever. If you want to be treated well and have children I think you would enjoy this resort.

Our family has been going to Puerto Aventuras for over 10 years. We usually stay in a condo, but this year we stayed at the Dreams and I am glad we did. I love the condo we usually rent, but the view from our fifth floor hotel suite was perfect! If you have never been to the Cancun, Mexico area I highly recommend you head this way instead. Puerto Avenuras is centrally located. Near the Playa Del Carmen area and stone throw from Tulum and all of its secluded beaches.

Hello,
First of all, I am in the hotel industry and I have traveled all over. I am writing this review not to rent or rave but to inform fellow travelers. I have no financial interest in this property or Tripadvisor, so i will be very fair.

I stayed here on August 2011 and just like any other, this hotel has the good, the bad and the ugly. But, to its fairness, it is mostly good and I would recommend this hotel to a friend. Families or couples would be fine, singles, very low chances of meeting someone here...

The rooms: Fairly large, well maintained, small work desk but nice mattresses. bathrooms are nice and clean and well maintained. Lighting is poor if you want to read in bed so bring a flashlight if you are a reader. All rooms have balconies that face either the marina or the sea and they are nice and open. Floors are marble tiled - no carpets. The ac is powerful enough to cool the room even in August heat, but the A/C does not have a dehumidfy function so room and the clothes feeling a bit damp. But, I assure you it is not a big deal. They just feel a bit damp. I have allergies and asthma but it did not bother me one bit.

Public areas: Great! Pools, lobby, Gym, La tienda, all good. Two separate pools- one is adults only, but seriously, how can you skip all the kids' laughters and jump to the other side??? The pool in the ocean side - family pool- has many broken tiles at the bottom. this seems to be a chronic problem, and the management needs to address it sooner rather than later. I would say it is safe for the most part but if you are playing volleyball in the pool or something, you may cut your foot as a result of your vigorous activity. Clean pools, clean public spaces.

Entertainment: I would rate this 5 stars. The hotel has nice entertainment in a non-invasive manner. All entertainment was top notch and interesting. Make sure to attend the theater every night it has a show, it is worth it1

Food: Even though the hotel tries hard, the food continues to be mediocre. it has several restaurants and bars and it has a no reservation system. so, if you go to a restaurant and they do not have a table for you, they list your name and give you a very accurate wait time and they seat you when you return.

Best restaurant was El Patio Mexican. Both decor and food was excellent. Service is great in all restaurants. El Patio had a duck wrap and great soups, as well as killer desserts. Order all three desserts and you will eat them all, I assure you. ---Portofino Italian seems nice and has excellent service with a supplemental wine list however the food was just okay even though the presentation was excellent. The mussels tasted like they were never rinsed of their salt water, the risotto side was cold, and the tiramisu tasted like nescafe... what a shame in such amazing setting....--- the world restaurant, the only buffet here had nice choices but mexican foods are the safest bets. skip the dessert table since it is not worth wasting your calories.Red meats are dreadful everywhere but especially here. BUT, this is the venue for breakfast which is a nice variety of foods and it has two hot stations with omelettes etc. Good breakfast.-- Seaside grill is busy and slow but nice. The kings of the menu are spring rolls with cabbage, grilled fish and cesar salad if you are a cs fan. do not order pizza, i repeat do not order pizza... and do not order pizzas here . not good. don't.---- Sushi bar has cream cheese in the rolls, as an apparent fusion touch. not bad, not great, but the setting is very nice and feels like a separate place from the hotel, so go for it once and consider it appetizer.-- the hotel has a room service service which is nice, but it is slow. the order takers speak good english which is a plus.--- oceana adults only is on the marina side, quiet, great service and medium to good seafood. forget the desserts...

The staff is friendly and helpful. they listen and try. Thanks for that to all the staff.

Housekeeping department is excellent with two services a day- cleaning and turndown in pm. they also check on you at 6 pm, which is "beach return" time, and distribute extra towels shampoo etc when you need them most. Nice touch.

The beach is small but excellent, with plenty of lounges, towel stations, waiter service and cabanas with king beds just to watch the ocean. there also is a natural rock pool they carved into the rocks in the ocean which small kids can snorkel and see the fish- many of them. very nice...

All bars are great, the ones by the beach are more adult oriented and they are staffed great. all good for hydration purposes...

hotel is small, especially great if you hate the beach shuttle thing. it's all there. lobby, pool ,beach , boom... Great snorkeling before you are knee deep. the hotel has a great dive shop and it has the lowest prices i have seen in a very, very long time. great crew...

free snorkels, kayaks etc. they won't let you sail alone so try to book it before noon to sail with your significant other (and the very nice dude who is driving :)

kids club had positive feedback from our friends, but we did not use it. it looked good and safe and fun but my kiddo was playing volleyball in the pool all day...cool kid, huh?

Nightlife: great karaoke parties, fire and water shows on the beach almost every night. beach movie every night !!!!

internet signal is weak above 5th fl rooms, laptops ok, but iphones go in and out of network. lobby areas have good signal.

the bad: if you have a room near the elevators, and go to bed early, you tend to hear the people returning to their rooms if they are loud. we had a group of people on our floor that partied and returned late and we were awakened very night so we finally had to change rooms. nice folks having fun, but not on our schedule. if you pick a room far from the elevator, you walk of course, but even the farthest is not too bad. nothing like some of the big resorts you find in mexico.

The ugly:Not just here, bull all over Mexico, the hotels are trying to sign you up for timeshares and loyalty programs. ironically, the Dreams group has great properties and a nice program, but the people who market them are working for incentive and they act very sketchy. So, a good product is ransom in the hands of an almost zealous employees. bad taste.
DO NOT bother to stop at the vip services to listen to their bs. do not talk to anyone at the airport under any circumstances. even the people who are federal employees are hunters and they are trying to sign people up under the disguise of giving info. they sound like they will provide maps etc and inform you that as a tourist you should not pay more than certain amount for tours etc, but then voila! they will pull out a secret receipt book and mention this so and so hotel company has a 25th year celebration and for 40 bucks a person, you can go on 3 tours plus food , transfers... do not believe them. just keep walking. outside, you will have your tour operator waiting for you. individuals can take buses or taxis safely.

Last but not least, Tulum is a 40 min local bus ride from here. nice, little town, archaeological sites with a tiny beach. not great but exciting considering it was inhabited when the spaniards arrived in the 1500s... maybe a half day trip. bring water and sunlotion!

thanks and if you like my review please click the helpful button above :)

This is a smaller Dreams than the one in Tulum, which makes it very nice. The food is fabulous and they have an adult only pool as well as an adult only resturant. The Explorers Club for kids is just as good as the Dreams in Tulum so with the adult only features you can enjoy time with your kids and time away from yours and everybody elses kids.
