Like the previous reviewer we had originally been booked into the Caribe but due to the refurbishment not being completed we were moved to the Colonial - however that is where the similarities in our reviews ends.
We have just returned from an amazing holiday - the resort is spectacular! The staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful thoughout our stay. The majority of staff especially those in the bars, restuarants and in reception spoke and understood English well.
The beach and the vast gardens were beautiful and very well maintained. The complex is very large comprising of 5 interconnecting hotels which prior to our visit was a worry but we found the resort to be very user friendly and although the resort was very busy it did not appear overcrowded during our visit possibly because of its design and size. There were more than ample sunbeds at all the pools and on the beach and it was easy to find one either in the sun or shade whenever you required one.
The food was excellent, catering for all tastes. The buffets were outstanding - steaks, chicken, fish and pizza and pasta cooked freshly in front of you as well as a good selection of prepared food. The salad bar and the fresh fruit bar were extensive and always fresh and crisp.
The breakfast buffet was as good as we had had anywhere. As well as the buffets there was also a selection of a la carte restuarants you were given cards to book for during your visit. We visited the Seafood Restuarant and the Santa Fe Steak Restuarant during out stay and enjoyed both very much. The food was excellent, the presentation beautiful and the service very good.
The rooms are large and light and the bathroom had both a bath and shower which we appreciated. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard every day. There was a mini bar in the room containing soft drinks, beers and water which was refilled daily at no extra cost,
There were activities to take part in throughout the day as well as a theatre show at 9.30pm and a Disco at 11.30 pm if you had the energy. There was a shopping plaza in the centre of the resort as well as a selection of shops in each of the hotels. The hotel runs a shuttle around the various hotels in the resort enabling you to easily access facilities in any of the hotels.
The only thing we resented was that the hotel charged heavily for the use of WiFi unless you had upgraded to Premium on your arrival. A small grumble in an otherwise very generous "All Inclusive" package.
We enjoyed a wonderful holiday at this resort - far exceeding our expectations and will certainly be returning again in the not so distant future.
