The property is beautifully appointed and I would have rated it as excellent were it not for the comfort level. The beds and pillows are on the extreme "firm" side and my older body needs something offering more plush bedding and pillows. To be honest however, my 20 something children also found the beds hard so it may not be just my aging body. Woke up with a backache every day. The Jacuzzi helped however. There were some nice surprises however. They do supply beach towels which was great and the maid service was fantastic. We were out and about every day and needed the beach towels which became apparent to the staff and we were supplied with some extras which was GREATLY appreciated. They even washed the glasses that we used (didn't cook at all or we would have used the dishwasher). If you rent the property I would suggest you arrive before the office closes which is at 5pm or you will have a very difficult time finding the room. The key is taped to the office door however there is no map of the property showing where your room is and had it not been for running into a staff member who was leaving we probably would never have found it as the lighting of the property is very dark plus the light outside of our room had burned out and it was COMPLETELY dark. This was fixed immediately when we reported it however. The wifi is weak which the office staff knew and gave us an Ethernet cable. Unfortunately the only port I could find was behind the rather large TV in the living room and since the cord was short, I put my laptop on the TV stand SO I would recommend if you rent that you bring a LONG Ethernet cord. The property is on the second level and the stairs are on the steep side without hand rail so if you are on the older side (as I am) you may want to reconsider as it was a bit of a challenge.
Puerto Aventuras is a completely gated area however why I will never know as they do not ask for ID and the area is open to the general public for the attractions within the complex. It is like gating off a portion of St Petersburg beach without necessity as it really is open to anyone.
We enjoyed dining at several of the eateries (there are really quite a few restaurants with live entertainment) and had the added pleasure of watching the dolphins as the pool where they are kept for the "Swim with the dolphins" attraction is directly across from the dining areas. Quite fun to see them jumping!
It would have been helpful to have an informational sheet supplied by the owner or property management advising the security code for WIFI and also some suggestions for purchasing groceries, dining, nearby beach info, etc. There is not a formal concierge in the manner of major hotel properties. You can ask the office management staff questions but it is not like a concierge that supplies recommendations or have any great knowledge of what might be available. I asked if there were changing rooms at Akumal beach for example, and they responded that they thought there SHOULD be as there were lots of restaurants in the area. Not really the kind of info a concierge would provide. Not to say they were not helpful but just not extremely knowledgeable. I believe most guests kind of have things figured out as they are residents. The office hours are 8am to 5pm and if you need assistance during those hours you are in luck. We were gone for the better part of everyday and aside from the initial check in (which we did the day following our arrival due to arriving after 5pm) and asking our question about Akumal, we didn't interact with the staff.
Overall the property was located in a great area, beautiful and aside from the steep hike up to the room and the bed quality it is a great place to stay.
