We visited dolphin discovery on 17th August and did the royal swim with sting ray and nurse shark fantasy snorkel.
We booked in a thomson store in the uk through attraction world. We were picked up from our hotel (tips for driver not included in transfer price like everywhere in Mexico). On arrival we were given a warm welcome with clear instructions as to where to get changed, leave our belongings in the free lockers and were given a ticket saying what time we would be picked up afterwards. We went to the waiting area and were given life jackets. We were then given instructions as to hand positioning to signal the dolphins etc and we were told what exactly each signal would give us. We did the kiss (cheek and mouth), dance and hand touch on the pontoon and the hug, dorsal fin pull and foot push in the water. Our photographer was elfan (sorry if wrong) and our trainers were both called Eduardo. Now the details have been given I will explain the experience itself. We were given plenty of time to familiarise ourselves with the dolphins as they swam up to us and we stroked them etc, the dolphins are very well looked after and you can tell they are happy. For the people who have moaned and said that the water is disgusting, it is a marina connected to the sea (a dolphin's natural habitat) if you wanted crystal clear blue water go to a place that cruelly gets dolphins swimming in pools. The water was sea water so yes, there was seaweed/algae and fish in there so it smelt a bit but who cares!? The experience was amazing! The foot push and dorsal fin pull are incredible and so exhilarating, you feel so unbelievably close to the dolphins, we were in a group of 8 people and we were all included at all points and even when some were swimming out to get ready for the foot push etc, the rest on the pontoons got to interact with the dolphins and learn about them (their tails are heavy!).
After the dolphin swim we were taken to the area with the sharks and stingrays. All of them stayed away (the sharks stayed on the bottom and the stingrays remained low so you couldn't touch them). This was not a patch on the dolphin swim but it didn't take away from the experience. Overall we were with the dolphins for around an hour non-stop and we were with the sharks and sting rays for about 15 minutes.
The photograph prices we were dreading but our photographer gave us a deal where we got a DVD of all 76 of our photos (2 of us) and 2 print outs for 1300 pesos which is about £65 so nowhere near the £100 other reviews had led us to believe, the photos are of a very high standard and I will treasure them forever as they capture a dream I have had since I was little. Lunch was included in our package and it was enough for what we needed. Dolphin discovery was amazing and I would recommend it without hesitation!
